"No, I don't think you're crazy" he repeated softly, but with a hint of amusement. Lively, yes, crazy? No, he thought.
He wondered how to describe why he was there and why he left so quickly without telling more than he should. More than would be fair. "I was passing by, just by chance, your mother was young and on her own like you are. I helped her and then... I went on my way." He hadn't wanted to be so close to a mother with her newborns, not then. Even now it still tugged at his heart, throbbing with pain when he thought of it.
"I... was going to meet up with someone." he said, lamely. He was a bad liar and averted his eyes away. He had met with someone soon thereafter but he had not known they were looking for him.

"Hmm..." Curiously, Kaila tilted her head. Her instinct told her he wasn't telling her as much as he knew. Perhaps not lying, but not telling her the whole truth. She pondered on this for a moment, before coming to the conclusion that it was probably none of her business anyway. Even if he had lied when he spoke of meeting up with someone, it was still none of her business.
"Well, I guess in a round about way I owe you some thanks," she stated in a good-natured tone. "If you helped my mother and my siblings, you have my gratitude!" She lowered her head in a, perhaps comical, bowing gesture. "Thank you-" then she lifted her head. "Hey, you never did tell me your name! I mean friends should know each others' names, right?"
Thoughtfully she then realised she'd made the irrational assumption that the two were friends. They weren't much more than acquiantences at the moment, but she didn't correct herself. She let her mistake stand.

Kalain was delighted with the girls' easy going and friendly manner, truth be told. He was never sure where he was at with those who were precious about their aquintances or untrusting of friendship - he considered all others as worthy of getting to know, even if they themselves did not, and did not like to have to step around people delicately just to be able to sit down and talk with them.
"My name is Kalain" Kai-ann, named for the one he communed with, the one who gave and took life and gave it again in the neverending cycle. A good choice, it had turned out, as he had come to be one of the devout. Perhaps, though, it was his name which caused the interest in the first place. Who knew?
"and you don't need to thank me, it's just what I do, as I said. I want to help".
The rain was beginning to get heavier now - thick droplets splashing through the trees all around them. "There are some caves nearby - a good walk from here but they'll be dry and out of the wind..." he left the thought open. He didn't want her to feel coerced to come with him just because they had been talking but his small frame and thick fur were getting sodding wet.

Kaila couldn't help but giggle as Kalain's fur got more and more water logged. He didn't seem like such a big wolf now, the water proving a lot of him seemed to just been fluff. It kind of endeared him to her, as she promptly agreed with him. She bearly wanted to think about what she looked like, getting to her feet. She felt water begin to run freely down her muzzle from between her ears. Uncomfortable, but part of her loved this kind of weather.
"A good walk," she repeated. "But how about a run?" She seemed to grin impishly, her tail wagging playfully, before she took off at a sprint in the direction her companion had indicated, her voice seeming to drift back through the rain.
"Race you!"
She had no idea where she was going, or what she would do if Kalain didn't follow her. The thought hadn't really crossed her mind, truth be told. It didn't matter though, she realised, as she loped through the droplets, feeling the mud squishing between her toes and the drops hitting her face. This was fun!

For a moment Kalain was somewhat flabbergasted - he was no pup and didn't often run for the joy of it. Still, her enthusiam had infected him and he had to admit that running, getting to the rocky, dry hollow faster, suited him much better than trudging through the drizzle.
He set off after her, trying to at least catch up and not embarass himself by slipping in the newly-formed mud!
He was glad he had bumped into her, was glad of her company and, despite the fact that the confident young female didn't really need his help, as such, he felt good for having been company to her. Finding out that the mother whose litter he had helped into the world was still well, too, had been a relief and somewhat of a weight off of his mind.
Despite the drizzling, dripping, dreary day, things were looking good.

She could feel the rain blowing past her as she powered onwards. The mud flicked up, dotting her coat with dirty splats. She also managed to slip in the mud more than once. By the time she spotted the rocky opening she looked more like mud monster than wolf. She hesitated, gaining her bearings as she looked about, taking a second to try and shake some of the mud out of her coat and glance back to check she hadn't lost Kalain.
Loping up a small, steep slope, she found herself inside the cave. She paused, looking about, and sniffed at the air as she stepped carefully inside. There was a smell in here she couldn't quite identify... Something odd... Hmm...
She turned back to face out of the cave and called out to her companion in amusement. "Hurry up!"
