pyroboy31337 im not a big epiphone fan, i played a epiphone sg bass..it was pritty bad..ive also hade some bad experences wiht epiphone guitars as well.. some epiphones have been crap.. i wont deny that.. but i've come to love this 1958 flying v bass (as is)... dunno.. it just gives a great unique sound when it comes to using effects through it... so as of such... its primarily my effects bass. whee ... i mean other than a full effects song or if my main bass is screwing up or something like that... I wouldnt use it and would go with my weapon of choice (ie- my jazz bass.) My epiphone does a great job for a backup bass. biggrin

You know what I have never quite understood. Bass Amps ... I looked at your beginning speech about them ... but I was just wondering ... How do people set there Tones to sound ... I mean ... My amp has Four Tone Controls. Low, Low-mid, High-mid and High. They all have Numbers on them ranging from 1 to 10 ... I was wondering how to set them so I have a good "punchy" tone. I guess what I am asking is how are your amps tonal controls set up. Also ... can someone Tell me how a Graphic Equalizer works?

I guess what I am asking is how are your amps tonal controls set up. Basically I would recommend just experimenting until you find the exact sound that you like/want.
Here's a couple of standard settings I scanned from my amp's owner's manual:

Hope this helps you a bit.. I really havent messed my hands on a four tone amp.. all the ones ive had only had bass, mid and treble. The 'funk' setting would be your best bet for a nice punchy sound. 3nodding Yojobimmbo Also ... can someone Tell me how a Graphic Equalizer works? Pending on the Graphic equalizers, they generally they let you boost or dampen different frequency ranges, allowing for customization of acoustics and other different capabilities and ect.

PREVIOUS GEAR REVIEW OF (08/19/04)!
Make / Model: Yamaha RBX170 4-String Bass
Gear Type: Bass Guitars
Cost / Purchase Detail: Musician's Friend has them for $176.99 (plus tax)
What I liked: First things first, I liked the price. Not that bad of a buy for someone looking for a bass on a budget and at the same time doesnt want to degrade by buying a squier. (that of course just could be a bais statement).
What I didn't like: After playing many different styles on this bass I've found that the strings tend to buzz when you play on the E & A strings (two lower strings in standard tuning of course) and also that it's a bit to heavy and over bearing to play comfortably.
Construction / Quality: Let's just say you get what you pay for. It isn't anything to brag about but of course it isn't that bad either. It is something that could hold together after a few drops but I would seriously recommend completely replacing the bridge & pick ups (if not buying a better bass) if you plan on playing bass for real.
Bottom Line: As far as price and quality goes, this is a good "learner" bass. Other than that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who was looking for a serious instrument. Kyrenx Rates this Guitar: 3.6 out of 5!

Although I like lined fretlesses better because....... I suck.

BaSsStuD hey Kyrenx i was wondering what kind of amp do you have and also what you thought about the Ibanez SR305DX 5-String Bass Well.. I have two different amps.
Fender Bassman 60 (my practice & long distance travel amp... I prefer using this one for performances in small bars)
Ampeg B5R Amplifier Head with Gallien-Krueger 210SBX 200W 2X10" and 115SBX 200W 1X15" cabnet (Used many only for gigs, this sweet combo gives me all the power i need xd )
and it's quite weird that you ask about the Ibanez SR305DX 5-String... because I was actually looking at one the other day (and have been looking at for the at least a year now sweatdrop ) and I swear.. if I were to buy a 5 string.. it would definintly be that one. (just the idea of dishing out even more money (in which I currently dont have lots of after all the stuff i already bought). I could go on with all the stuff that i love and hate about the bass but i'll just wait and write a more detail review on it later on.
