"You guys are so cruel!" Lysander pouted, "Getting my hopes up like that..." He shot a pseudo irritated glance at Emi. They both had said something that had meant he would have a chance in the future. This could mean one of two things: they both weren't interested and were trying to let him down easy or they were playing hard to get. That was fine with him. For now, he'd play along with their little game, whichever of the options it was.
Lysander thought a moment about a nickname for Emi, ignoring her request not to receive one. He watched as Emi got into a "fight or flee" stance, as if the prospect of a nickname posed some sort of physical threat. It was kind of funny how most every situation with Emi turned out like that. Back at the training field, she had even proposed a two on one battle, which ended with a minor injury on her part and probably loads of guilt for Riordan, the other participant. Lysander had gotten to half-way carry her to the infirmary, so he was more than happy the situation had turned out that way.
He paid attention to her stance back then, too. Emi was unmistakably cat-like, her movements during battle and even the way she was standing now. Lysander smiled. It was a good enough nickname, he thought. Descriptive, somewhat humorous, and maybe even a little cute. Giggles was the same. Those kind of nicknames suited females, regardless of personality. Most looked cute in his opinion... until they opened their mouthes. "Hey, Giggles, what do you think of Kitty? Sound good?"

Ryou ignored Emi’s protests, if Ryou was getting a nickname so was she! In fact Ryou had to suppress a mocking laugh as the girl seemed about ready to flee. Was she seriously that much of a coward? It was just a nickname, it’s not like it would fly about the Academy and cause some sort of physical trauma, that was just ridiculous. In a way Ryou had just lost a bit of respect for Emi, if she would run away from something as harmless as a nickname, how would she face centipedes? Her grandfather had always told her that no matter how bad it gets, if you’re on the battlefield and your superiors haven’t commanded you to turn back, you stay exactly where you are. Nothing Lysander said would be able to get her to turn and flee now. “Kitty eh?” Ryou smirked as she turned her attention back to Lysander, “I must say I like it Goggles.” She nodded, examining Emi briefly before nodding with a chuckle, “Fits her rather well. Kitty it is.” Indeed, the way Emi stood it did fit her rather well, though it didn’t fit in with the current nicknames as well as one would like. Not that that mattered that much.

Emi relaxed a bit, still keeping a flexible form. The nickname wouldn't kill her so she guessed she would be able to live with. Emi looked at the two and stuck her tongue.
She was happy to stay talking with the two but she was itching to get moving. Spotting a tree someways off, she ran over and hopped up into the branch. A second after she flipped back down and bounced over to the other recruits. "Sorry, I needed to move again. I'm so used to fighting constantly that I can't stay still knowing that I can move." Emi smiled sheepishly. As weak as she seemed, she felt extremely comfortable when put into dangerous situations.

Lysander smiled triumphantly at his accomplishment. That they had all given each other nicknames was a sign of an everlasting bond. Even if one went to a different fort than the other two, they would definately all remember each other. Emi had missed out on the fun because she hadn't had the initiative to make one for either of them. She'd even almost missed out on getting a nickname too, having gotten into position to literally run away from it, a move that Lysander would probably never understand.
Even so, he was startled as he watched Emi walk to a window near a tree, jump out of it onto said tree, and then as if to make the entire ordeal even more ridiculous, promptly jump back down and hop cheerily back over to Lysander and Ryou. It was then that he realized in exactly what way Emi was cat-like. He remembered the cat he'd had back at home. That cat was a good fourteen years old and had taken to the habit of randomly going through spurts of dashing about the house. The nickname was still appropriate, just in a different way. Before, Lysander had associated Kitty with a kitten, whereas now she was associated with the senile, partially balding male cat his parents insisted on keeping even though he constantly pooped on the floor. Lysander chuckled to himself. Now every time he thought of Emi, the picture of the ever-faithful Socks would pop into his head.
He might have made one of those Kitty-stuck-in-a-tree jokes had she not jumped back down. Were he the kind to insult a lady, the group might have had a great deal of laughter over that spastic moment of Emi's. Instead, he would forever have the picture of Kitty, partially balding, squatted over a spot in one of their classrooms and getting ready to take a giant dump. Lysander covered his mouth so as not to let a single sound out. After the girl's explanation, however, even his suspiciously strong right hand was unable to keep the sound in. Lysander doubled over, clutching his sides in hilarity. This was too rich.
Giggles especially had to find this funny. If she could find flirting funny, then she would definately find Kitty's... 'whatever that just was' funny.
