It can not be! Alright, you guys... *shudders* Not possible. Okay let us get a few thing clear here!
Favorite Author
ROBERT MOTHER FLIPPIN JORDAN
I don't see why none of you have his name up here! He is pretty much the best Fantasy write bar none! I have read many Fantasy books and the Wheel of Time series is a juggernaught in the Fantasy world which can not be beat!
Worse Author
J.R.R. Tolkien
Now! Before you yell at me, let me get this one thing straight! Tolkien is the father of Fantasy in my opinion, but! I absolutely hated everything he wrote, yes! He made Fantasy what it is today, but I found his way of story telling incredibly bland and his characters far too complex for books being rushed like that. So, yes I think Tolkien was an excellent author, but I hated what he wrote.

You're a very brave soul with convincing arguments. I have to admit, the only Tolkin I truly enjoyed reading were The Hobbit and the begining of Fellowship of the Ring. They are awfully ponderous things, and it's pretty much obvious that he was a little...obsessed...with his fantasy world.

I know lol, I have had groups of people who are totally obsessed with Tolkien make threats at me before, I usually just laugh at them and walk off.

I love Meg cabot's Mediator books and her 1-800-Where-R-You books althogh The 2nd is written under the name of jenny Caroll (i not sure I spelled that right...) and tomara Pierce's books becuse they have powerful girl heroiens.
I think Eragon was ok but I liked it better than Eldest
I myself have about 10 books going on in my head all at once but although I started not any of them are really written down but I'm working on...
I hated the prophacy stones.

Description: Though Eragon (its sequel being Eldest) is well written for a 15-year-old, it is not well enough written to be called a "book for the public besides Paolini's family to read." Though the writing gets a bit better in Eldest, it is still not great. And on top of that, you could almost call Eldest a pornography book because there are so many scenes with women undressing for this reason or that reason or no reason. (Ok, so I'm exaggerating a little bit about how many times that happens, but it's still too many times for a book that 8-year-olds are going to read.) Both books are complete rip-offs of Lord of the Rings. In fact, if you take Lord of the Rings, replace the rings with Dragons, add horns to the orcs, and change the characters' names, you've pretty much got Eragon and Eldest.
That is SO not true! And it isn't an 8 year old book... I think that's kind of the point! I loved it and would highly recommend it! Although the main character, Eragon, is stupid and a bit of a perv... I still loved it! The imagery was wonderful and the drama was great and I've read stories by 15 year olds, and they generally suck. This was as good as as many stories I've read, and I read TONS!

Well I have to say that I read Eragon and Eldest and thought them ok.....then I read The fellowship of the ring (still reading it, almost done. sweatdrop ) and I fell in love. Way better than the Eragon and Eldest, you can't even compare the two.

I go through a book Eragon's size every two to three days, which comes to 122 to 182 books per year, not including manga, random comics, my own work, long car trips and my occational three-day-weekend binge reading sessions. Eragon is well written...FOR A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD. But that doesn't mean diddly squat in the REAL publishing world. Maybe if he had kept it for a few years, written the entire trio of books, learned a thing or two about CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and creative plots, it would have been better. But as it is, I read the prologe and the first two chapters and could instantly tell it wasn't worth my time.

Look, for those of you who are upset by what I'm saying, I'm personally sorry that I have offended you and I'm positive that Paolini is a wonderful person. Just not such a great writer yet that he's ready for publishing his work. I've met plenty of people (especially teachers) who are wonderful people, but just aren't meant for their job or aren't quite ready for their job, even if they're getting there. That's the case with Paolini - he's good for his age, but he's not ready for the public business yet. And I know the Inheritance Trilogy may not be origionally intended for 8-year-olds, but I have news for you. It's the kind of book 8-year-olds read or have people read to them! Just like Harry Potter may be written for 10 to 14 year olds, but is read by everybody.

Firstly, everyone has to calm down, you're getting worked over a bunch of paper. I enjoy reading books for 12 year olds, teen agers, even adult books, but that's just me. It's not the author but the reader. Someone can read The Hobbit and think "What a crappy novel" and others read it and think "Wow that was great!" It has nothing to do with the author or their style just the reader. If you read the stories written by the kids in my class you may think "They clearly suck" or you may think "That was really good! I loved that!" I'm pretty sure the point of this topic was to discuss our favorite and least favorite authors and books, and not critisize other peoples choices. Just because someone likes a book and you don't doesn;t mean you trash it.
Oh and by the way, reading a prologue and two chapters doesn't work for anything! If you read a book don't trash it until you've read the whole DAMN thing! The book got better over time and many books do!
Everyone needs to settle down and look at why this topic is here, to discuss our favorite and most hated books and authors and NOT trash other peoples choices. I loved the Inheritance series so far (Eragon and Eldest) but hated the Wheel of Time series. Everyone here (Or mostly everyone) needs to accept people are all different. And you can't trash what someone else likes just because you don't!

I'm the same way... I read the Harry Potter series (what has come out) in less than a week! Of course I've read them multiple times... but still... Everyone reads at least one book that quick... it just depends on what you enjoy...

((This is my first post as part of this guild lol.))
I must say that my two favorite authors are Terry Goodkind, Author of the "Sword of Truth" saga, and Robert Jordan, from the "Wheel of Time" saga... I am waited impatiently for the last book of The wheel of time to come out.. and have been impatiently waiting for the next "Sword of Truth" novel to come out... I am in complet agreeance with Sol Masecri that Robert Jordan is an extremly good Novelist.

(sigh) The point is, Eragon was the kind of book where you could tell *instantly* the the writer's style wasn't refined yet. You know why it got better as the novel went on? Because he grew up and didn't bother to go back over the book after he finished it. A beginer's mistake. Besides, a book needs to pull the reader into its world from the begining. At the most, it should take you a prolouge and a chapter to understand what the story is going to be about, even if that's only how it is until the first plot twist. But when the author goes through 40 pages that you have to prop your eyelids up with toothpicks to get through, the only time you continue reading is if it's required for school. I like to *enjoy* my pleasure-reading, thank you.

The book got better over time and many books do! I've only done that with one book in my life (save when I was very little) and that was the book that gave me a headache. (not Eragon. Eragon isn't that bad.) Trust me, it has to be a pretty bad book to give me a headache, epecially if I get a headache from it before I even finish the first chapter. And I'll often read almost anything just for the sake of reading and having something to do when I'm bored. Anyway... I have nothing against anybody who likes Eragon/Eldest. If you're not as picky as me (e.g. uber extremely mega non picky), so be it. If only two people in the entire world realize that a guy could use some touching up on his publicly distributed writing, that's great for the world, if a bit difficult for the ones who want well written, non-ripoff books. The problem with those books is that, since nobody can seem to think up of one good original idea for anything besides rps, they tend to have a really horrible plot and story. Eragon can be a bit engaging at some points. I'll give it that. And stop ranting.
