After allowing a situation like that to occur, surely your guild (or its officers, whoever) would take a step back, look at their loot rules, and try to change them. If they dont, they are surely just inviting something like that to happen again.
You would think so, right? There was some talk about it amongst the officers in the last guild meeting, however I don't think any solution to the matter was found. All we can really do is wait until this sort of thing happens again to see if anything has really been resolved.

That doesnt sound like the kind of guild Id want to be in. "They talked and MAYBE it was resolved and maybe it wasnt. We'll just have to wait it out for another alt to -maybe- steal an item, maybe not. ITS COOL. I DONT CARE ABOUT MY EPIX"

All it would take is a forum post saying, "we're not going to let X happen again. If situation X occurs then we will do Y instead" Done. Rule changed. Everyone happy and no strange mystery about alts and loot rules. If your GM/officers cant be bothered to do that, then they should not be GM/officers.
Now you know why I'm applying for other guilds on my server. confused

My guild has started talking about this recently. Our council is torn.

It seems to come down to two sides at the moment. Those in the council who see how fun it is bringing alts to a raid, keeping it interesting for the party bringing alts.
There's the other side who says that bringing alts is slowing raids, and therefore shouldn't happen.

Personal opinions would be easier if they were all identical.

kinda sorta, people get bitchy about it.

Someone asked our GM to switch her main to her priest, and one of the officers flipped his s**t when her DKP switched characters and got the gboot.

We -rarely- allow alts in raids, or 'out of guild members', but we have a rule in our EP/GP system to make loot fair for them

First of all, there is 3 ways to distrubte gear before sharding it:

1. Bid. Main spec/main raider. Minum EP to bid must be 1.5k
2. Off Roll. Main spec/alt raider/guest.
3. Off-Spec roll. Main Radier/off spec/Alt raider/guest.
4. Shard.

BOE gear is NOT allowed to be off spec'd or for alts/guests. This goes for phat monies on the AH and caculates to guild repair funds (Which is scaled to how much gold the guildbank has, going up 5g for ever 1k we have in there. So donations effect repair, yay for carrots on sticks!).

If you do go to raid on an alt character, you gain raid EP for your main. You do not bid on gear, just wait for off roll. You may only come on your alt if we need you. Some of our healers have DPS alts that we often allow them to switch to because of the abudance of preists. However some folks just respec.

Respecing in our guild, unless asked by the guild, resets your EP if you wish for it to become your 'main spec'. This protects people who stay with their main spec to get gear that they have earned. IE: Holy paladin goes ret for their main spec, rogues/warriors/hunters/enhancment shamans are protected for having a higher PR over rings/trinkets/neck peices. The paladin would have to earn 1.5k EP in order to bid, or wait for the roll system to come into place. However you do not get a reset if it is A) temporary, B) Asked by guild or C) Non-raid build (IE: Respecing to PVP then going back before raid).

EP is earned by attending raids, boss kills, progression boss kills, donations, and stand bys. Recurring EP happens ever 30 minuets, and ending EP/early EP is rewarded as well.

If you are on stand by and do not let an officer know you move to an alt, you don't get standby EP (1/3 the amount of EP earned by raiders attending). This prevents people from getting free EP basicly..

Ummm....

But these rules only apply for 25-mans. Our 10mans are for the LULZ and we take who ever/whatever as long as it works, and the 10mans are member ran, not nessisarly officer govern (so raid leaders rules basicly). We encourage people to use /roll systems with mainspecs first/off spec seconds. But hey, s**t happens and the DK walks out with 2 sets of gear sometimes.

My guild actually does a 25man naxx alt run on mondays. since we only currently raid two days a week. (full naxx on wed and then Maly and Obs3d on thursday) its very fun and relaxing to be able to raid naxx on my hunter and gear her up smile
Some of our people have even switched their mains, thanks to the alt run^^

In my guild you can sign up your 80 character's on group calendar but if your alt is not needed then it does not go. But we do say gear goes to mains over alts.

Yume wo mite Namida shite Kizutsuite mo . . .
My guild allows alts on any instance on "farm status." Alts were being taken to 10 mans really quickly, and the officers just started allowing them on 25 mans.

The thing is, one of the main officers said it'd only be a couple alts at a time, and the funny thing was that for the first month or so of that the only alts who came in were alts of the officers. Fortunately now they're letting in one or two other people, too.

After a certain point of time people are going to have to be allowed to play their alts to keep them from getting bored. not to mention to keep gear from rotting. if something is on farm status, then there's no reason why a guild should keep an alt out of a raid. We run separate 25 mans just for alts though. That way if people want to go, they can sign up. If not, then they don't.

And there is no attendance or DKP on alt runs. What a sh*t storm that would be if there was. razz

We allow alts in the guild if they will be lvl'd to raid. As of now we need hunters so we're smacking all the people who rolled DK's to go back and lvl their hunter mains (if they got one).

As for me >_> I only use my alt for farming mats so it's guildless.

They allow alts, but thats all they'll ever be.... alts. Not full on "You can use this toon in raids with us" kinda thing.

Sometimes. Usually it's after we've had something on farm status for a long time.
