Brushing her hair back from her face she smiled at his words. It was cute in an odd kind of way. Reminded her of one of the boys who always came down to the shelter. He was awkward in brainy kind of way and this boy reminded her of him. Thinking it through she really would rather hang out with this boy than have to go back to the real party, “I’d love an escort.” She said with a smile, “Though I am hardly high class. I spend most of my life with my nose in a book trying to keep up with the medical world.”
Walking toward him she thought about what her parents were always saying about human interaction and she guessed this counted though it wasn’t the millionaire type her parents hoped, he seemed nice enough. She enjoyed the classroom setting where interaction was limited but there was a first for everything. “How about you. What brings you away from all of the excitement?” Her tone was polite as it always was before something sparked within her eyes and she blushed a bit, “I just realized I never introduced myself. I’m Corina, but most just call me Cory.”
Playing with the ruby pendant she wore, she adored the necklace but it wasn't hers. Playing with jewelry was a habit of hers but it also let her check to make sure she hadn't lost the item.

Andy nodded, and motioned for her to step through the small hedge into the gardens. "Oh, that reminds me, my name is Andy, I never introduced myself either." He gave an unsure embarrassed grin, and followed her into the garden. "So, um, medical world. Are you a doctor?" he said casually, trying to make a light conversation. She seemed far more interesting than all the other people at the party, no matter what she said about being high class or not.
"Although, it's kind of the same here. Except my nose is just in a book for no real reason." Shrugging, he took a turn on the path, and looked back to see if she was still with him. "As for leaving the excitement, I really don't think I left all that much excitement behind. The party only seems fun if you either know someone, or you want to make yourself a name. Neither of which I'm interested in." He noticed her necklace as she played with it. "Oh, is that yours? It's very lovely."
All this needless chatter streaming from his mouth, and Andy couldn't help it. Curse my nervous people skills! he wanted to scream to himself. He just hoped she wouldn't get too annoyed with his blabbering. He paused for a moment, and scratched the back of his head while he tried to think of something else that wasn't too boring to chat about.

“Nice to meet you Andy.” She said coming up to walk beside him through the gardens and in attempt to answer his questions, “No not much of anything yet. I’m only a Surgical Assistant right now so all I really get to do is sew people up and occasionally if I am lucky, hand the surgeon an organ.” Rolling her eyes a bit with a smile, “I’m still in Pre-med. They set a credit limit at the college so I can only take so many classes at a time.”
Looking at him for a moment it took her a second to realize what necklace he was talking about before she blushed a bit, “No I borrowed this from a friend. She said it looked good for a handful of reasons and I had to wear it so I could snag some millionaire.” Laughing a bit, “She’s a little nuts. Her life goal is to marry a millionaire and I have med school to finish, but I do love this thing. She’s out there somewhere trying to make her name.”
Falling silent for a moment she wasn’t great at meeting knew people who didn’t need her help. She could even speak two other languages to translate the med terms at the hospital but this was a bit ridiculous she couldn’t think of a simple topic to discuss with this boy.
“So what kind of books to read?” she asked with genuine interest. She had been looking for something else to add to the small library her apartment was becoming. It was nice to be able to get away from the world and into a fictional one every now and then.

"Ah, a millionaire, I see," Andy chuckled slightly. "Unfortunately, all you caught was me. I'm the furthest thing from a millionaire as you can get." He ruffled his hair a bit, but kept walking, not really sure where he was headed, geographically or conversationally. "Oh, um, books? Well, I do enjoy quite a few. This may sound nuts, but I actually once read an entire volume of an encyclopedia. I believe it was the S-T one. . ." he trailed off with a grin.
"I try to read, and most of the time, it's during the day at my job, when I'm supposed to be shelving the books. Although right now, I suppose you could say I'm into the suspense ones right now. I actually write my own, but they aren't very good." Sheesh, can't I get through one conversation without lying once? he asked himself exasperatedly. "Although, I think it would be nice to get a real job someday, like you. I mean, saving people's lives, that sounds pretty amazing."

"I'd rather talk to the pauper than the prince any day." she said with a smile before adding, "Personally though, if I was going to read an encyclopedia I would read 'V'. It had a lot of great words in it." Cory didn't think it was too nuts. She had once read an entire medical dictionary in a little pre-exam breakdown. Hearing he was a writer, her face lit up a bit,
"I bet your books are wonderful! Which ones did you write?" Her face fell a bit, "It's not always that great. It's a lot of schooling and you can't save everyone. I hate it when someone dies on the table even when there is nothing we can do it still bothers me because someone has to go out and tell the family they will never see their loved one again. Some days it's just horrible." On the subject, she had a very specific memory in mind but kept it to herself she hated that she couldn't be Super Girl, and sometimes people just weren't meant to live.

((Shadow, forgive me if I take your wording quite literally? Haha, I think it's about time the siblings interacted, lol. Come to think of it...I've never played a totally, innocent, child-like character before. Shy and nervous yes, but not innocent, lol!!))
The party was getting busier and more crowded by the moment, people coming and going around the small bush she was kneeling behind. The dog was starting to whine and that bothered her; she didn't like other being to be in pain, it just didn't seem fair. It didn't occur to her that life wasn't fair. She tried rubbing his ears to make him feel better, cooing at him. It didn't work.
The people passing by were staring again and she could tell they were wondering what she was doing here. She managed to catch part of one of the conversations as two women walked by and Shy was glad she'd decided to bring her invitation with her, as well as her learners permit. It was one of the rules she'd been given from mother; whenever going to a party, make sure to bring the invititation and an ID, on the off chance you're asked to show them. Looks like mother was right. Again. Oh well.
Shylo turned back to the dog only to realize he was gone. She pouted and stood to look for the pretty animal, spotting it milling in and out of some of the older people. She didn't bother to stay hidden this time, saying "Excuse me," and "I'm sorry" everytime she bumped into one of them. He was getting farther away from her. Personally, Shy didn't really care about the party; as far as she was concerned her main objective for coming had all but disappeared as the main target wasn't even at the party to begin with. Now she was fully focused on the dog and its where abouts. Rationally Shy knew it wasn't a good idea to become attached to the animal, after all, it wasn't hers and even if it was she wouldn't be able to take it home, not without some kind of permission. But it was more a matter of desire than rational as Shylo chased after the creature.
It ducked under one of the tables and Shylo followed it under, careful not to drag the table cloth with her as she crawled out the other side. When she accidently set her hand on a woman's high-heeled shoe she looked up with an innocent smile and apologized before continuing. Once again the dog crept under one of the tables and she was tempted to reach up and grab one of the delicious smelling treats; she was a girl, of course she loved sweets. But Shylo ignored that small temptation and crawled under this table as well, just as the pretty grey dog crawled out. Moving forward, she pushed the table cloth aside and was so focused on catching the dog she didn't notice the pair of legs in front of her before it was too late.
She gasped and fell backwards slightly back onto her legs. Rubbing her nose, more from surprise than actual pain, she looked up at the person she'd run into and stopped move completely. Oh...boy. She was so in for it now. "Big...brother."

((My apologies for my absence. I may be gone tomorrow as well.))
Cole looked down in surprise, feeling something against his legs. At first he had thought it was the dog he had seen when he first got there, but it had hit him too hard to be a dog. They usually just brushed against your legs. He stared down at the girl on the ground, taking a moment to register who she was, not seeing her face right away. As soon as she looked up at him, a look of shock passed across his face before it slowly morphed into slight anger. "Shylo!" he practically shouted. "What are you doing here? Are you here by yourself? Does mom know you're here?" His questions came so quickly he barely paused to take a breath in between them. Unfortunately, the music had started playing so loudly that he could barely hear himself. He reached down and grabbed hold of her arm, rather violently as he did, and pulled up. He hadn't meant to grab her as hard as he did, it just came naturally to him. Especially considering his job. "Come on," he grumbled motioning towards the quieter, garden area. "Come over here so I can actually talk to you without having to yell." Of course, that wasn't necessarily true. It was quite possible that he would be yelling anyway. But he had to say something to rationalize his actions.

((That's cool. I might be able to get on tomorrow, but if not I won't be open until late friday night. And I'm only on long enough today to post a few things.))
"Ah...." His questions flew past her and as he yelled one after another just as the music started Shy found herself unable to respond. On the one hand she would be able to learn more about her brother but on the other...on the other he looked like he was REALLY mad at her.
When he jerked on her arm and tried to pull her up she stumbled slightly, the momentum unexpected. She barely managed to stop her tumble in time but she still had to catch a hold of Cole's arm to fully stop herself. Quickly she let go of him but as he still had a grip on her arm she had no choice but to follow him to the slightly less loud part of the garden.
It would have been easy to say she didn't know she wasn't allowed to be here but of course, when she'd gotten the invitation she'd made sure not to show it to Mom and Dad because she'd assumed they wouldn't let her go; after all, Shylo was likely to be the youngest person at the party and Mother's rationalization was probably going to be something along the lines of Shylo had no place at such a party and she should just stay home and study. But the idea of going to the party had intrigued Shy so she'd come. That was that. But she doubted Cole was going to like that answer...
As the reached the far side of the party she waited for him to let go of her arm as it was starting to hurt. "I...um..."

"You um what?" Cole growled back, finally able to hear again. He stopped next to a large, trimmed hedge and let go of Shy's arm. "What's up with that music, anyway? Why do they have to make it so damn loud?!" He was irritable and anything would set his temper off. The music was just pushing him, like everything else. He was glad that it had quieted down slightly where they were, but it still irritated him. "Now," he said suddenly, turning his attention back to his sister. "What were you saying? I highly doubt that mom or dad would be too happy to know that you're here without supervision. And you know who they're going to blame it on? Me. They're going to blame me for not somehow knowing that you were planning on coming here." He paused to let out a rather loud sigh which was obviously not one of contentment. He was attempting to control his temper. Slightly. His version of 'controlling his temper' was one, not breaking anything. And two, not hurting anyone. He hadn't done either yet, so, with his standards, he was doing well. "How did you even get here anyway? You walk or something? Oh, that's just so much better....Now I'll be blamed for you possibly getting kidnapped on the way here."

This side of Cole was all too familiar; it was usually about this time she tried to get away from him but Shy doubted she'd be able to do it this time. She took a step away from him when he let go of her arm but she didn't go far. She was tense and scared and she was almost sure it was visible. Hiding her emotions had never been her strong suit.
Everything he was saying made sense of course but she hadn't really thought about it much before she climbed out of her window and fell from the tree. Of course he was going to be blamed for it; her parents logic didn't make any sense to her. She was the one breaking the rules so she should be the one to get punished, right? At least, she thought it was supposed to work like that. "I...I climbed out of my window and walked! Mother doesn't have to know! She's never checked on me before..."
It was easy to see Cole was trying to hold in his temper and it made her sad to think she was the one who was making him try so hard. She was supposed to be a good little sister. She tried really hard not to cry, honestly she did, but again, Shy was no good at hiding her emotions and what not. He really was going to get in trouble for her coming here. "I...just wanted to know more about Big Brother!" A whimper escaped and she started to cry, her shoulders shaking as she reached her hands up to try and stop her tears though she knew it wouldn't work. Cole was going to get in trouble because of her.

Cole stared at Shylo as she attempted to make it better. Obviously, nothing she said calmed him down at all. The only thing that made any difference in his attitude was watching her face. He could tell she was getting upset. And she should be. Because of her he knew a fight was waiting for him at home. There wasn't much his parents could do to him anymore, but they could still yell at and irritate him. They could 'ground' him all they wanted but he wouldn't listen to them anymore. He was old enough now that he didn't feel the need to obey them anymore. Once her tears started flowing, however, he began to come back to reality. The only thing that caused his temper to soften was when Shylo cried. Why, he wasn't sure. And it irritated him that it did. His shoulders drooped and he rolled his head back, staring up at the sky. "Stop it..." he grumbled, kind of reluctantly. He refused to look at her for a few moments before finally giving in and staring down at her. "I'll...tell mom that I brought you here since I highly doubt that there's any way that we're going to get around them not finding out..." His idea was definitely flawed, but it was the only thing he could come up with. He was sure that, since the blame would probably be put on him anyway, he wouldn't get in any more trouble if he said he brought her there. Perhaps a bit less because at least she was supervised.

She really did try to stop crying immediatly but it was never that easy for her. The best Shy was able to manage to begin with was to stop audibly, though she was still shaking a little bit. He might have still been mad at her but he was still going to take the fall for what she'd done. After a moment or two of silence on her part she was able to stop crying all together, though she was still sniffling a little bit. It was hard to do so but she managed to look back up at him and offered up an apologetic look. "I'm sorry. I really did just want to hang out with you..."
Her fingers were twisting together of their own accord out of nervousness and she looked back down at the ground, waiting for him to get mad again. He might not know it but she didn't really have any friends at school and as Mother never really let her go out she didn't have any around town either. Getting to hang out with Cole, though as rare as a blue moon, were times she looked forward to. She was not, however, going to let him know that particular fact if he didn't already, else she was sure to screw up the wording and give the wrong idea.
((Haha, Cole is kinda cool in that last post, lol! I'm having trouble with Shy though; it's hard to put myself in her position, XD, but fun! You better keep giving me challenges when it comes to those two, lol!!! Too short for my liking but I couldn't think of what else to say...))

((X3 Cole is a jerk, but he has a soft side. Somewhere. Shylo's just the only one who can bring it out cause she's his little sis X3))
Coke stared at Shy for a few more moments, one eyebrow raised. Why would she want to hang out with him? It wasn't like they ever got along well, nor did he think he ever did anything that would interest her. Well, maybe a few things, but he never let her come with him when he did anything remotely interesting. Their mom would probably had a cow if he did. But he couldn't see what was so interesting about himself that she would want to 'hang out with him' for. He was never one to try to entertain kids, even though she wasn't really a kid anymore. He still considered her one in his mind, though. Because she was and always would be younger than him, he considered her a kid. "You could have just asked me to come along," he said after a long pause. Though....that wasn't entirely true. He probably would have said no. But at least they wouldn't have been in the predicament they were in there. If she had come with him from the start, their mom probably would have known about it and possibly even consented. After another small pause, a small smile threatened the edge of his lips. "You're horrible at thinking ahead, aren't you? What were you planning to do? Did you really think you could come here, avoid me the entire time, yet still 'hang out' with me? How does that work?" He was almost teasing her this time. In those few short moments, his mood had completely turned around.

Jordon lifted her four year old brother down from her shoulders and set him on his feet. She smiled at him and then to her four younger sisters. Aria was the oldest besides Jordon, at seventeen and as much help as she could help to get from one so distractable as that girl. Next to her in age was Mel, who was thirteen and completely impossible. A moody creature. Then came Bijee who was nine, but thought she was older. Finally came Wren, at six, and then Josh at four. Those two were inseparable. This was her family. Jordon beamed at them proudly. Ever since their parent's had died, along with their oldest sister, and all of the other relatives had managed to disappear into the woodworks, it had been just them, getting along how they could.
"Alright troops!" Jordon stated in mock seriousness. "Do you remember our mission?!" Bijee raised her hand anxiously.
"To create chaos and make as big a mess as possible, Jo, sir!" she volunteered. Jordon nodded, grinning. Then Wren chimed in.
"An ta stuff up our faces with foods!" Jordon gave her a salute.
"Right! Now, move out, kids!" they left with varying enthusiasm, Mel muttering about not being a kid. Once they were gone, Jordon breathed a sigh of relief and headed around back of the house. There were virtually no dangers here. She could take a rest. It was something she needed desperately. She looked around for something interesting to catch her eye.

((Bah! School started again, and I suddenly got swamped. So sorry!))
Andy shrugged, not really wanting to tell her about his other persona just yet. When she started talking about not being able to save everyone, he looked away, wanting to give her a moment. She probably faced this stuff everyday, and what did he do? Shelved books and ran a website. "So, um, what do you do in your free time? You can't possibly be a doctor 24/7." He gave her a sideways glance, hoping she would feel better if he got off the subject. It was odd. Normally he was just cold and rude to people, but she somehow melted his exterior.
Looking ahead, he noticed two people, one he recognized as the young man from the dessert table. Not wanting any more company than he already had, Andy took a turn farther into the garden, and paused for a moment to wait for Cory. While he did he looked around where they had ended up. It was quiet, and only dimly lit by small lamps along the pathway. Most of the light came from the moon. It looked quite lovely on the flowers and fountains. "Cory?. . ." he called out softly to make sure she was still with him.
