Jacen could only shrug. "But if she's happy here, why does she cry?" He asked, bluntly. "Sometimes she seems so sad.. I wonder if she's going to come home... She never does. I'm not allowed to interfer, or I would... Give that mortal a piece of my mind.."
He paused. "She deserves better."

"Isn't kidnapping interfering?" Kaimi asked gently. "I... think you care about her. You seem like you do. But why can't you just talk to her? Instead of spying in the bushes and stuff?" Maybe it was a boy thing. Boys, Kaimi was discovering, acted weird.

Jacen merely nodded, he couldn't deny it. "I do-- when we were younger, she was a close friend of mine. Before she ran away." He sighed and shook his head in regret.
"If I did that, she'd run from me. It's easier this way."

"Why dont we go back to the house. Together. I'll bet once she sees I'm safe and we tell her all you want to do is talk, she'll be willing to sit down and talk." Kaimi smiled rather shyly at the elf. "I mean, you kicked everybody's butt. It's not like you'd have to worry about getting beaten up or anything."

Jacen shook his head, and looked like he was afraid of something when Kaimi made her suggestion. "I couldn't do that!" He said. "I'd rather go any where--but there." He didn't explain why, just shrugged. "Is there any where you'd like to go?"
He paused, and looked at her. Thali had called her Kaimi, he assumed that was her name. "Kaimi, right?" He asked, with a tilt of his head; silver hair gracefully falling into his face. "I've never been in these parts. Want to show me around?"

The girl narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "I..." want to go home. Although, since she wasn't being kidnapped this could turn into quite a pleasant outing. Although... "I really should let Thali know I'm alright. I'm supposed to be babysitting, you know. And it wouldn't be right for her to worry while you and me run around." She looked around and saw a payphone on the corner. "I'm just going to call her. And then we'll figure out whats going on, okay?"
Walking over to the phone, Kaimi stuck a quarter in and dialed Thali's phone number. Her eyes drifted over to Jacen and she watched him while she waited for an answer.

Jacen shifted uneasily as he watched Kaimi dial what he knew was Thali's phone number. He wasn't worried about what Thali would say--she couldn't hurt him. No, he was worried about what her father would do when he found that he'd been on Gaia. If he ever found his way back to Lynwood, that was.
Thali was quick to pick up the phone, in hopes that it would be Kaimi, announcing that she was safe, or Jacen demanding a ransom for the safe return of the teenager. If it was one of those tele-buy-all-our-junk things, she would tell them-it-whatever it was off. She wasn't in the mood for Gambino hair products.

"Thali? It's Kaimi." The girl said when the phone was answered. From the corner of her eye she watched Jacen shifting nervously at a distance. "Apparently I'm not really kidnapped."

Thali was so surprised at what Kaimi said, she nearly dropped the phone. "Not kidnapped? Kaimi, dear, I saw him take you. What do you mean? Have you escaped? Has he let you go? He got lost, didn't he?" She remembered how Jacen used to get lost just going to the library in the castle. He had no sense of direction.
Jacen felt awkward. He focused on the ground near his feet.

"I'm pretty sure he's lost, yeah. But he said he wasn't really kidnapping me. He said he just wanted to talk. Thali... I think he likes me. Like, like likes me. What do I do?!" Her face was a vibrant crimson as she stuttered out the words in a sort of stage-whisper to make sure Jacen couldn't overhear.

Thali groaned. "Figures." She said, with half a giggle. "Well, I'm not sure about what you can do about it, Kaimi." She said, and paused. She had to know how bad this was. "Is he watching you, and blushing? Or looking down?" She went to explain. "If he's just blushing, it's a crush. If he's looking down.."
She paused to giggle. "He must really like you."

"He's staring at his feet." She was blushing too. Why was she blushing? "How can he like me? We just met and he kind of tried to kidnap me. Plus he beat up Ben. What am I supposed to do? He's kind of nice but what if he's really just scary?"

Thali couldn't resist giggling now. "Have you ever heard of love at first sight?" She asked. "It doesn't matter if you've just met or not." She paused. "I've known Jacen his entire life. I've never known him to be scary, unless Vate was around. Otherwise.. he's pretty sweet.. when he's not beating on Ben."
Jacen shifted uneasily. This was awkward.

"I... well." She wasn't sure what else to say. "I just wanted to let you know that I was okay. And everything." Glancing at Jacen, she smiled a little. "I guess I should probably go. I imagine I'll have to help him find his way home at any rate."

"If he wants to go home." Thali said with another giggle, "I'm glad you're alright. Don't worry about babysitting today, I've got it covered. And Kaimi? Try to have fun." She said, before hanging up.
Jacen smiled at Kaimi, before looking at his feet again. He couldn't bring himself to look at her for more than a moment. One of the reasons being that he kept blushing, and was embarassed.
