L'thor nodded and relaxed while the tailor hunted; he knew all too well how long it could take to find something a flit had decided to hide. Mostly River preferred to steal other people's things and hide them about the place, but he had been known to move L'thor's things around as well. Flits might not be all that bright, but L'thor remained convinced that River got a kick out of hiding just one of his boots on the one day he was already running late for something.
"He can be agile enough when it pleases him," L'thor chuckled as Dusk preened a wing before curling up and closing his eyes. "Mostly though he prefers to be carried around, or to be asleep. Still, I suppose he makes up for River. I've had the pair of them eleven turns now, and River is a hyperactive and mischievous as ever." Not that he'd change the little blue even if he could; he secretly enjoyed it when River 'borrowed' things from people, and he was remarkably easy to influence on that score too. People who annoyed L'thor but upon whom he could not exact revenge of one degree or another often found themselves hunting around for a something they could have sworn they had only a moment ago.
"Sly beast," Raith accused with a chuckle.
"Well, would you rather I persuaded River to steal some stuck-up bronze's favorite broach, or would you rather I publicly humiliated him in a thoroughly one-sided battle of wits?" he asked of his dragon with a mental smirk.
"Oh, the former," she replied easily. "Anything to keep you out of trouble and it is quite funny when you get Dusk to put it back in his weyr just as he's gathered a crowd of people to complain that somebody must have stolen it from him."
"Quite! He did get so embarrassed when Kain pointed it out to him sitting right in plain sight. Priceless; him humiliated and me out of trouble, so don't you go complaining about my slyness!"
Raith snorted at him but offered no more response than that, and L'thor chuckled to himself as he looked over at River. The excitable flit picked up on the positive emotions being directed at him and crooned happily, his eyes whirling blue with contentment. Clearly he was a very good and very handsome flit, yes he was, and he was going to be given something tasty to eat later on; joy!

Rummaging through a few usual piles the measure eventually makes itself known. Among a small stash of some more stolen needles, how convenient. Kita snatches the needles up while Thell is occupied with the other flits, and brings them back over along with the measure. "I found it."
"Eleven turns? They hardly look that old, I would have guessed they weren't much older then Thell." Kita glances back towards the flits again for a moment, Thell happily nosing her needle and chirping at the two blues. "I've never thought of them as lazy though, more as saving their energy for when they think it's time to use it all." He sets the needles down on the workbench and stretches the measure out a bit. "Could you hold your arms out?"
Thell cocks her head to the side at the blue's croon and gives a chirp to direct his attention back on the shiny needle. Nosing it again she nudges it towards the pair of blue flits with a pleased creen and takes off towards the workbench to re-snatch one of the others that Kita had found.

River picked up the needle and inspected it carefully. Giving a happy cheep, he vanished between with it causing L'thor to sigh deeply as he held his arms out. "I'll try to get that back to you," he said with a shake of his head. "Likely as not I've find it in a few sevendays by stabbing myself with it." A moment later, River popped back into the room holding a bone die he must have dug out of his hoard. Giving a happy croon he set it down where the needle had been.
"Looks like they're swapping toys," L'thor added, raising an eyebrow. "I have no idea where he got that from." ...Had S'norn been complaining about being down one from his set?... Ah. Oh well, he detested the man in any case; so long as it was never found and Kita didn't get blamed for stealing it he would be really quite happy if the blasted blue rider never saw his precious die ever again.
"I don't know exactly how long they live," he went on with a nod to the trio of flits, "but I gather they can live for quite some time, probably at least as long as we do." He liked that idea; he knew he'd be heartbroken if either of the little blue idiots died on him. They might be a pain sometimes and always very demanding but that didn't change the fact that he loved them both to bits.

Thell chirps happily and sets her second needle down while the blue is gone off with the other one. Kita can only shake his head amused. "It's alright. It could have ended up worse, Thell has managed to hide needles in the sleeve or pocket of a customer's order and we don't find out until they complain and try pinning the blame on us for pricking themselves." Though she seemed to only do that to a person that she happened to not like too much, and thankfully not often.
He stretches the measure along each arm then L'thor's shoulders, and waist to get the measurements and marks them down on his bench. Another glance is spared for the flits and he grins lightly. "So then it seems they've made friends? And if that turns out to be something you need back, if Thell doesn't hide it somewhere too tricky to get to." Thell meanwhile gives an excited chirp and picks up the die to eye it. Another happy creen and she lifts off and flies for one of her usual hiding stashes to put it there among a few spools, needles, a couple shiny ribbons, and other trinkets.
"It would be nice if they live that long. It's nice having the company around all the time." Even with having to buy more sewing supplies constantly with her fondness for stashing them away somewhere, or losing them.

L'thor gave a snort and rolled his eyes. "Mmm, I can imagine; people do seem to love to blame others for their own stupidity. Always check a new garment over before you put it on; the chances of there being a forgotten pin, or apparently a small stash of needles, somewhere in it is surprisingly high." But then again, most people were surprisingly stupid. Ah well, gave him something to laugh at even if it did also get blameless folk like Kita shouted at by belligerent fools.
"Seems as though they have," L'thor agreed with a nod as he watched Thell fly off with the die. "Good job too; they don't have all that many friends among their own kind. Perhaps they'll all wear one another out a little and therefore have slightly less energy to cause trouble."
"Does that mean I need to get more friends for you?" Raith asked with a rumble. "I'd love it if you wore yourself out and caused less trouble that I have to try to get you out of."
L'thor chuckled. "Me? Worn out? That'll never happen and you know it; I am an inexhaustible bundle of trouble, ego and wit." Shaking his head, L'thor turned back to Kita. "My dragon wants me to make more friends and tire myself out so that I cause less trouble for her," he informed the tailor with a grin.

"Well, it can be a little amusing though. If my master is in when they drop by to complain, he can start up a very good argument that it was their needle they had with them and only tried to blame us for being careless to lose it. Thell is thankfully never around when they do complain, the angry footsteps are easy for her to pick out now." And well, his master had a silver tongue even in arguing, which was always a small treat to watch. Though he'd never say that aloud.
"The same for Thell, she's not around many other flits." Not that she seemed to show it much with how she was behaving. "I wonder if it's not very kind to her, to not be with more of her kind from time to time, though she seems to enjoy my company and hiding around the shop." Kita smiles faintly, such a cheerful flit to have around too even with her mischief. "I'm not sure it would work that way. The second their next meal's finished the energy would probably come right back to them again."
A moment's pause and Kita can't help but laugh just a bit. Then the little tidbit of information seeps in. "You're a green rider? That must be exciting."

L'thor gave a short laugh and nodded. "Yes, it certainly is exciting. None of the other colours can match us lot in the air. Greens are definitely the best, although," he snorted, "I'd probably say that of blues or browns if I'd Impressed one of them. It's also very exciting to have a large majority of the people on the bigger dragons, especially damn bronnzes, thinking they're better than us." L'thor scowled slightly and shook his head. "Rarity doesn't always equal something that is better than something more common. I know more people who have two legs than people who only have one, but nobody insists that having one is superior. Great cumbersome things in flight bronzes are, and they must be a sharding pain to mount and keep clean."
"You're ranting," Raith informed him in amused tones, "much as your rants amuse me, you might be scaring the poor tailor."
Taking the advice on board with an internal sigh, L'thor gave Kita a smile. "I'm sure you don't need to hear all of my opinions on belligerent bronzes though. As to the flits," he glanced over at the trio, "well, I think that once they've impressed you, they consider you the leader of their fair or something? You might not be able to flit around with them but they still think you're one of them so far as I can tell. You're right though, about their energy; the moment River gets some meat inside him and isn't quite full to bursting anymore he's off again. Persuading him to go to sleep when I want to is often something of a challenge."
Privately L'thor suspected that it was times when he'd gone to sleep but River was still up that the blue did most of his thieving. Either he was very sly and knew he was less likely to get caught at night, or he was just bored without someone to bother and went off hunting for shinies to add to his collection.

Kita nods lightly once, and stares just a bit through most of the ranting before turning his eyes to the flits. When L'thor finished his small rant, Kita looks back at him again with a shake of the head and faint smile back. "Everyone has an opinion. I rather think that every color is just as good as the rest of them though. I listen in on the conversations sometimes between riders, everyone always seems so proud of their own dragon and keen on bragging." A light chuckle escapes for that note.
"The greens are faster and agile, the blues can last longer in the air and are quick, brown riders like to boast a lot about their dragons' stamina, and the bronzes can last the longest through Thread and training. I'd think they have help with cleaning their dragons though, a Bronze is so large it would take ages to clean by one person?" He nods lightly, smiling a bit over at the trio of flits. "I'm not sure about being considered a leader to them, being a member of their family though is a nice thought."
He grins up at L'thor. "It doesn't take even that for Thell, the moment she smells food her energy is back. As far as I know, she's usually asleep before I am. But that isn't saying she might wake up sometime during the night, if she does I really have no clue how she spends her time but I hope it isn't stealing someone else's things. She does have a fondness for stealing scraps from the kitchens though."

L'thor chuckled and nodded at that. "Mmm, Dusk's like that; if he isn't asleep in my weyr or with me, he's begging around the kitchens. It's a wonder he isn't any fatter than he is." The kitchen staff seemed to have given up being annoyed by the blue flit's presence by and large. After all, he didn't make trouble and he ate anything meat-based, including the bits that would just have been thrown away otherwise. "Perhaps he secretly exercises at night," L'thor speculated with a shake of his head as the dozing flit twitched a wing before settling again.
"It's true about us riders though," he went on with a grin. "We're like those obnoxious parents who won't stop going on about how amazing their child is no matter how bored you look or how many times you politely stifle a yawn. Still, it doesn't seem to be something anyone can help when the topic's brought up unless they're reallygrouchy and stoic. If you ever need to get on the good side of a rider, just tell them how amazing their dragon is, or if you've never seen their dragon give them a chance to tell you how amazing their dragon is."
"Are you going to tell him how amazing I am?" Raith asked with a rumble of amusement. "I do like it when you talk about how wonderful I am."
"If he asks I might mention it briefly," L'thor replied, "but I shan't go on at him. I'll tell you how wonderful you are later on though if you like."
The green crooned happily at that. "Oh yes do, and while you're at it you and give my eye-ridges and nice rub."
L'thor smiled faintly to himself. "Of course; whatever you want. You know I love to spoil you." Raith certainly was the best dragon in the Weyr, no, in all of Pern.

Kita smiles a bit at that and looks between the two blue flits. "Or he could have a secret life helping your River find new things to collect when you're not awake to see it." Though the flit doesn't quite look the type to steal like his companion, you can't really be too sure of things that can happen when you're asleep.
"Well, you do have a right to be proud I'd think. The dragons really are a sight to behold, though I've only seen a few in my time here." Not that he minded, they were incredibly large and it isn't that easy to forget a dragon once you've seen one. "What shade of green is your dragon though? It's always interesting to know there are so many different colors of green, and the others out there."

L'thor grinned to himself; he did love an excuse to go on about how pretty Raith was. "Her name's Raith, I probably should have mentioned that before," he began, easily warming to the topic. "Mostly she's the colour of young leaves, but she's speckled with several darker shades that look more or less the colour of coniferous leaves. The speckles are heavy along her spine and get sparser down her flanks. She doesn't have any on her wings or her underside... Of course," he grinned at the young tailor, "words don't do her justice in the least. Her skin always looks in good health, because I oil her all over at least once a sevenday. I end up needing to pay for extra oil because I far exceed my quota." It was worth it though; the primping relaxed both of them, and they both loved Raith to look her best at all times. What a vain pair they were.
"I wouldn't put it past him to be in on the thievery," L'thor said thoughtfully after a moment. "He can be very sneaky when he wants to be; I never notice him creeping up to my plate until he's had half the meat off it and vanished again."

Kita smiles to himself as he listens to the dragon's description. "She sounds like a very lovely dragon. Ah, and now I can see why you might like shades of brown for clothing. Green and brown match up well without overpowering each other." A little laugh escapes again at the mention of oil. "Well, they might like that you buy more because it keeps it selling after they already sold to the Weyr's quotas?" He gives a light nod and glances back to the flits.
"Thell isn't as sneaky with food, but she's a master of begging. She seems to treat it like a game sometimes, going back to the same people to see just how much food she can get out of them."

L'thor chuckled and nodded. "She is a lovely dragon, and yes, I do seem to be quite popular for all the oil I buy. I must do two or three times more favours for people at the Hold to earn myself marks to keep up with Raith's taste for being pampered. And my taste for indulging myself as well come to that." The myriad of ways in which he and his dragon matched, contrasted and reflected on another never ceased to amuse him, and to make him smile.
"Exactly as it should," Raith replied calmly.
"Dusk will do whatever he must to get hold of all the food he thinks he needs," L'thor went on. "River much prefers the blatant swoop and grab approach though. Not always my food he steals either," he said with a mischievous grin. "I don't see what people get so upset about when he pinches some of their dinner though; not like they can't ask for seconds or anything." He did love urging the little blue into targeting people he didn't like. Well, that or his closest friends. The perplexed frown on V'kain's face as a piece of meat he was about to spear vanished from under his nose never ceased to be amusing.

Kita grins lightly. Just as proud as the other riders seemed to be of their dragons, if not more so. "Well that helps to have fewer enemies then? Oh, but on your topic I realize I forgot to give a price for the shirt. It's not a difficult one, but the silk is more pricey so it would be about eight marks?" Hopefully it wasn't too much, though his master would surely try charging at least ten for it.
Kita can't help but grin at hearing the flits' antics around food. "It sounds as if they can make meal times more interesting then? Though, I think I prefer Thell begging than outright stealing from someone's plate. Though she's very fond of stealing the scraps left behind on a plate before it is thrown out."

L'thor pursed his lips thoughtfully before nodding; he supposed he could try haggling but he liked Kita and he had the marks so he saw no reason to go to the trouble today. "Yes, that sounds fair. Payment on collection is it, or half an half?" He never paid for anything unseen completely up front, much to the disgust of many traders he'd bought from at this gather or that gather. Usually they accepted his terms though; much though he might be a rider now most could still tell that he had once been one of them and that he wasn't to be taken in.
"Ah, but as for the food stealing, what can I say? I like a bit of cheap entertainment," he grinned. "Watching people try to catch him or swat him out of the air is really most diverting. It's quite funny when they come over to shout at me as well. They only end up making themselves look like fools." He did love to make his enemies look like fools. Far more satisfying to humiliate than to physically injure. For one he didn't get in trouble for it, which was a bonus, and for another it lasted much longer than a bruise would. People had very long memories for the embarrassment of others, he found. And then of course there was the fact that he was absolutely useless in a physical fight. Not that he ever mentioned that of course.
