He looked at Katrina with a barely perceptible tightening of expression. Why her? He knew she would have noticed his change, she was in a career where not noticing such subtle changes in body language could mean death.
"This drawer was emptied after whatever happened. . . there's the sawdust to prove it. . ." He wasn't sure what to think. He still suspected the slaves, not an animal, there wasn't enough proof to the contrary in his mind. He stood closer to his mistress, one hand clenched involuntarily.

Katrina pushed the offensive body language to the back of her mind. She knew that his skills were practiced in more area's then just pleasure, but any guesses as to his real function she might have were completely assumed. Which meant he could be here as a confident or guardian. She also knew he would only do something if Isabel wanted him to, so she could safely ignore him. "That is strange. Did anyone think to apprehend the owner of this room. He may know something. He may also be in shock if what ever did this scared him." She was rapidly making the same deductions as Isabel had, but with one important clue. Katrina noted the large nature of something that crushed the bed, talons that raked the wood, no marks on the door to signal an attempt to get out....but Katrina knew something of this size, that could get in and out without a door and leave its owner unscathed enough to assume his duties on his own. "With your permission, I would like to go find this slave. All we have here is a trashed room. Either some prank has been played or the slave is trying to hide something. No animal could have done this without leaving certain tell tale signs." Katrina said out loud. Inwardly she added, at least no animal from this world.

A meaningful glance fell towards Isabel. A prank. He was glad another voice had mentioned it. His knife hand bent reflexively again. He could almost feel the eyes watching him. But it was not his turn to act. He reported, and he placed himself in as neutral position as possible with regards to Isabel and Katrina. His moving closer could easily be mistaken as submission.

"This is an apprentice's room," Isabel noticed. Every one was talking very fast, so she slowed the pace down for her own sake. Not that she had any trouble understanding, but that every one seemed on the verge of doing something rash. Or maybe that was just her.
"Katrina, question the apprentice as you like. Immediately. Pretend that it was an animal, but find out if they have any enemies. Bring me whatever comes of it."
Isabel turned to Daerin. "What weapons can simulate these marks?" she demanded of him. She expected that it was a prank, and prank could be dealt with. But if it was not a prank, she wanted it to look like one any way. "With how much force?" She imagined either one large man or two smaller women or men. She was going to round up people, and she was going to punish some one. That was her job.

Daerin thought for a moment and withdrew his dagger, slamming the point into the dresser and pulling outward, dragging the tip. The result was a pale imitation of the claw marks. "Someone who knew the wood, and what they were creating, could do it without much trouble." He said softly. He knew he was no wood worker, but it was obvious from his test it took very little effort to mark this furniture.
He resheathed the blade and turned to her. His mind raced, who did it, and where were they? Was it innocent fun? Or was an ambush still waiting? "What do you want done?"

Isabel frowned at the mark he had made. "That depends on what Katrina finds, in part," she said. "But I want to conduct a search of the House before then. This room will be locked." She'd didn't have to directly command any one to get something so simple done. Since their arrival at the scene, at least two servants had gathered patiently outside the door, in case their mistress should need something like a message sent.
Isabel caught one as he was leaving. "I want the lawn of the House searched first, then the outer rooms like this one and on until the center."
Satisfied with her own orders, she had only one thing out of place. Daerin. He would probably be helpful in such a search, but he was also useful at her side. She lowered her voice so that only Daerin (and Katrina if she is still there) could hear easily. "You and I will be upstairs," where her room and her mother's were. "I want you to start the search up there. I'll be with my mother and her guards."

Katrina had already been slipping out and only caught enough to know Isabel had finally figured out where she belonged in a crisis situation like this: surrounded by guards in a comfy secure room where she would not be in the way. Satisfied with at least one thing, Katrina went to get her roaster of the compound's slaves and their assigned living quarters. As she left again, this time to the medical tent, where Isabel had suggested she start the search, Katrina ran her finger along the page to find out who she was looking for. Jhovam. The name that was listed surprised her. He was the new slave, hardly the person she would have thought to bne capable of pranks or dragon bonding. Katrina would go with he prank thing for now, bt at least she could use thee excuse that he was new and someone was playing a cruel joke on the new recruit. It was virtually unheard of for slaves to prank slaves. Anything that caused unrest would be immidiately punished. But katrina did not put it beyond the more malicious of her own gender to do this. She walked into the medical tent, looking for Jhovam...

(Just to make it clear, I see no reason to split this thread to accommodate the two scenes that just split off. Punk Fox and I want to be ready with NPCs for you, any way heart )
One of the slaves was soon at Katrina's side. He'd heard some of Isabel's and Marean's orders from another slave just a moment ago, but wasn't sure where he fit in. "Excuse me, Miss," he said as he walked behind her. "Many of the other ladies have been asked to stay in their rooms. Many of the slaves have no clear duties at the moment because of this. Where should they go?"
If Katrina looked back, she would recognize the older slave as one who had served in the kitchen area a long time.

Katrina didnt have time tforr this, but it was her responsibility. She turned around to talk to the slave, recognizing the man immidiately. "Look, anyone who doesnt have any duties right now should stay in their room and keep it closed unless summoned for. All the slaves working outside are to be extra careful and keep an eye out for anything unusual. They are to report to me....or Isabel." The last was added begrudgingly, but she did not want to make an enemy out of her half-sister. "There should be a double shift of guards. The normal shift on the wall, the second on the grounds itself. I dont care how its done, just make sure whoever is taking charge of the guards knows that. And make sure everyone is careful, I dont want anyone getting hurt. Oh, and if you see Jhovam, tell him I want to see him immidiately. Now go." With the last command she turned and began searchingg the tent for Jhovam.

The slave bowed out of her way and ran to pass on the message. It would reach Ross at the border of the compound within the half hour, after under going a few modifications/specifications from Marean and Isabel about what the guards should be on watch for.

Jhovam sat tepidly in the medical tent, stunned slightly by the search of wild animals on his bed. He turned his head sharply up at the sound, and then realized that it was one of his new masters Katrina.
As soon as he saw her, he stood up sharply, and then bowed respectfully. "Greetings, ma'am. Are you in need of my services?"
He looked up at her, curious of the reason for a guest. 'Hmm ... she does not look injured or sick. I wonder if this has to do with the dragon bonding. As I am not sure of what exactly happened, I will not burden my master with such confusions.'
Jhovam smoothed out his wrinkled robe, trying to make this rough wool garb that was on his hard back more appealing to such a high-standing lady.

"Jhovam! Follow me immidiately!" Katrina was obviously showing signs of anger, but inside it was more fustration. This was not something she wanted to deal with. The panic had subsided now, leaving more room for a seething negative emotion that did not rub well with the other slaves, knowing her capacity for inflicting injury.
She led the way from the medic tent to her own personal quarters. She would conduct the 'interrogation' in her room, where they would least likely be disturbed. Her quarters were closer to the stables then the other rooms of the mansion that housed those of the family that would not inherit the compound. She got to the great oak double doors and threw one open. "Get in...now" Katrina's voice was a fine line between urgency and threatening.

Jhovam's eyes were clear examples of panic, but he headed the Mistress's words.
'What is going on? Is this anything about that dream? Am I presentable? Am I able?'
The robe around Jhovam shook roughly as he stepped through the oak doors. His blue eyes darted around the surroundings, trying to take in what he saw. Beads of sweat raced down his face, and Jhovam held his hands and played with his thumbs nervously.
((Sorry about that. I believe I can participate more often now. wink ))

Katrina shut the door witth a rough tug on the handle, slidingg the lock bolt into place. She turned and shoved a chair roughly towards Jhovam. "Sit!" She commanded as she walked past him to the window. She had a theory, but she needed Jhovam to let on to having a dragon before she could be certain. It was possible that it was just a prank, or that there was some other reasonable explination, but Katrina wanted to know for sure.
"Jhovam" Katrina began "I am going to give you a chance to co-operate, because right now, you are on the edge of serious trouble. You can explain yourself to me willingly, or you can explain it to Marean and Isabel under less pleasent circumstance. You see, Isabel was in your room this morning and she was not happy to see the state you had left it in this morning. What in the world happened in the room Jhovam?"
Jhovam could trust, based on the testimony of the other slaves, that Katrina would only use the pain inflicting magics in serious circumstances. However, if Jhovam did not co-operate, she was fully reaedy to extrapolate the information herself using any means necessary. She would never disobey as direct a command as Isabel had given. Testing Katrina's patience in this matter would not be the most plausible move to make. At least, thats the vibe Katrina was trying to give to the slave she had dragged into her room.

Jhovam's eyes were wide open as he sat down stiffly. What on earth could this mistress mean? He had just gotten here, and then he managed to get in trouble all ready? Was it about that dream? No, it couldn't be ... could it?
"To tell the truth, ma'am, I have no idea what happened there. I was just sleeping, then I awoke to a broken bed. Honest, ma'am."
If he was beaten, Jhovam hoped that he could get enough freedoms to heal himself. After all, scars were not very pleasing to the Mistress's eyes.
