Vinny climbed up the ladder to the slide, and went down again. "Yeah, there's a lot more." He told Zwei. "You've never heard of Superman? He flies with a cape, and has a girlfriend, and he's a reporter--and..." He continued explaining his favorite heros.
"Batman doesn't really have any powers, but he's rich and fights crime. Sometimes the cops think he's a bad guy. They do that with Spiderman too. Spiderman was bit by a spider, and now he can climb walls and shoot webs and... well, he does everything a spider does!"

Teyr followed Vinny up the ladder, sliding down as soon as it was clear. He'd never heard of these heroes, so even though he wasn't the one who was asked, he shook his head. "Just Sparkle Rangers," he explained, but these guys sounded awesome too! "What's a reporter? And girlfriend?"
Zwei had these questions too, and was relieved that he didn't have to ask them. "Sparkle Rangers are team," he explained instead. "Work together to fight bad guys. And use robots when bad guys get really big!" Just talking about them was awesome!

"A reporter's someone who writes, like in a newspaper." Vincent explained patiently. He didn't know how Teyr could have lived his life not knowing that, but who was he to judge? Maybe it was because his parents were novelists that he knew so much. "A girlfriend is... well.. A special friend. Who's a girl." Vinny had recently learned this from his Uncle Vate, who was dating 'Zuba's mother.
"That sounds cool!" Vinny said, smiling at Zwei. It sounded like the kind of thing Joshua would like. Robots fighting bad guys? He couldn't wait to tell him.

"Oh," Teyr said, trying to fix the words in his memory. Though they were learning more quickly now, Ennea was still not the best teacher when it came to speaking, especially in public. "Thank you!"
Zwei nodded solemnly. "Very cool," he agreed. The rest of what he was thinking- that he wanted to be one of them someday- he kept to himself. That was still a secret.
But playing was another story. "Could be Sparkle Rangers. Or other superheroes. Or-" here was an idea! "Could make our own!"

Vinny smiled and nodded at Zwei. "I like that idea," He said cheerfully. "What kind of super hero do you want to be? What kind of power? Flying? Invisibility? X-ray eyes? Laser eyes like Cyclops in X-men? Or maybe you control storms! Like Storm does. Or maybe you can walk through walls!"
He paused and thought about what super power he'd like. "I want to fly." He decided.

"Powers?" Zwei repeated, slightly confused. The Sparkle Rangers didn't have any powers. Well, he supposed Giant Robot Operation Know-How could be considered a power. And their suits probably made them stronger. But what Vinny was saying sounded different. "Special powers? Like Spider-guy?"
Trying to be helpful, Teyr pointed to the swings. "Fly from that?" he suggested. When he jumped off earlier, it sure felt like he was flying... until he reached the ground, anyway.

Vinny nodded at Zwei. "Maybe you guys can come to my house and watch a movie with us. Josh will show you his superhero stuff, if you want. I bet he knows about Sparkle rangers." And yet, as he said this, he doubted it. Josh knew a lot of things, but he didn't think his older brother would know about sparkle rangers.
"My mom makes the best popcorn ever, if you come. Your mom and dad are invited too." He nodded. He knew his mother liked to make friends.

Teyr's eyes lit up. He glanced at Zwei, who was obviously interested as well, and began to nod his head rapidly. "Yes, please!" Movies and another brother-person would be great. But popcorn! That really cinched the deal. "If is okay," he added cautiously. Maybe they had to check first.
Zwei nodded as well, similarly pleased at the idea, and then looked over to where the adults were sitting. "Want to meet family?" he asked. "Have lots of food."
At this reminder, Teyr jumped up and tried to gently lead Vinny towards the blanket. 'Good food! Will like it!"

Vinny shrugged. "Sure," He said nodding, though he doubted the boys' family would like him. He always thought that right before meeting someone. He didn't know what he'd do if someone actually disliked him--he'd never met a person who did.
He allowed Teyr to lead him.

Teyr continued dragging Vinny right up to the edge of the blanket. Once he was there, he let go and grabbed a paper plate, loading it up with large samples of everything. He hadn't eaten in a while, and he was starving!
Now fully rested, Ennea set down her cup of apple cider and held out her hands. "Nice to meet you," she said softly. She paused, trying to put together her words. "I am Ennea- boys' mother. New friend?" She looked at Bernard, who nodded at her, and then patted a patch of blanket between her and Teyr. "Please have food. There is lots."
Though he was slightly hungry, Zwei waited until the introductions were over before he got a plate. "Potato salad is good," he commented, pointing to dishes as he named them. "Coleslaw so-so. Chicken really good!" He took two pieces of that, then waited for Vinny. He didn't want to eat everything.

Vinny obediently sat. "I'm Vinny. Nice to meet you too," He told Ennea. So this was their mother! He had once thought all mothers would look the same-- just like his. Now that he was older, he knew better. He didn't know what to try first, it seemed impolite to refuse. He took a small plate of potato salad. He didn't want to spoil his supper!
He wondered what his mother would say when he told her that he'd been invited to a picnic by strangers. Oh, she wouldn't like that. Not at all. But if he said they were his friends..

Teyr wolfed down his food at his usual quick rate, barely breathing in between bites. He did pause long enough, however, to ask "can give card?" Then he was right back to the food.
"Card? Oh, yes!" It took a moment, but Ennea got the idea and pulled out a small business card, offering it to Vinny. She had gotten into the habit of carrying business cards for the antique shop with her in case she got lost, and found they were useful for keeping in touch with people too. "Come visit shop, get discount!"
"Er... it might not be best to say that to children, Ennea," Bernard interjected. Taking another sip of cider, he looked at Vincent with a wry grin. "I hope this doesn't seem too odd to you, but I promise none of us bites. Unless," he quickly added with a glance at Teyr, "you're served on a plate."

Vinny took the card, and smiled at Ennea. "Thank you." He said gratefully, he looked at it. "My mom can call you guys sometime and invite you to our house, she's always looking forward to having guests."
He took a bite of potato salad. It was good! Almost as good as his mother's cooking. Not quite, but almost. He smiled and took another bite. "This is really good." He said when he had swallowed. He didn't dare take more food though, in case his mother worried about him eating with strangers.

"I'm afraid we can't take that as a compliment," Bernard noted wistfully. "My cooking skills leave much to be desired. However, if you'd like, I could share the name of the restaurant. I wouldn't object to them getting more business." He smiled awkwardly, and took another sip of his cider.
Zwei finished off one of his pieces of chicken and set his plate down. While the break was kind of nice, he was starting to get antsy again. But he knew Teyr wouldn't be ready for a while yet, so he instead focused on the conversation. "Movies and popcorn?" he asked. That had sounded like fun before, and he wanted to see what other people's houses were like, now that he knew that not everyone lived in a store.
Teyr looked up from his plate, which was nearly empty already. "Popcorn? Where?" There was always room for popcorn!

Vinny frowned slightly, he hadn't realized the food had been from a restaurant. "I prefer mom's cooking." He said politely. "She's the best cook on Gaia. Best writer, too." Humility didn't mean he couldn't compliment his mother. "But mom likes to eat out sometimes, what's the name?" He asked, curious.
"Yeah, we do movies and popcorn." Vinny said with a nod and smile. "We play games too, and put on shows, and pretend, and everything. It's really fun." He paused. "Sometimes, we even get Dad to play with us."
