Varun scowled and snorted, shaking his head. "No. Do not understand." He pointed at Kinsey, yes, he had seen her lurking over young, and shook his head again. She and Phiel really liked each other, he had seen it, and they didn't try to eat each other. They just talked. "No eat Phi. Words, words words." The Frei looked mildly impressed with himself, that was the most he'd ever said at once. But it didn't solve his problem.
Riffling through the large assortment of glossy photos, Varun came across more tabloids, quite a few with people kissing. No matter how many photos he looked at, it still seemed kind of silly to him. "Whatfor," he sighed, exasperated. "Talking...uhhhh..." Varun snapped his jaw shut, suddenly realizing he didn't know how to describe his thoughts on the matter. Glancing up at Rivener, he gave a pout and a frown, folding his arms over his chest. "More words," he sighed, sullen.
Kinsey bit back a nervous laugh. "Oh, nonono. His soul is....the leviathan. You know, giant sea monster? We found it on Alex's beach, so, after failing to get it back into the water I......captured his soul," Kinsey explained, feeling sillier by the moment. "I keep wondering if that's going to come back to bite me..."

Rivener figured that Phi is a person, and Varun was equating "kissing" to "eating". It had taken the Scorpion quite a few moments of pondering to come up with this conclusion, and he then realized that "more words" meant "explain more". He had to think of a way to explain this. Hm.
"Uhm, let's see... Ah, okay. Kissing is NOT trying to eat someone. It's just pressing lips, not chewing or trying to eat at all. It's just... contact. Between people who like each other very very much, MORE than friends. Understand? Like, hmm..." Ah well, Riv didn't know what else to say so he did the best thing he could think of without crossing that line. The Sigel picked up one of Varun's hands lightly and brought it to his lips slowly, careful not to scare the colorful frei, and here Riv pressed his lips in a light kiss. "See? Not eat. Kiss! Only they do it on lips, that's for Very Very Very Liking someone. Understand?"
Aphismet blinked. "Wow, a leviathan? Holy crap. Yeah, I hope that doesn't come back to bite you too. He doesn't look like he'd very- Ah crap." Aphismet groaned, watching Rivener plant a kiss on Varun's hand. At least it was only the hand. "There he goes." With a sigh, the chef began walking forward, hoping to stop anything before it got too far.

Was that what Phiel was trying to explain to him, then? He and Kinsey were kissing friends? But he hadn't seen them kiss. Thoroughly perplexed by the varying degrees of friends, Varun was slightly startled when Rivener took his hand again. However, nothing bad came of the last time, just a lesson in the strange art of the yoyo, so the Frei settled after a simple flare of his headfins. Of course, he hadn't really expected Rivener to kiss his hand, either.
"....uh. Kiss. On lips. Not a friend. Very very like?" the young raevan rattled back to his teacher, wings flitting once of twice. He still didn't understand the point of such an action. Unless...? "Kiss like words?" It was the only way Varun could rationalize touching someone else like that. It must be words, only with the body and not the voice.
"Um, yep. It was really quite the adventure! He's not too- what?" Kinsey followed his gaze, not sure what to make out of Rivener and Varun. Her Raevan didn't seem to be terribly distressed nor angry, his wings and headfins puffed out when he got upset. "....Rivener does that often?" she inquired, trotting after Aphismet. Well, a kiss on the hand wasn't a big deal, the cop-in-training thought. As long as Varun wasn't freaking out.

"Yes, he does that often. Very very very TOO MUCH often, sorta. Although this time only on a hand, not so bad..." Aphismet sighed, closing the distance between them with a quiet urgency. He didn't want his Sigel setting off a sea monster's temper.
Before Aphismet could get there though, Rivener tilted his head at the other Raevan, trying to piece together the strange talking. This one's way of speaking reminded him very much of Roux's, using certain words to describe other similar things, making strange associations that Rivener had to pick up on quickly... But after a while of thinking, the Scorpion managed to understand.
"Ah! Yes, like words. Kiss is a way of saying "I like you very very very very much." Very good, Varun. Understand, yeah?" Rivener grinned widely, nodding and patting the hand he still held encouragingly.
"Uh, Rivener?" Aphismet asked as he now found himself at his Raevan's side. "Whaaat are you doing?"
"Teaching Varun about kissing," Riv replied casually, like there was nothing wrong with it. "HE asked!"
"Please don't start kissing people again," Aphismet cautioned, earning himself an outraged glare from the Sigel.
"Wh- you make me sound like that's all I do! I wasn't going to, I was just EXPLAINING. God, relax, Aphi." Huffy, Rivener released Varun's hand and crossed his arms, glaring at his guardian.

"Yes, understand! I like words," Varun confided in Rivener, wondering breifly if he'd feel the same way about kisses. But words were very nice, very interesting, and there were so many, he'd never run out! However, the brightly-colored Frei had no time to mull over that idea, Aphismet came rushing over, ruining Varun's conversation. He fell silent, watching the pair with narrowed eyes.
Finally, he spoke, picking up the tabloid to show to Aphismet. "Kissing, not eating," he assured the frazzled man, nodding sagely. Rivener had taught him all sorts of new words today! And he understood kissing now, sort of, but he'd have to ask Kinsey some more about it later.
Kinsey hung behind, rocking on her heels as she watched Varun defend the other Raevan. It was strange, she thought, very strange. Perhaps he wasn't a homebody, he just needed god company to get him going? Time would tell, she supposed.

Rivener motioned towards Varun as though what the Raevan said explained everything, giving Aphismet a very exasperated look. The Scorpion didn't like how his guardian kept interrupting lately, but he supposed since Prajna, the man had been a little bit overly worried. "I didn't DO anything wrong. See? Not eating," he added with a dry smirk, remembering his delicious snack.
Aphi sighed. "Alright, okay. Fine. But, I think I'd like to go home now, Riv. It'll be time to start supper soon, and I bought this nice lamp..." Okay, so maybe it was a shitty excuse, but the chef just wanted to get his Sigel back to regular, familiar grounds. Where he wasn't potentially doing something unspeakable.
Rivener rolled his eyes. "Alright, fine." Turning his attention to Varun, the Scorpion smiled in a friendly way and bowed his head. "It was very nice to meet you, Varun."

Varun's face fell breifly, but he supposed going home wasn't a terrible thing. He had many things to ask Kinsey and, apparently, it was time to start reading, too! "Very nice, yes," he said, nodding back to Rivener as he got ready to leave. That went much better than he had initially thought, perhaps his guardian knew what she was talking about now and again.
He watched Aphismet take Rivener away and glanced back to Kinsey. "Words," he demanded, floating back the way he came. "Umbrella. Words. Phiel, Kinsey, kissing? No? Whatfor?"
Kinsey just stared blankly at the back of Varun's red head as she followed him through the crowds. What the hell did Rivener teach him?
