Zapa's regard for her supposed brother was growing with each moment. If he'd made Uddhava happy, kept him safe, then he was fine in her book. "I'd like to stay with you, and get to know Azarax better." The larger lion was a different color, yes, but it was still not the same as Uddhava's.
Still, maybe if he could be happy here, then maybe Uddhava could too. "I think we shouldn't be too sad over Momma...she wouldn't want us to be sad, you know? She loved you, loved us, and when you love someone you want them to be happy."
"Yes, I don't think he believed me at first but..." She held up her paws, showing off the bands she shared with Ripuka. "I guess I looked enough like her that he decided I was telling the truth."

"I'm sure he'd like that." He smiled. "I think maybe he's been apart from his family too long. He needs us." He nodded and gave a small whine, thinking of their mother, long lost to the sands now.
"She loved us all very much. She'd want us to be happy. You're right." He blinked, lookign at Zapaliti's paws. "And she's not gone completely, is she? I mean...she lives in you, in me, in Azarax. She lives in everyone who remembers her."
He swallowed, feeling a flood of emotion fill him. "She's still here." And he touched a paw to his chest - over his heart.

Zapa nodded and rolled to her feet. "We're all together now, so it'll be okay. We'll take care of each other for Momma. I bet she can see us from where she is, and that's why we have to be good and happy. So she knows we're okay." She nosed at her brother, reassuring him and urging him to his feet. "She does. In both our hearts forever. Just like all our siblings, and Papan too. Even if we're apart, we're still together in our hearts."
She nosed him again and looked to where the sun had finally fully set, and the sky was streaked with purples. "We should get back before Azarax worries, I think." She smiled and butted her head against Uddhava's. "I'm so glad we're back together finally."

He nodded, pressing a paw against his heart, feeling the beat of its steady rhythm. He was alive. Alive thanks to his mother and this pride. He had to keep on living and even when it was hard he had to keep smiling.
And now he had his sister here, too.
Things would be okay. They really would.
"Let's go, Zap." He agreed quietly, nudging her gently. And , on quick little paws, he strode across the sand, glancing up briefly to the clouds.
He whispered. "You were right, Mama, everything's going to be okay."
