Her initial glee at his assessment of her was quickly washed away by his childhood story. And she thought she had it bad, growing up alone and free.
"Wow. Everyone, gone... except you? I'm sorry..." She leaned her neck against his, a gesture meant to comfort. "It must have been rough, actually getting to know your family and then losing them all."
It crossed her mind that she could give Enfys a herd again if he wanted it: not his lost years, but maybe companionship, caring, understanding. Two less lonely Kirin in a wide wide world. But proposing that now, smack after they'd met... might it be too forward of her?
Maybe she could just hang around. Friends first, take it further later. Or sooner than later, and find out even more of where he'd come from. For now, she was happy just to twine necks with him, and wait for a response.

Enfys rested his neck against her, closing his eyes. When he finally spoke, it was softly. "Yeah, but then again, our herd was never the close sort; it was impossible for us to be really very close, but it was better than being all alone." Much better to not discuss kirkani, not unless it was strictly necessary and he had her absolute trust and love. The last thing he wanted was to drive her off in fear and hatred. He wouldn't even let Abhyagni or Tuyet know about this.
He broke into a smile. "But I'm not alone anymore. There are one or two other stallions who wander with me, and I wouldn't really mind if you or anyone else tagged along, if they really wanted to. I just want my herd to be a place for kirin to belong, no matter what." With that, he pulled back his head to look into her deep eyes. "I wouldn't mind if you chose to come with us for any period of time," he said even more softly. Some part of him badly wanted her to come with, but some corner of his mind, the part that always feared he might eventually develop a taste for kirin flesh and blood, didn't want anyone getting too close, in case he wanted to eat them. No, he would NEVER EVER let himself eat anyone, least of all Iris. The kirkani lifestyle had died with his herd, without him ever tasting blood, and he would do everything in his power to keep it that way.

This surprise date could hardly go any better. Iris didn't have much to think of at all - she had just begun to tire of the place, and had been exploring in wider and wider circles from her once-favourite tree. A change would do her good.
"I'll join you... on one condition." A slow smile spread across her face; she was quietly laughing at her own ridiculous request, but knew, deep down, that it was absolutely key if she was to be happy with this travelling band.
"We have to try and keep to places where there's colour. Lots and lots of colour. No marshland. No bland snowy peaks. There's gotta be life, vibrancy, prettiness." She swallowed, wondering if he would laugh at her, too... then decided it didn't matter.
"I mean, I live for colour. Life just won't do without it. When winter hits I just curl up somewhere and spend a lot of time sleeping... or run to warmer places where there's no horrible snow. The lack of colour is just... depressing, you know?"

Enfys just had to laugh. "Of course. I like rainbows, and I kind of like flowers, so snow and swamps don't really suit me, either. I probably won't run off to any places without water, either," he added with a smile. The thought that Iris would go with him, someone that he surprisingly found himself caring a lot for, someone whom he felt he could be fully and unashamedly honest with made him unbelievably happy, and he shifted closer again to continue untangling her mane.

((I'm starting to feel this is one of those dating games. And Enfys is acing this girl. Her heart meter bar is going through the roof. xD))
Happiness. She stood still and arched her neck proudly as he sorted through her mane, unable to do much more without interfering with his work.... then figured she could use her tail to try brushing most of the dirt on his flank and underbelly off. Anyway, she was done with his back, right?
Hopefully he wasn't too tickly.
"So, um... what are the other stallies you travel with like?"

((I'm merely amused at how a stallion this laid-back and reserved can be doing something like that and prove so...fun-loving...and dark. xd ))
Enfys smiled, pausing a moment. "Well, I only travel with one other stallion right now, and sometimes another joins us as well. The one I travel with, Abhyagni, seems to be an orphan. He seems to only see the unhappiness in the world, but I'm hoping that good company and friendship will change that. He wanders with me because he doesn't seem to have roots, and isn't the sort who wants to put down roots anywhere."
He shook his head slightly, to avoid tugging on Iris' mane too much. "The other stallion is Tuyet. He's a fairly polite stallion, laid-back and good-hearted. I don't see much of him, and he may have other plans of where to go with his life." He smiled. "So...do you have any friends? What are they like?"

((And Iris was actually thinking about her past. owo They seem to be bringing out the muted sides of each other. xD)) " Huh," Iris commented, brushing the legs she could reach. " One sounds grumpy and the other sounds a nice-kinda-boring. You sure they won't raise a ruckus if fun-loving me tags along?" She arched an eyebrow and gave him a wry smile. " I'm the kind who will up and chase rainbows, roll over for no reason, tell them strange things like earthworms are delicious and streak through a given herd's territory just for the heck of it. I'm not asking if they'll join in... just whether they could handle it.
And nope, no lasting friends. Unless you count the squirrel family and the crazy owls." (( Crazy Owls ))

Enfys had to laugh about the squirrel family and the crazy owls. "I'm sure they won't mind. Tuyet's not around that often, and Abhyagni needs to get out more amongst other kirin, to learn to see happiness around him, and to see it in a good light."
No point telling her about the kirkani. He occasionally had urges in that direction, very strong urges that drove him to being about to snap shut his mouth on an unsuspecting kirin's flank, but he generally dealt with those times the urges got too strong by being on his own for a bit...which was one of the reasons he'd split off from Abhyagni today. Drat. Now that he thought about it, Iris' scent was driving the inner kirkani mad with hunger and desire, but he couldn't...he just couldn't. No. He would go out tonight, let his urges for Iris' flesh and blood die down to the normal manageable level, and be back by her side by morning. She might be lonely or frightened, but at least he wouldn't try to eat her.

Iris cocked her head when Enfys fell silent, sensing that he was wrapped up in his thoughts about something... but not really sure what. Maybe he wasn't comfortable with what she'd mentioned, even as he said his friends were.
Hn, that didn't make sense. He'd put up with her nonsense so far, no reason for him to back away now.
"Well, I think we're both pretty clean now," she announced cheerfully, hauling herself out of the water.
"Heads up!" she yelled before shaking herself dry vigorously, spraying water everywhere.

Enfys smiled. "I'd say so, too." He laughed as she sprayed water before coming out and shaking himself dry, flinging sparkling water droplets everywhere. "Well, we should probably get going now. We should be able to find Abhyagni soon." Smiling and nudging her gently with his muzzle, he led the way out in the direction he'd come, happy that Iris was coming with him. He'd just have to take extra care with his urges now, but he was sure he could do it. He'd do it for Iris and their children, and their herd.

" Yeah! Best time to meet your chums, since I'm clean and groomed and all... Hey, that was your underlying intention for this whole bath thing, wasn't it? You set me up! You smooth sweet-talking fiend! You irresistably rainbow-hued stud! You..." They made quite the couple, the mare spouting well-meant nonsense and her stallion patiently bearing it, as trotted along to properly meet his friends. The End
