Apparently Kiarra recognized the stranger... Montgomery relaxed slightly, if the stranger were going to attack, he would have probably done so almost immediately, before Kiarra came out close enough for pack tactics.
Not really understanding the dynamic in the conversation, picking up on only the basics of the whole thing, he decided that his best choice would be to simply stand close as support, and let Kiarra sort the issue. He silently moved over slightly to stand with his side against hers, just letting her know that he was there for moral (and physical if needed) support. Kiarra was strong he knew, and this was her sire. That immediately earned the strange male a point in his favor.
