I've seen things said like this: "These kinds of items don't us them a lot of revenue, so we're not going to put much effort into creating many."
*cough* Inconsiderate cash whores *cough* stare

Seriously? They're going to spend the rest of our lives devoting all their effor to EIs not everyone wants? That should be posted in the thread about gaia being too concerned with profit.

It's probably also worth pointing out that, at this point, the Wingding is the ONLY EI still in the Cash Shop for less than $4.99. Are the days of the $2.99 EIs over? (Probably. Hey, if you can milk your customers for an extra $2 a shot, why not? I wouldn't be surprised if those $4.99s are phased out in favor of more $7.49s soon, too...)

First off: I was referring to the 45 GC items and what-not like the dashing gentleman's sash, etc.

Secondly, I made a *tiny* edit to that post, as I made a little typo. ^^;;
PostPosted: Tue Apr 07, 2009 7:47 pm

I saw, I figured something like "give" was in there somewhere.

And... well... if Gaia's not going to do anything but CS updates for the rest of their existence I'd like to at least see some non-EI items in there. I like the bridal skirt, isn't it pretty? Not only is it pretty, but it's affordable through the MP. They take items out of the CS but they aren't adding new ones (aside from the occasional seasonal/holiday items, but I don't think those should count.)

How long has it been since the CS had a regular item update? Lately it's all EIs and the occasional holiday themed items. I refuse to ever buy an EI with real money but I might be willing to invest in some GC for regular items like the dashing gentleman or bridal sets.

I've seen things said like this: "These kinds of items don't get us a lot of revenue, so we're not going to put much effort into creating many."
*cough* Inconsiderate cash whores *cough* stare

xDDD That statement was about gold shop items, right? /joke

That's pathetic, though.

If the items didn't generate very much revenue, it's because most of the items have been lackluster and not requested items. Items from the RIGs are wanted badly - they make sure of this. Items like the Panda Slippers, the NPC and Admin plushies, the cat ears, etc. All of these items would have sold very well if released straight to the cash shop at agreeable prices.

Instead, they updated the cash shop with items like the Dashing Gentleman set, the Wedding set, and the miscellaneous other things like birthday crowns (not everyone likes their birthstone) and holiday specific items (which is bullshit if they say that those don't sell well, because the Sexy Present did really well from what I saw).

Instead of ripping us off with these RIGs (Random Item Generators for those that might not get it) they should just put those items straight into the cash shop at agreeable prices. It's fair, and we all win. This will reduce the strain on the gold economy, the strain on users' wallets, encourage cash/cash card sales, make users happier and fell less like Gaia is a fat cat corporate, greedy b*****d milking us dry, and make non cash users be able to get the items as well; the items will be much less rare and difficult to get, thus much cheaper in the MP.
I'm very confident that selling the items in this way as opposed to through RIGs will see a very nice profit margin because of the factors listed above.

But what do I know? I'm just a user. ;3

Ummm... [ .NK. ]? Would you move these posts to the cash shop section so they're on topic? ^^;;

I completely agree with everything NK just said! heart

And yeah, I realized after I posted that maybe I should move it to the other thread. Sorries.

Back on topic: Can we get a few statistics about how often EIs have been released and compare it to the recent rate. If we're going to complain about too many too quickly I want it to be accurate. And even if not, as a personal thing I'd like replacement EIs not to be introduced until AFTER the previous EI has finished. Preferably after the old one left the CS even, though that's very very unlikely. I don't see why we need more than 5 EIs in the midst of evolving, let alone the 10 we now have.

Oh, I forgot to say:
@ [ .NK. ] : Hilarious irony is hilarious. lol
But it's also very, very, sadly true.

@Nanenna: Yeah, I'd like that as well. It seemed MUCH less intrusive last year than it is today. :[

I dunno. I'm not so sure there are too many business savvy people in Gaia's management. And a lot of us are led to assume that most of the minds behind it are young. Or, perhaps it's that they DO know what they are doing, it's just that they're taking us for suckers, and a lot of gaians (with money to burn, and even those with barely any) buy into it each and every time.

EIs though, there are so many evolving at one time, that, I'm sure that the people that CAN afford what they want have trouble keeping up with them all. It may very well be that the different artists (and aren't some artists doing two or more EIs at once right now?) are even having a hard time keeping up with the demands of the users and the people that they work for, because, I would suppose the EIs work on a deadline type of pattern, and it SEEMS to be demanding. Which is why I'd guess the quality of each EI at any given stage varies sometimes, or even outright through the whole process of its evolution.

And can somebody tell me just how popular the wingdings were because of price alone compared to the $4-7 EIs? And what makes them think that other EIs couldn't be just at that price as others?
EIs though, aren't as bad as RIGs. Which I haven't even touched because I hate gambling to begin with.

sorry if this is making no sense or being repetitive. D:

Wingding wasn't very popular because for many, staff ******** it up. I believe staff did that on purpose, as a sort of "Yeah, if we show them that no one will like a cheaper EI as much as an expensive one, they'll hush up about it." Then again, I grew up with a dad who's more paranoid than...than...a very paranoid person.

1. The 3rd stage female version would be used more if the chest wasn't so lopsided, but they never decided to fix that.
1a. The big breasts in general made the flat symbols look awkward on a curvy shirt.

2. They never completely unisexed the item, which killed it for the users of female avis, who wanted muscles, and male avis, who wanted big breasts.

3. They took something simple and awesome and focused on making it "pervert" friendly. While that was alright, it really killed the item. There were a lot of users who wanted simple clothing with a few symbols on them and Gaia's artists couldn't even do that right.

So we can't really calculate whether or not users liked Wingding or like cheap well done EIs over expensive well done EIs overall using Wingding as an example. I highly doubt Gaia'll come out with another cheap EI anytime soon.

However, you can get a very rough estimate by browsing forums and seeing how many individual people are wearing that particular item at the time. For example, from my experience browsing forums, the current EIs "Diapered Egg", "Yemeya's Pearl" and "Nartian Rock" aren't very popular; they're not worn nearly as much as the current EIs "Gogh Reed", "Fremere's Guard", "Nano-C" etc.

Also, I believe it was a journal post of the creator of the Gimpi who had said, "The price of the item determines the number of poses, which is why Gimpi doesn't have more poses." I don't know why it's done like this. With most $5 to $10 EIs you need 4 of them if you want them to match and not look halfway to stupid. So no matter the deal you get with the "price per pose" and including the poses that overlap and unequip each other and whatnot, there's no deal with the item overall since you still need to pick up 3 more anyway.

Since EI day has come around, what do you think of the evolutions?

I love the final armor set of the Infernal Spirit (although the final update had barely anything else... >>;; )

I kinda hate the evolution for Nano-C, it seems to be just a fangasm item now.. >[

The Reve *finally* evolved in a bizarre way.....

And, as you guess, I'll probably explode over the next few posts about the Diapered Egg. But I'll leave that to another post.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 10, 2009 6:53 pm

Note to self: When Flying Dicks says to sell something, ********' sell it. Diapered Egg was horrible! I think I like that chocolate cash shop bunny rabbit more than the current evolution. It's like we got a remake of a EI within an EI evolution. I was not impressed. Why are the cheaper EIs getting the short ends of the stick? sad

I think I realized why the gold shops are suffering. They're putting all their clothing ideas into the EIs. *points to Reve* It's why I can't stand Pepper Tea's work. Why anyone wants to pay cash for gold shop quality clothing is beyond me! *headdesk* I think EIs and cash shop items should be limited to accessories and the gold shop for the clothing. Nicolae's shop would make a great store for armor and such. *stomps off*

I absolutely agree with you on this one about clothing, Phoenix.
Do they have ANY IDEA how many shirts/undergarments I could buy IN REAL LIFE for 4-7 bucks???
PostPosted: Fri Apr 10, 2009 10:52 pm

I don't know if it's just me, when I see EI the first thing that comes to my head is NOT clothing no matter the style. I don't think of shirts, ties, shoes, fancy puffy pants, cloaks, hoodies, shirts that give me big boobs or pants that give me a canteloupe for an a**. I think of accessories. EIs shouldn't be the basis for anyone's outfit. You should NOT need like 6 of them to make an outfit because the creator decided to make the majority of clothing. Put that clothing in the gold shops staff! scream
