"Yeah, but I don't like to go out after dark much these days." Kaimi's smile was slightly embarrassed. She didn't like to admit she was still afraid of the shadows that could be lurking around every corner. And everybody knew that vampires could only be out during the nighttime. "But as long as I tell her where I'm going, my mom doesn't care."

"Perfect." Delilah gave the other girl a pleased smile, neatly dismissing the fears by adding, "The flowers don't like night either. For the most part. Night-blooming jasmine is sweet, though." She absently spun the beaded bracelet around her wrist as she thought. "We can go to the botanical gardens. To my grotto, I think. Don't you?"

"I didn't even know there were botanical gardens in this part of town." Kaimi took a sip of her cocoa and then grinned at Delilah. "I'd like to try hibiscus, but I'm not sure how it would do in the climate here. If we were working indoors, though..." The girl sighed wistfully. "It would be so nice to have a plumeria tree."

"Hibiscus?" Delilah giggled and the sound was definitely soft and musical; she probably practiced in her room at night. Then she reached up to touch the flower tucked into her shining hair. "Kaimi, I carry hibiscus with me everywhere I go. There's no trick to them at all. Pick something harder."

Kaimi pretended to pout for a moment, but then broke into a grin and giggle back. It was not nearly as magical a sound as Delilah's charming laugh, but it was sweet and genuine. "I guess I carry it too." She touched her own flower. "But plumeria might be fun, and the pink ones smell like cinnamon. What about honeysuckle? They're probably not difficult, but they're so pretty..." She was admittedly drawn to vining flowers. The kind that would take over a fence and uproot an arbor given the chance.

Delilah nodded. "Honeysuckle," she agreed, "is so flexible and pretty. The scent, too. Oh! How about night-blooming jasmine? We can make a picture with the flowers and their scents."

Kaimi thought on this for a moment. "It would be lovely to have a moon-garden, you know. I've read about them. A garden that only blossoms at night..." Her tone turned wistful, the thought being enough to make her willing to venture into the dark. As long as it was in a safe place... "If we are going to make a flower kingdom, it should have a name. Something pretty." She decided finally.

"Of course." Delilah again looked into some middle distance as she considered the options. "Something exotic," she continued. "Babylon, maybe? It was famous for its hanging gardens."

"Oh, yes, I like Babylon." Kaimi said, not entirely sycophantically. It was a pretty name, after all. Better than Sodom or Gomorrah she mused to herself, her lips quirking in a faint little smile. "Where will we build it, though?" She wondered aloud, knowing Delilah would have the answer. Del always had the answer. And in Kaimi's mind, their little garden had already transformed into a vast and elaborate kingdom in which they ruled over with gentle justice and where all their friends could come and live too.

Delilah considered the question, absently tapping her chin with one long finger. Her nails were painted pink, shining in the cafe lights with a bit of subtle glitter. "The gardens are large," she mused, "but I don't know if they would allow us to claim a part of it." The crease between her eyebrows clearly communicated her feelings on that restriction. "It's getting warmer. Maybe we can find a field or a clearing?"

"There are woods all over. Theres got to be clearings and things." She nodded in thoughtful agreement. "I'll keep my eyes open for something suitable."

"Of course." Delilah smiled at her friend, warm and sweet. "We will find the best place and go ahead with it. Besides, the world can always use more flowers, right?"

"No," Delilah returned mildly, "you can't." She picked up her tea and relaxed back in her chair with another cat-in-the-cream smile. "I think we should start this weekend. It'd be a nice, warm one. Sooner started, right?"
Plans made, she sipped at her tea, secure in her knowledge that there was a new project on the horizon. Even more secure in the knowledge of her relationship with Kaimi. Excellent.
