Another grunt, this time of affirmation. "Getting warmer. Bad times, bad scents on the wind," Dover murmured, and only a flick of his ears recognized outwardly that he had heard Gaspard's appreciation. "N'wonder you look for numbers. Packs. Safety." The fish bones were too close for his liking still; he knocked them away further and then stood up.
"If you'd like a guide through this strange new land I suppose I could in fact lend you a hand Though enough of that look I'm certainly no crook Just hard to understand."
He decided he might as well offer these two some semblance of hospitality after the meager meal, and then Dover wondered just what he was coming to these days. But it gave him something to do, and he did need to brush up on the geography of Telk every now and then. Never good to forget who was friendly and where.

The bright wolves struggled with his offer. On one hand, it would be nice to have a local show them around, show them where it was safe... But did they really want to travel with an admitted mercenary? Would he expect something in return? They both had similar suspicions... Gaspard through is cowardly fear and Laera through her lingering temper.
Laera gave him a sideways look, her eyes cold. "Why do you want to help us now?" She stood up fully now, facing Dover. It was a move that made Gaspard cringe as if he'd been struck. "We need help, but if we will be indebted to you in any way for it, we will just be on our way." The femme turned and started to walk away from him, towards the forest. Let Dover do as he wishes. If he followed so be it, but she didn't want to stand around talking about it. With a swallow Gaspard followed after her, glancing over his shoulder once or twice.

Dover made no movement to follow either of them, amber eyes steadily following the siblings' movement to the . . . northwest, yes, the direction was northwest - where the trees grew gnarled and darker, more forboding, aged. "S'the territ'ry of the Reign of Terror pack," he called to them suddenly, and there wasn't a hint of any annoyance with Laera's still simmering comments. "Reign of Terror. Nasty business if you've got itchy paws." Home of the Goblin King, the not-so-nameless terror called Chernabog and his rather fond-of-a**-kissing cronies. While Dover had no care of their personal life, it wasn't good protocol to let wolves run to their own deaths unknowingly when he was conscious of it.

Reign of Terror. You'd have to be one stupid wolf not to stop and pay attention to such a name. Laera turned around, glancing at Gaspard as he swallowed in fear. Her expression might have softened just a little as her eyes trailed to look at Dover. Wandering into a territory could be avoided if one caught the scent markers of the pack border quickly enough, but she would rather not go near an unfriendly one at all. What if they accidentally ran into a patrol, or a group returning from a scouting trip? Even if she could fight her way free, there was no way Gaspard could. Laera didn't want to imagine what they would do to a wolf like him.
"Thanks for warning us," she started slowly, then somewhat reluctantly added, "Maybe we could use your help after all." It was as close to an apology as Laera would get. The thought of Gaspard in trouble made her want the help now, when they had almost traveled into danger.
Gaspard's ear seemed to p***k up. Traveling with one wolf he didn't quite trust was much better than running into a pack of hostiles. He even let his tail wag just a little.

"Tch." There was a great roll of his shoulders as he shrugged off Laera's somewhat compliment. Never been big on those anyway. Dover figured it was time to shove off; he'd already felt it in his paws that he had stayed in the area long enough for the day, nice and shady as it was.
"Many warnings you'll get But for pardons, not so. Keep away from north and east, or woe To you. Now go!"
The earthen wolf indicated with his muzzle in the direction the sun was fleeing.
"Westward to where Akiiki Chibale resides Is a safer den than most for your hides. Or from there move north to Agua Azul. Any further from there is only for a fool.
"Humans," he explained as a monosyballic after thought, and with that turned about and began to head south, following the sounds of the river to lead hi mto his next destination: and hopefully his next meal. Nothing said so much of a goodbye than a quick twitch of his tail once the wolf's back was to them. |~| *realized belatedly that, at their current position with the river, it'd actually be northeast instead of northwest*
*fails, yes, especially with directions; may have done so again with the sun part even*
Should be my last post otherwise~ <3 ^^; |~|

Laera took note of the directions and his suggestion to go west, nodding as Dover talked. She muttered a few thank yous as she contemplated their next move but Dover was on his way already; it was not certain if he had heard her. She looked after him though he was out of sight already, listening to the quiet, calm sounds of the forest at rest. It really was a beautiful place.
"Well, that's that, I guess," she said eventually, turning to Gaspard. "Shall we be off too?"
The male's reply was a mild wag of his tail. Laera smiled a little, pointed herself west, and started to walk.
