I can't stand when a fanfiction author makes any of the trio (or anyone for that matter) goth/emo. Honestly, it's completely out of character; Hermione's not going to go away one summer, come back to Hogwarts, and decide she wants to be goth and completely ignore school! *eyeroll* Seriously, people need to pay attention to the goals and personality of the characters.

I have to agree, I hate it when Peter is completely ignored in Marauder's Era, as well. It bothers the hell out of me. >__<

I hate...

poorly written fanfics with made up characters. You know, the ones where the author has just added a character out of nowhere and writes it like they've been in the story the whole time without telling a bit of a backstory to insert them? I remember one I read on quizilla.com, Meetings in the Tower. Beautiful Draco romance, totally made sense. The girl in the story was a made up character named Anna Darcy, and the story started in the 6th year. The writer did a summary of the first 5 books with Anna included as though she had always been a character, but she didn't change a single detail of the original stories unless she had to so that her character would be included. It. Was. Amazing. If you aren't prepared to give your character a background so that their inclusion in the story makes sense, don't bother to write it. Seriously.

I also hate OOC. OOC only works whenever the change in the character is developed. If you just start writing with Draco as a good guy, then you need to keep it to yourself. Again, Meetings in the Tower. Draco's change from being a Slytherin jerk to a nice guy is developed gradually over the course of the story, and it made sense. And he wasn't perfect. He messed up and called a kid a mudblood in front of Anna, and she got mad, and then the next few installments, they weren't talking. He made it up to her, but he had to work at it. He didn't just say 'I'm sorry' and then it was all better.

I basically want fanfiction to make sense. If it makes sense, I will generally enjoy it.

I do agree with people who hate any change in a character's appearance. So annoying. And all of the girls who have seen the movies and not read the books annoy me the most, because they always write Harry as having blue eyes.

I too have problems with pairings that just don't make sense, for ones like Draco and Hermione, or Draco and Ginny I want the explination as to how that works to be good enough to stop me from going, "um, no. Next fic please." in the actual fic. I've found a few, but really no one does - however the Ginny/Draco pairing is fun for me when it comes to fanart. They are just cute as characters to put in a picture together. And frankly I can't support Ginny/Harry no matter how cannon that pairing is. The more I watch and read, the more I hate it.

I do not like it when Snape is paired with anyone he teaches, or Lucius Malfoy for that matter.

People who forget that Filch is a Squib, and shouldn't use a wand in their fics really need a lesson in the magic of the series.
People who forget that Hufflepuffs are in the school too, and if Tonks came from that house, they aren't all lossers.

Peter should not be forgotten during the Marauder Era, he should be seen and not heard is how I address that issue most of the time, but I'm working at it myself to include him more in my own fanfiction, but to just leave him out altogether makes me question whether or not people actually understand the dynamic of the Maruader's and why Rowling even thought to include such a background for her series. I mean, I don't see people writing Voldemort out of the series - and certainly it is easier to like Wormtail than it is to like Voldemort.

I have to agree on the pairings that don't make sense...although, I have written and read a few weird pairings (LupinxHermione, HarryxDraco, HarryxLuna...etc). But I mean...LuciusxVoldemort?! SnapexLupin?! And my absolute least favorite...DracoxHermione scream scream .

I do like to mix things up a little, like making OOC characters and stuff, but I understand what you're all saying about keeping it realistic, but sometimes it is fun to just completely mess it up. Just my own opinion.

Non-cannon parirings and OOC only bothers me when the author stars writing it and doesn't even try to make it make sense. I can read almost any fic so long as the writer has bothered to give it some thought. I can read any pairing so long as the author develops the relationship. The ones I can't stand are the ones where the author has just started writing and acts like everything makes sense or that what they are writing could totally happen without giving any how or why.
