"Gosh," Leaning forwards, Emi fished around in her bag, before fishing out a carefully folded flier. The work tight journalist kept work and pleasure as close as she could, and luckily for Risa, today this might prove to have a few benefits.

"This could help, if you like," The journalist spoke, offering the flier to Risa.

"I wrote an article on a newly built spa a month or so ago, and they gave me a flier at the time," Emi HAD planned to take Klia with her, however, she would just force her friend to take her along anyway: and force the receptionist to pay full price rather than the fifty percent off advertised on the pamphlet. Of course, she hadn't explained WHY she was writing an article, but - details, details.

"It's fifty percent off if you go by the end of April," Emi noted with a smile.

That was the first objective decision, and soon enough a pack of plain t-shirts were placed into the trolley. A large size of course: if there was one thing Emiko had learned in her time with Klia was that anything too large could always be covered up, but too small was always a tight fit to bear.

Risa was grateful, and showed it with a bright smile. "Thank you!" She said, taking it. "You're a writer too? Maybe I should introduce you to Thali sometime." She paused, considering it. "She's more of a novelist--for children. She likes sticking to fantasy."

Of course, an elf would stick to what she knew. Thali had always been interested in history. Risa paused and added, "I think her husband's a writer as well--for young adults."

"I'm a journalist, I write for the Barton Gazette," She explained proudly. The paper was a very small production, that had somehow found its way onto the shelves for the past twenty years, growing dust with each issue no doubt. It had few subscribers, and those that did buy the paper were the same readers that had first read the paper twenty years ago.

Emi's huge ears twitched nervously, she herself had wrote quite a few novels while she had been at University: although she was not one to admit it. She was happy in journalism, telling the world about the price of cheese- or, that was Emi's face on the subject.

"I'll have to keep an eye out for Thali's books for once Edwin's born. Do you work?" She added, as a friendly afterthought.

Risa only nodded, she couldn't say she'd never heard of it, that would have been rude. She would be sure to look for it on the shelves.

"Oh, I work at a sweet shop in the mall." She said with a brief nod. "It's only part-time, but I needed something to do. I like to keep busy." She could imagine her parents reactions if she had told them that. She was happiest making others happy.

Back to the situation in hand, the journalist had come to a rather prompt decision: denim for now. Klia would skin her alive if she did not come back with at least one piece of blue clothing, so it had to be denim in this indecisive moment. If she kept onto the receipt, she could bargain it over in her head once the cranky receptionist had vanished, and then bring it back. It was a perfect plan!

So, in went the dungarees.

"I can understand, I don't know what I'd do if I weren't writing articles most nights,"

Sweet shop- it suited Risa, Emi couldn't see the lady in front of her in a posh suit, filling documents into a cabinet.

"Although, if you don't mind me saying, I had a vague idea you were a teacher," Emi chuckled, running a hand through her dark locks.

"I bet you'll keep me up all night though soon, eah?" She spoke directly to the cabbage.

Suddenly, the thought occurred to her.

"Does your cabbage...Smell?"

Risa nodded in understanding. "My friends are the same way--they stay up all night, writing. I think that's one of the reasons they've been sleeping so late into the day.. along with the twins." She paused, and had to resist the urge to giggle. Teacher? Her? She'd never considered it. That seemed more like Thali's forte, wasn't it the elf's dream to share her knowledge with children?

"Well, I am good with kids." She agreed with a smile. "But I don't think I could teach.. I'd spoil the students." Cabbage, smell? She was reminded of something.

"Mine doesn't, really. The boy I know of-- while he was a cabbage, he smelled like peppermint."

Had Emi have wished to reply, the journalist would not have been given the time, Edwin wouldn't have allowed it. The little girl had gotten fed up of her cabbage prison, and she wanted out.

She wanted out now: and now meant now.

It started off quite violently, a few of the larger leaves parted, and suddenly out poured a flood of sticky, gooey water. What the gesture lacked in noise, it made up in volume: the viscous liquid seeped out over the trolley, around both of the women's feet: pooling around the pair in a circle.

In the center of it all unfurled a little girl, soaked to the skin. Her beautiful, ornate dress stuck to her arms and legs, her vibrant pink hair cemented against her delicate rosy cheeks. In her hands lay a bunch of roses: a full bunch, a lover's dream, a pricey bunch at any florist in Gaia.

Edwin gasped as the first gulp of oxygen flowed through her chest, small chubby arms covering her eyes from the lights. It was bright out here, and it was cold - it wasn't the warm, comfortable cabbage she had grown to love over the past month.

"Edwin?" Emi gasped.

Risa had to resist the urge to gush at the sheer adorableness of the child. She wasn't very good at it. "She's beautiful!" She told Emi, smiling. She tried to ignore the uncomfortable stickyness under her shoes. Maybe all cabbages were different. She didn't remember Thali saying anything about water.

She paused and smiled again. "At least now, you know what to buy." She knew Emi was probably in shock-- she knew she would have been if hers had chosen to open in the middle of a store. So all she could do for now, was talk.

It was cold, far too cold. Dropping the bouquet of flowers, Edwin's luminous green eyes stared up at women: what was going on? Her bottom jaw quibbled, fat tears welling up in those innocent eyes. She didn't know where she was, she didn't know who these two were, and the poor rose wasn't sure if she even wanted to be here.

"Yeah," It was all she could manage to say to Risa.

Reaching out, Emi slowly plied the child from her cabbage confinement, pulling the little girl awkwardly to her chest. The transition from cabbage to baby had left the guardian clueless of how to even hold onto the trolley, let alone a baby girl. She was so small, so delicate, so very, very precious: whilst Emi had been expecting a toddler of perhaps one, Edwin looked around eight months old.

Now, that was slightly better. Edwin's baby fingers grappled onto her Mother's blouse, up here she was shaded from those hideous lights, and most importantly she was out of that sticky mess. Her bare feet kicked beneath her dress as the first tear dribbled down her sodden cheeks: when would this woman learn how to hold her properly!

"Could you hold her for a second? I'm sure she's cold," Emi stuttered with a smile.

Poor darling, she must have been frightened! Risa nodded at Emi, before reaching to take the child, and carefully holding her to her chest. It was out of habit, a practiced hand was carefully placed behind Edwin's head.

She hadn't expected the child to be so young. Though.. Hadn't Ben implied that he'd found an infant? "I hear they grow fast." She said dutifully, trying to reassure the new mother. "The one I know of-- his father said he was getting into everything after a week."

Dragging her cardigan off her arms, the journalist did her best to dry stickiest parts of the woollen cardigan off on her damp blouse.

She was gradually forming a plan: step one, wrap Edwin up in the cardigan, try to find a blanket in the shop, and then catch the bus home. There really wasn't much she could do about the sticky afterbirth that lay all the way around the trolley: it was the store cleaner's bad day of the week.

"Ah," She whispered. It then suddenly hit her in the face: nappies. There, in front of her was a six month old child that was not toilet trained. The journalist all at once felt extremely unprepared, very, very unprepared.

"D-do you know anything about nappies?" Emi blurted out, offering the article of clothing to Risa.

Edwin, in the meantime, snuffled: tears forthcoming down her cheeks. She was confused, frightened, and she was now being passed around like a basketball. Her fingers balled into tight fists, wiping at her cheeks.

Risa had never seen anything like it. She shook her head at Taley, saying, "I wish I could be of more help." She really did sound regretful. "But let's see.. I think you use something to put it together, right?"

She really did wish she could help this woman. Emil looked so lost. Probably just as lost as Risa would be when her cabbage opened. The fae could only hope that she would recieve help as well.

"Shush, shush," Emi soothed, wrapping the top of the cardigan around the baby in Risa's arms. She inhaled a deep breath: one step at a time, she would ring Klia, send her out to go get some supplies, and then take Edwin home. Whilst it was not the perfect situation by any means, Edwin hatching in the middle of a shop had not been perfect by any means either.

Edwin, sniffled: a strange feeling tickled the back of her throat, ending at her nose. Twitching her red nose, the young baby violently sneezed. That was it, she wanted back into her cabbage - NOW! Even the interesting surroundings could not hide how uncomfortable that sneeze had been.

"Bless you," The journalist frowned, suddenly rather concerned not only about the nappie's but Edwin's health.

"I best start heading home, before she gets any colder," As much as she would love the Fae's help, she couldn't let Edwin catch a cold on her first day with the journalist.

Risa handed Edwin to her mother carefully. "Give her a warm bath when you get home." She advised with a nod. "Make sure it's not too hot though--And some warm formula should help with her chill, too." Yes, Risa had dealt with children with colds before.

"I look forward to meeting you again, Emi." Risa said with a smile. "You too, Edwin. I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you can meet my little one, next time." She gestured to the cabbage in her cart.

"Thank you," The journalist spoke with a smile. Holding Edwin carefully in one arm, corrected with a hand settled just beneath her vibrant pink hair: now, the new issue popped up its head, how does one fish about in a handbag, and hold onto a child?

Bending down slightly, short brown furry fingers out stretched from beneath Edwin's soaked dress, fingering the edge of her handbag. Luckily, she'd kept it open, and accessible after giving out those tickets: hindsight was working in her favour for once. Clumsily producing a business card, she offered it to Risa.

"I'd sure Edwin would love to meet a friend, my phone number is on there,"

Edwin, in the meantime, started to sniffle. The tears that had dribbled down her cheeks were suddenly distracted: this lady was furry. Reaching out her chubby fingers, she stroked the tips of her fingertips over the caramel brown fur. Oooh- it was soft.
