He had no idea how oddly twisted her view points were, mud was most certainly more terrifying than lightning for the simple reason that one made her uncomfortable and the second granted her reprieve from her greatest fear - the dark. Suffice to say it was she who couldn't understand the fear of lightning when it came down to the very core of the issue, it caused even the night sky to glisten with light and was a rather beautiful (if dramatic) scene... whereas mud? Well, that coated her completely and made the wiley tendrils of fur around her hooves stick together; to make matters worse it wasn't always easy to get off again either. Thus she simply released a small chuckle at his comment and lack of comprehension, they really were from two different worlds!

"Well," she pointed out at last, ensuring her pace remained even with his even if she did slow here and there to avoid the odd slippery area on the ground. "Mud is more awkward than lightning, it can be really hard to get off and sometimes it smells like something has died in it," she confessed with mock horror. Recovering from her own shock revelation she continued along in silence for a short while before quirking a brow at what some would have regarded as a veiled insult; did he find her tail distracting? She knew from experience that this could be a good or bad thing but she was curious as to which category he fell into. Would he be one who considered it a meal (unlikely) or one who found it hypnotic? Alas he didn't seem terribly entranced right now, merely curious.

Shame.

"I prefer the term 'expressive', thank you very much..." She pointed out loftily and offered another of her smiles, pausing briefly to examine her own swaying tail before bursting into a very brief trot to catch up to him. 'Pampered' she may have been but she was a wanderer herself and could appreciate a decent pace; particularly when her legs needed a good stretch. "But..." She lulled into silence for a few moments and shook her head, brushing the braids from her eyes as she considered his question, it was a terribly puzzling one.

"Why in the world would it bother me?" she asked at last, if only for clarification.

Eh? The stallion allowed for his head to slightly peek back at the other, perplexed by her chuckle. Just what was so amusing for this odd mare? Was it a female thing...an Uni thing even? Thankfully she decided to explain herself soon after. Then he couldn't help a chuckle of his own, even if it held a different tone. Skepticism, perhaps. " Well, maybe somethings have died in the mud? Sides' it's an awkwardness easily passed if cleaned off then. But fr' the lightnin? No time to feel anything but stink like the dead."

How was that for putting things in perspective? But pft....what voice was he since he was the one running to said dangers? Manjii' decided that was a small detail he didn't have to admit. Cough.

He turned his sights back forward as the mare was dazzled by her own tail. How such a limb could be expressive was beyond him. Nothing more than a fly swatter, right? Catching up soon enough, the male nodded as he saw the shimmering form once more beside him. It felt good not to have to temper his natural pace for another, that much he could admit to himself.

"Well, ye sound bothered enough already?" He shrugged mid-stride. "Or p'haps I'm just saying it out of courtesy. I nay have a straight answer." He huffed, having not expecting his question to be answered with another question...

"Mmmm..." She wasn't entirely sure of a polite way to respond to his observation, nor was she certain of whether or not it was appropriate to point out that he was technically running right into the danger. In her mind the lightning was still more desirable than the mud, as fiercesome as it may be to some for her it was a blessing. It had yet to strike her and lit up the sky to the point that she didn't have to fear the dark. She could cuddle into a ball and marvel at the glory of the nightsky as the lightning lit it up and graced her with such a dramatic display. It was something she could certain grow to love if such displays were more frequent but she was no storm chases and so it was a novelty to her.

"I still think the mud is a worse deal," she said at last. Her tone remained wistful and she bopped at his sideburns lightly with her tail as she drifted along beside him. "If I am to perish I would sooner not do it smelling like someone else," she pointed out wisely, caring not to mention that she would probably smell like a barbequed pig if she got struck as it were. It wasn't a pleasant thought and she had had more than her fair share of near misses so it was significantly easier to cast such a thing aside. It was so morose and she didn't enjoy such things.

"But I do apologise if I sounded bothered, really I'm not!" She cleared her throat and popped her equine lips as she progressed on in silence for a few moments before raising a brow. Her expression wasn't so much sheepish as a cross between genuinity and teasing, "I was merely making conversation you know, you have an interesting hobby and I want to know more. Although I suppose I probably didn't address the question in the right way, nyah?"

Mares. He'd never understand them, even if he did have plenty as siblings. They were all different, as this current one was being a prime example of. So deciding that he'd like to keep his sanity for the moment, the male held his tongue and opinions quiet. Honestly, what was the point but frequent sighs and possible headaches?

Now that had been his train of thought, until something unknown happened. A blur made swift way into his vision before a stinging tickle swatted at his face unexpectedly. Heavy hooves faltered as he leaned away from the 'attack', a grunting snort of surprise escaping his lungs. What was that?! Was that from her....her blasted tail?? It felt as if the side of his jaw went numb. Brows furrowed as he shook his head, ragged mane swishing to and fro. All this slowing his pace to a stern walk. It was a wonder he could hear anything being said by the chirpy mare following along.

"Fine! Fine, aye get it. No smell'n mud for today." His nose quirked once more from the tickling, before glancing at the Uni. It was odd to hear her call his hobby so 'interesting' yet still be able to nit pick so many details. "Hn, I think I'm learning more if I must be saying." By the earful, mostly. "Just be lett'n the spirits answer ye question..." He blinked and hushed as the soft patter of raindrops could be felt finally. They were scarce and cold, but the clouds overhead looked promising.

Aha! There was something to be said for the moments when the mare trumped a stallion. True to form, Sparkles had managed to shock her poor victim with the slightest of gestures. It was innocent of course, teasing by nature and purely experimental but it had brought the results she had anticipated. Stubborn and distant as he was, the gruff stallion hadn't reacted with hostility but was certainly surprised by the contact. Did this mean he was one of the innocent? Her brow crinkled ever so slightly as she dwelled on this possibility for a brief moment before giggling. Oooooh, it did seem that the gruff once were less familiar with the charms and pleasures of a mare but it did make for an interesting evening on occasions.

Despite these musing she wasn't permitted long to consider them as the heavens slowly began to open and the droplets of water cast down upon her shimmering form. The patter of water was largely unnoticable on her flanks at first, the tell tale shower only recognised by the drop or two that batted at her nose. However as they continued on and she was guided down the trail by this gruff stallion the changing weather became more apparent and the chill of the water much more extreme. Something inside her mind clouded at this, a little thunderstorm of it's own rising above her ears as the rain grew heavier and marred her usually pristine complexion.

...He liked this.

It was cold, wet and if they went any further up the slope she'd be miserable! She was baffled, to say the least.

"Well it's certainly," she paused to consider the appropriate words as her heavy forelock flopped against her eyes. A snort to move it out of her vision and she continued. "Different?" she offered at last.

Observing eyes went oblivious as the pale stallion continued to smooth down his cheek, the insistent tingling feeling not leaving. Why the whiskers!? Come on Manj, pull yaself together! His father never seemed bothered by a touch to the same hairs, so why him? The male mumbled to himself, wishing he had the cleaner features of his youth like his luckier siblings. Sending a half hearted glare to the girl's chuckling, the stallion mumbled once more before some more drops fell on his pelt.

And it was enough of a drug to put him at ease. Eyes slid shut as the male seethed out a sigh, releasing any tensions he'd been holding in. Shoulders visibly relaxed and his front leg gave a reminding quiver as it went still for a pause. It wasn't alot of rain, but it was just enough to be like a soothing balm. The soft words of a caring mother. Or the refreshing smell of minty grass in the air. All the things Jumanjii' quietly preferred.

"Nhn." Was it really all that different? Must be for those how admittedly avoided them like a plague. Though for as much as Manjii' lingered in the deep woodlands, this spectacle was simply too much for anyone to ignore. In his opinion that is.

"It makes one different, if one simply acknowledges it." He finally reopened his eyes, them being much lighter and softer than before. Flicking his tail, he turned to the other with an amused grin. "Already annoyed with it? If ye like we can turn back now, I've already received enough."

"Oh I'm not annoyed yet," Sparkles smiled wryly. She was genuine in her statement as well, the rain hadn't yet soaked into her skin and it wasn't heavy enough to make her sore. If it grew anymore forceful her opinion may shift but the light sprinkling on her coat and the occasional 'bop' to her nose could be tolerated for the sake of some social interaction and what she would consider to be an educational experience. Alright, so she didn't really understand the appeal of getting soaked by rain in this manner when bathing was much more comfortable but everyone got their kicks from somewhere even if they didn't make sense to an outsider.

"Wet and a little cold, but that doesn't mean I'm grumpy!" Her smile deepened and she flicked her tail briefly against her rump to shoo and itch from it. "I may look pampered but I'm open to new experiences like the best of 'em! Soooo..." she paused and tilted her head to the side expectantly. "If you have another place you'd like to show me or you intend to walk a little further then by all means lead the way. I can go for a little while longer yet," she announced. Confident as always, she puffed up her chest and gave a little strut towards him.

Luckily for him she hadn't quite decided to stroke him with her tail again but now that she knew of the reaction (and it's entertainment value) it wasn't unlikely that she would miss the opportunity again at some point. Ah but to be a minx; if she was going to get a little wet she might as well make it fun for her as well. Perhaps the stallion may even learn from it too!

The stallion chuckled quietly, letting the sound flow lightheartedly. "No, I suppose not. Though I will admit, being cold can put me in the foulest of moods." He frowned as he focused half-heartedly at a drop of rain hanging at the end of his hair. It reminded him of icicles, those icicles beside the lake. But that was long ago, and with a swift shake of his head Jumanjii' banished those unwanted thoughts. "Aye? Ya sure whined like a pampered soquili, unless that is a purely mare thing to do. Do tell, is that a natural ailment to being a female?" Ice eyes turned to her, honest despite knowing the crude humor to his curiosity.

"But I digress." Jumanjii' shrugged with a grin before flicking his tail and glancing his surroundings. "We best keep moving, or our hooves be sunken in the wet ground. Come on then." He nodded deeper in the cloud range, towards the darker clouds. "I nay see the lightning strikes yet, so we can tread more to the mountain range. It's not far from the shallow slopes, and there ya can even find scars deep in the rocky sides. Almost like those 'teepee' things the humans hide in." Not quite a cave, but just enough to duck under and claim some dry ground. No way he was leaving the scene yet!

This time the male took a wider girth to his step, keeping his neck tilted almost painfully constant to keep a narrowed glance on that blasted tail of hers. "N' keep ye limbs ta yeself if ya don't mind. Else I will make it a point to splatter mud on ya." Childish and boyish, perhaps. But Manjii' was determined.

Oho so he did have a sense of humour? She tweaked on to this quickly as he spoke and arched a brow at his laughter. Really, his features became even more handsome when he laughed. If she knew any of his other female friends she would have spent the entire duration of her visit making him smile, he was certainly much more appealing. Oh, don't get her wrong she enjoyed the gruff and almost Mr Darcy-esque behaviour on occasions but there was something to be said for a chiselled face morphing into something of such beauty. Suffice to say, she was well aware of how to admire another's form and it wasn't difficult to do when they lightened up.

Nevertheless his query was something she would justify with an answer and she lightly tapped he tail against her leg as she followed him. "Oh yes, I suspect we are all born with that within our natures," she replied loftily. "It is always good to have someone vocal around, sometimes they will speak up when necessary while others would hide under rocks. Whiny or not we definitely have our uses," she grinned at this and quickened her pace to account for his increased stride.

His change in pace as well as stance had not gone unnoticed. Her grin quickly shifted into a sly smile that became even worse as he told her off. She'd never shied away from a challenge in her life and this was definitely a challenge. Now that she was aware that the physical contact did more than rile him up (and not in a bad way) the threat of a little bit of mud on her gorgeous coat would not deter her. Really, he needed to be more careful when he spoke.

"I say...Is that a challenge?" she enquired curiously.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:25 pm

Wow, he hadn't been expecting a reply, let alone an honest and eager answer to his question. Needless to say it left him with a pause in his responses, his mind quietly logging away this almost intimate secret to the minds of females. As far as it always being good though.... Manjii' shrugged. "Ya be implying that mares are the most reliable speakers? The best 'chatty kathy' perhaps, but everyone be having the ride to turn an' hide too."

The male opted to avoid the whiny detail mentioned by Sparkles as they continued their adventure. Heck, if she could admit it then why deny or boast more upon it? Leaving well enough alone, the soquili turned eyes up to the mess of clouds above and ears pressed forward as booming could be heard suddenly and fiercely. It brought a tempting grin to his face, just to be in the thrilling presence of it all, and beckoned an unheard whisper of gratitude to the spirits allowing this day.

He noticed though, with a tilt of his head and a quirk of a brow, that his own grin was nearly matched by the unicorn trailing him. "Oy, what's with that look?" His hooves slowed to a stop so as to hear the reasoning, or complaints, the other may have to spill. And when she revealed the cause to her own smile, Manjii bristled his lengthy mane with a scoff.

"What else would ye take it as? Ya don't see me pestering your braids or nippin' your oddity of a tail. So no....it's nay a challenge but a mere warning." Hell it was a polite enough gesture in the stallion's book, compared to how he was raised!

Ooooh, he'd given her a warning!

In her opinion this was even better than a challenge, in essence he was doing his best to maintain his composure with a veiled threat that she genuinely didn't believe he would dish out. Gruff he may have seemed but he gave off an air of something more, she wouldn't called him gentle perse, but she certainly wouldn't accuse him of using unnecessary force either. Perhaps she provided him with too much credit but she wasn't one who had a complete understanding of her own personal safety - she just had elements of it. Therefore it should have come at no surprise that she quirked a brow at his 'warning'...

"Ooooh you wound us with your words!" She cooed dramatically, drawing her tail to her cheek and nuzzling it gently. It was as though she was pointing out that her tail had a personality of its own. On purpose she drooped it, getting the fluffy tip to nod in an almost sad fashion before pulling her own pained expression. Her eyes became wide with innocence and she released a sigh. "To think he called us an oddity! All we ever did was show our appreciation!" She wailed.

Here she paused, listening to the rumbling above her head for a few moments. It gave her enough time to muse over her own train of thought - what was the best way forward.

The direct way of course.

"And to think he would react so horribly to something he clearly likes, that tender touch of a mare who is very much inclined towards his rugged and finely tuned body," she gave another of her sighs and murmured a few words along the lines of 'shame, shame' before letting the subject drop. Let him ponder those words for a short while before she began to torture him again. Evidently this trip was going to be an entertaining one, she should have really given him more credit for suggesting such a thing!

Well this just turned from an exasperating meeting to a pure oddity for the male!

And yet Manjii' couldn't turn his eyes away from the scene, utterly perplexed by the display of the unicorn nuzzling her tail tuft. As if it was some dear.....squirrely friend or something that she couldn't help talk about. Muzzle stretching in an almost frown, the stallion glanced to his own heavy tail. Pft, as if there was any use or thought of him finding it to make good conversation.

"Woah, woah now. Stop this insanity!" He marched up to the faux purity, while mentally deciding that Unicorns were not as up to their image of perfection as he'd been told. Not if they went around chattering with their limbs all the time. It was at this point that he grew unaware of the rain drops pitter-pattering around them; instead his eyes focused grimly to the....duo before him. Then he nosed towards the bobbing tail. "You, get back to the ground where ye belong. And you," he turned back to face Sparkles herself, "yer appreciation is well accepted, but poorly announced."

A bit rude on his end? Maybe, but the male was already having a hard enough time with his thoughts to not think of how the words sounded.

Breathing some warm wisps of air from his nostrils, he leaned back while turning his head away. In all honesty he was becoming embarrassed himself by her ever bold words, though his own confusions left his the skin of his cheeks untouched by such shyness. He knew of the fleeting or teasing games of emotions that were capable between males and females. Though if her 'inclinations' were lent only to what she could see, well, he found such games short lived.

Sighing to himself, Manjii' pawed the ground in his conflicts. What had he agreed to, letting company join him on his spiritual journey? "Perhaps the worst threat I could deliver to ye is that I shouldn't have brought you along." And he hushed for a moment, as if overlooking his previous decision. Then he glanced over again. "A shame, to think I'd have to wound you to make you hear me clearly." And he'd never want to do so, should he be able to avoid it.

No - No - No...

He had just spoken to her tail!

At first the mare couldn't decide if he was playing along or if he genuinely believed that her tail had a mind of it's own. Alternatively, he could have come to the conclusion (like many others) that she was completely bonkers. She wouldn't deny that this wasn't a reasonable assumption even if it was inaccurate, but it did make things terribly amusing. In one fell swoop the male had confirmed that he did have a sense of humour to a degree; even if he did seem to be catering to her 'insanity'. Never one to turn away an opportunity the mare regarded him for a few moments after he had chastised her tail and then very deliberately, turned to face it. She twisted her tail round just a little as though its face, had also turned to face her.

Yes, she exchanged a 'glance' with her tail.

"It has been confirmed," she began loftily, her chest puffing out as she returned her pink gaze to the stallion. "That you have wounded us very deeply with your words," she chastised. Adopting an imperial tone, she gave her tail a wave before promptly bopping his nose with the tip again. "My companion demands that you apologise to her for such disrespect - the ground is not where she belongs!"

"And I on a personal note," she gave a sniff and raised a brow. Unsurprisingly her eyes seemed to gleam with mischief as she revelled in the opportunity to 'torture' the poor male. "My compliments are never poorly announced, they are catered to the individual so that they are prepared to receive them!" She gave a small 'humph' and bopped him once more before beginning to strut ahead once again. "And as you can see you DID accept them!"

"So do not deny that you appreciate my company - I make things interesting," she called out wistfully as she pottered off.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 20, 2009 2:11 pm

No no no!

She had totally....wait, what did she just do?

Manjii' stood dead still, though his wide eyes and gaping mouth left no doubt to his stunned state. Firstly, the mare had completely disregarded his intolerance of the fluffy tail. In fact, she had even comforted the limb with praising words while swatting the stallion across the nose. Swatting his face! The very idea of such an act was quickly filed as an attack in his mind. But she wasn't fighting him. And it was a mare to boot. Those facts alone held his gruff instinct at bay to leave him instead in a stupor.

And that tone of voice? Was this a different mare? Was she....bipolar? Blinking his eyes (as they had dried from staring too long) Manjii' twisted his neck to observe the retreating unicorn. No, that couldn't be it as she was still holding close company to that damned tail. It almost made Manjii' feel belittled and ignored....as if his own ego wasn't already battered by the tail swipes.

Gritting his teeth, the boy did something he'd think and chastise over later. He stomped after the Unicorn. "Oy. Oy!" He continued his stubborn yelling until he was at even pace with her, neck to neck. "Ye must be absurdly crazy to think I'd be honoring respects 'n apologies to ya tail." The male shook out his mane in his rebutting, like a child on the brink of tantrum. But the strands were soaked through completely and only plastered back to his fur. "And ye catering was way off mark then. Do you assume to know me so well that soon?" Impossible! Manjii' liked to think himself well veiled and composed, even to the point that he could boast his own mentor's ignorance of his character.

"Fine, I accepted them begrudgingly. And be well proud to know your presence has only afforded me a headache!" At this point the male slowed his walk, turning his head to the sky as if the raindrops could smooth away his complaining skull.

Annoying woman.

I win!

The sing song voice chimed merrily in her mind as the stallion came storming after her. Maintaining her composure, she turned her rose eyes to observe the stallion as he chastised her. Admittedly, he needed to work on his skills when it came to telling a mare off, the more flustered he got the more adorable and the overall affect probably wasn't what he would have wanted. That being said she did humour him enough to nod slowly as he spoke until he had finally finished and turned his eyes skywards in silent prayer. Well, it looked like silent prayer from her angle.

How rude!

Lifting a brow, the mare continued to observe the stallion for a few moments before closing the gap between herself and him. It was just as well she was a reasonably sized mare, it made reaching his ear much easier. "But you still accepted them," she whispered and clucked her tongue, "One so stubborn as you will never accept a compliment willingly - therefore your begrudging acceptance is what I catered for." She cooed once more. Lulling into silence she snorted a little in his ear before smacking a very big, wet lick on his cheek.

...She made her escape while she still could.

"Oh ho ho ho!" With a small chuckle of triumph she promptly began to trot away at a much quicker pace than her strut before and left him to his stupor. She suspected that little move would get her a bit more than just a chastising remark and if she was lucky, his head my explode from frustration before he reached her!
