A'k grinned wildly, "Really!? Wow! No one ever wants to help me... the prjects can be kind of gross though, so I hope you don't mind that." He warned her, knowing that sometimes he lost friends over his more... creative projects.

"I bet we can do that! Come on, let's go and find out!" A'kigeni grinned, running back over to the dead rabbit, "I've heard that most creatures eat rabbits... I wanna find out what the difference is between them and lions."

Pilates ears wrung with the word lions, but didn't question it. She wasn't sure why the cub had just compared the rabbit to a lion.

"Well rabbits are easy prey to catch I suppose, " She was holding her breath slightly but not in a way that it was highly noticeable. "Rabbit's also can't really fight back. Its a good quick meal if your lucky enough to find one and unable to kill larger prey. " She was referring now to her own experience. A rabbit was a great meal for sure but they weren't as common as avian prey or reptile, but they were common enough to have every once in a while. The damn things seemed to pop up quick though and disappear if you werent fast to the kill.

"What do you think doctor?"

A'k tilted his head thoughtfully, "So... you eat rabbits then. Yes, that makes quite a bit of sense when you think about it..." He nodded eccentricly, wandering back over to the dead rabbit and opening up what he had been doing once again.

"Honestly, my mother and father insist we hunt only the largest and most deadly prey... but from what I have witnessed with my two paws, this makes very little sense. Other animals are less likely to fight back, and taste just as good, you see... and as you have proven, other creatures find them quite tasty." A'k explained, looking thoughtfully down at the creature he had found.

"Pilate, I believe you have helped me to make the first breakthrough in my research."

Pilate couldn't help but smile happily at the other, but quickly closed her mouth again tasting the foul order. It was quite an unpleasant taste.

"I'm glad," Her voice choked a little from the foulness of the rotting rabbit but she played it off like she had something stuck in her throat. This cub seemed nice enough, odd, but not evil.

"Larger prey? Do they enjoy the sport of the kill?" The cub only asked because she was finding that she enjoyed hunting.

"Oh no... my father simply hates lions, or anything non-leopard really, but mostly lions. He doesn't do it for the sport." A'k tried his best to explain, though his father's reasoning had always sort of... eluded him. "That, and he seems to love the taste of it." Though he personally didn't really understand why.

"He got my mother hooked on it. But she's autophobic... afraid of being alone, so she'll do almost anything just to make sure that she stays with other peope. Dad says it's better... now that my brothers and I are around." He felt sorry for his mother. He would have hated to be trapped by the need of having other people...

...and his mother clung to them so very desperatly.

Pilate made a face she couldn't help and couldn't hide. It was a face of horror, and amazement spreading across her usually blank face, all at the same time. Hatred, a feeling so far away from this cub that the very thought of it made her feel alien.

"Thats.." She liked this cub but the wrongness of killing a fellow feline was unreal. So unreal she was still having trouble imagining such a deed out of nothing more then pure hatred, "Thats not right!" Her chest puffed a little, she liked this cub but automatically did not care for his mother or father. "Lions are no different from me or you, you know that? They just have silly fur that grows round their faces and are stronger, sure. But but, thats just not right! That would be like killing one of your selves." Her ears lowered some and she paced about. Feeling sick, not for the smell now, but for the new confusion twirling round her small head.

"I know its not your fault.. your parents aren't like that for your sake. I shouldn't have over reacted. Its just.. I know alot of lions... infact you could say I grew up with lions." Her sorrow filled eyes rested softly on her new friend. She hoped he wouldn't hate her for what she just erupted on. Pilate still had alot in the world she just didn't understand. Her soul being pretty innocent.

A'kigeni's ears flattened to his head when she spoke to him. He didn't like getting yelled at, and frankly he had enough of that from his father whenever he got caught leaving his mother alone for too long. He had thought Pilate was nice... understanding. What she said hurt him. He didn't like it at all.

"Sorry." He said bluntly, looking away even though she had said she didn't mean to snap at him. "It's just what we do. It's not like I hate lions or anything... I didn't even know it was weird for us not to. Daddy told us that they're killers... I knew that it was weird for us to eat them... but if mom says it's alright..." His mother. His poor mother, stuck with someone who only liked to have her around because she couldn't leave him. A'k didn't hate his father... but sometimes he wondered why he really kept his mother around. Because he loved her, like she loved him, or because he thought he owned her and could make her do whatever he wanted?

He looked up at her, speaking meaningfully, "You should think before you say such mean things. You grew up with lions?" He looked down at the rabbit, "My mother tells us to be nice to little animals like this, because lions and other creatures are always killing them when they can't fight back. And that makes them more natural to be prey. How many of them do you think lost their families!?" He asked, getting mad, "So don't yell at me, because you don't know everything!"

The green cheetah's eyes narrowed at her paws. She was angry too but not at the cub who was explaining his logic but at the parents. She looked back up at him, trying to drain the anger from her eyes. She wanted to cry in all honesty but she instead she stood there with a fierceness she'd never felt.

"If we didn't eat the rabbits of this land then what would.." The cub took a breath, "They'd out breed us and turn all the green into a dessert. All life is balanced I suppose..." Her pink eyes looked down, "I m sorry I snapped. You have a point, but it hurts to think of my friends hunted down for nothing more then hatred and venomous revenge. I don't hunt rabbits and other creatures for that reason, I hunt so I can live on..." She looked up at the other a more neutral look in her eyes. She was sorry for the cub, "But I don't hate you for it. I can't." Her soft pink eyes wandered back down to her paws. She was sure this cub wasn't so found of her now.

The little leopard let out a small sigh, managing to calm himself down. She looked so... sad. He didn't want that. He hated it when anyone was sad. It reminded him of how his mom looked when she was afraid that their father would go out some day, and not come back for them. She didn't need to be afraid or sad... and Pilate didn't either.

"Well, nothing eats lions either." He told her, "I understand why everything needs to eat... but you shouldn't judge creatures on what their parents are like. My brother is friends with lots of little animals like rabbits, I know he would be sad if you ate his friends. And you would be sad if we ate yours. So... I guess it's no one's fault. I don't... I don't want to eat you though. You're nice, and you care about animals, and you didn't run away even though I'm creepy... so please don't be sad." He tried his best to explain, suddenly feeling a little like crying himself.

Pilate looked up and smiled. He was right, she had been judgemental.

"Your not creepy, " The Cheetah tilted her head at him and giggled, "Your just a complex creature. Nothing wrong with that, doctor." The young cheetah sat down and stared at him with her pink eyes for a short while. A smile rested softly on her maw. "Your right after all, I m sorry. I guess I never thought of it that way."

Pilate got back up and trotted in a circle around the leopard and stopped infront of the rotting rabbit, " I'm not sure what killed this rabbit and left it intact but I'm sure it had friends and family too. We should remember it for that and hope its soul finds peace and be thankful for the knowledge its taught us."

A'k looked up at her, the very sweetest look on his face as he sniffed back the oncoming tears. He had always been a bit of a crybaby, and he had been trying his best to learn new things. "Really? You don't think I'm creepy?" He asked her, his blue eyes huge as a smile crept back onto his face, "Pilate... you're a good friend, you know that, right?"

A'k nodded, glad that Pilate understood, "Yeah... I think that every creature deserves some respect, especially once they're gone... because they had parents and a family and lots of people who cared about them! I know I'd want my parents to know I didn't die in vein, if I did die." He explained.

Actually... he'd rather like it if his mother never found out if he died. She would completely flip out and never let his brothers out of her sight ever again. And he didn't wish that on any of them.

Pilate couldn't help it. She rubbed her head to his in comfort seeing him sniff back tears. She was glad the two had come to an understanding.

"I'm sure they would be pleased to hear that," The fact that he didn't want his parents to know if he died had gone over her head. Pilate didn't know his family, and after hearing about his father, still was uncertain she wanted to meet them. For one, she liked to be alive.

"We should probably let this rabbit become part of nature in peace." Was all she said, "I think its done a great job providing us with what it had to offer," The cheetah smiled. Part of her thought it was a shame it was so rancid, other wise they could have also eaten it. There was a time where she would have eaten it any ways.

A'k nodded and smiled at her, "You're right. I think we've learned all we can from the rabbit Pilate. Thanks so much for your help! You've taught me a lot more than I thought I could learn out here today! I do hope I get to meet you again some day." He told her honestly.

"I should probably go home now though..." He mentioned, looking up at the sun. Now that he was thinking about his mother... she would probably be worrying about him around now. And if he got back after his father... then there would probably be hell to pay.

"I was very pleased to meet you. And thank you for being so good." He told her, grinning, "You will always have a friend in A'kigeni! The Doctor! Or maybe... Dr. A'kigeni!" He laughed, liking the sound of that quite a bit. "I'll see you around Pilate! Good luck with your journey!" He told her, before he went to skip off back home, where he was sure his mother would meet him.
