Kiriwar tilted his head, trying to keep from gushing out too much, but there was no way he could really resist Nandeli. "He's lovely. Very pretty, to be truthful, and I think that things went poorly because, yes, I was oogling him a little," he admitted, covering his face with one hand for a moment, before laughing sheepishly. "It's a shame I lost my temper with him.

When Nandeli began to speak of her life, talking about how she grew up in the hold and had no siblings, the Vintner gave her his complete attention, blinking slowly as he listened and nodding. "Ah, I understand. My Ma and Da married young, because of me," he said, grinning crookedly. "But they've stayed together and have three boys now -- for all I know, there could be more on the way, which would be frightening, to be honest, because that would put twelve years between the youngest and those upcoming." He paused, then laughed, shaking his head. "But that's all speculation."

"Tumbling quite often, though not here yet," said Kiriwar, flashing a sheepish grin. But his expression sobered when he was lightly scolded for his word choice, and he nodded slightly. "Ah, forgive me, Missus Nandeli," he said, grabbing her hand and pressing a playful kiss to the back of it. "And you think so?"

"Aaaaah. Don't worry Kiriwar, I understand your predicament completely. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. Eventually he'll come to his senses and realize what he's giving up by not being friends with you. You'll win him over, one dimple and all!" She flashed him a mega-watt grin, which was supposed to be inspiring. Truthfully, Nandeli did hope they got to be friends. Enemies to friends to lovers was like something out of a Harper's tale but it was so much fun to see in real life. She would be watching the pair of them expectantly in the near future.

She nodded at his speculations about his family, cataloguing the information with the rest. Family situations were always a good indicator of how relationships would go. Take C'ren, for example. With an older brother complex and the need to appease his cothold family he most certainly had reason to be sleeping with two girls! It was all how you looked at things.

Nan giggled at his kiss, batting her eyelashes playfully at him. "You are forgiven, good sir. And I think you would be very good at it, if you set your mind and your dimple to it. Have you ever tried asking people questions about their life?"

Kiriwar gave Nandeli a thoughtful look, humming quietly. "I hope we end up becoming able to tolerate each other, if not end up being friends. I really wouldn't mind that," he said, chuckling quietly.

When she batted her lashes, he smiled, laughing heartily and gently squeezing her hand, before letting go. "I think I would be happy to try that... And no, not really. When I meet someone, I ask the basic questions, simple questions. Who are you, what did you do before you came here, what sort of dragon do you want to Impress... the usual, you know? But I think it would be interesting to try asking more than that. What you asked me is the usual for you, yes?" he asked, arching an eyebrow and looking curiously. "And do you ask everyone?"

"Well the basic questions are always a good start," Nandeli agreed with a bob of her head. "They're important for really understanding a person, you know? There's lots of information that you can get just by going beyond the basics. For example, say a rider came here from a small cothold. He's got an older brother, some other siblings, but his family probably wanted him to follow in his older brother's footsteps, so to speak. You know the whole marry, have children, that sort of thing. Anyways, say he gets to the Weyr and finds out he's gay. So, you see this rider being cross with everyone, and you think to yourself 'wow, his green must be ready to Rise' but in reality he just has a big brother complex!" She finished with a triumphant grin. Now if only what she was saying had actually been true.

At his questioning of her own strategy she simply shrugged. "It depends on the person really. You were looking happy and just wandering over so I can ask you the basics and some to gauge your reaction. If you seem willing to talk, then I can ask more. If you're the sullen type, I might not be able to get as many answers out of you. But if, for example, you were sitting in the corner pouting I might have taken a completely different approach. It's all about technique, really, but if you like talking to people then it should be easy. You like talking to people, right?"

Kiriwar listened intently to what Nandeli had to said, before laughing at her example, shaking his head a little. "What an interesting idea... There's a lot you must be able to gather, just by basically asking about family situations. Was there anything you inferred about me, with my answers about my family?" he asked curiously, leaning a touch closer and raising his eyebrows. He could only imagine what people could come up with about him -- he had his issues and his family had caused a fair few of them, but he really could never be sure about how obvious those issues would be to others, whether they were close to him or not.

"I love talking to people," the Vintner answered honestly, smiling broadly and sitting back a little. "Absolutely love it. But I tend to have a very... straight-forward approach when it comes to talking to people. I just walk up and say hello, and launch into conversation, so I could probably do to learn some decent approaches and techniques of speaking when it comes to different types of people."

Nandeli's grinned impishly at his question. "If I told you it would ruin the fun! Besides, it's nothing that you couldn't figure out on your own. You just have to consider the dynamics of your family, the pressures on you are the eldest son for example, and how that might affect the way you deal with other people or your own sexuality. There are other things too, but that's what it all really boils down to. I mean some people might think that because you're from the Hold you like your wherry a certain way but I don't bother with those kinds of things. Not unless the infer something else."

"It's good you like talking to people," she continued, moving effortlessly from one topic to the next. "And straight-forward it the best way to go! I mean you can always try the pleasantries but sometimes they aren't necessary, you know? Just remember to always make them introduce themselves. Names are very important. But, if you don't get their name, then remembering their face is good enough."

A voice calling her name made her look up, spotting one of the kitchen girls waving hastily at her. Nandeli's grin turned sheepish as she turned back to Kiriwar. "I'm afraid I'm late for kitchen duty, but it was very nice chatting with you! I wish you the best of luck!" She hopped to her feet and curtsied to him, before dashing off to the kitchen. One down, seventy or so to go!

Kiriwar nodded in understanding with what he was being told, smiling crookedly at Nandeli. But when there was the sound of her name, he looked up as well, blinking a few times at the kitchen girl. "Ah, right! I've kept you too long. It was wonderful talking to you, and I'll talk to you later!" he said, grinning happily as she left.
