Before I start putting together a character profile (Since a general sketch idea of inserting a current OC into the pern-verse is running around my head.) I wanted to be sure it would be ok to have a highranked dragonrider as a relative to a candidate. For example a Wingleader (But not going so high as a Weyrlord) as a father~
So long as the dragonrider was completely non-rp'd or had any deep character development or even named (As I remember from the books years ago most children werent even much raised by higherranked dragonriders.).

Golanth -- We would prefer no, actually. Since we're going to be filling those positions with PC characters, we're hesitant for any characters to have high-ranking parents.

Hi. Quick question.

I'm guessing that its standard for male dragonriders to have their names abbreviated, but is it mandatory? Because the name that stuck to my character is only three letters long. sweatdrop

Is there only supposed to be one Watchwher "keeper," or can there be more than one? I saw someone had taken that title, and had always been rather interested in watchwhers.

Avid: It is mandatory and a tradition. xD All male dragonriders have their names shortened, even if they have that short a name.

Fu: I'll direct someone that knows more about watchwhers to this question, but I'll answer with my limited knowledge as well. From the book the impression was given there was one major watchwher keeper, I think, but there can be many watchwher handlers... I'm sure it's not impossible there is more than one watchwher keeper, but if we get too many apps for watchwher keeper, they'll start to be rejected.

Well then I'll say "handler" as opposed to "keeper." That'd be fine, correct?

Yeah, I think so. The problem is that Keeper implies the individual watches over many watchwhers, and probably breeds them-- i.e. they have a gold watchwer. A Handler is bonded to and works with a single watchwher that is probably not a gold. At least that was my take. So I don't think you'd have trouble getting another handler approved.

Two questions from this Cele~ !

In regards to the SS flitters recerting. I'm a little unclear about the wording here... when applying with a character that has a flit (from the SS) but who hasn't been approved yet, should I include mentioning the flitter at all in the profile? Or should I wait until the character is approved... then apply for the recert and then add the blurb about acquiring the flit in the already approved profile and have it reevaluated? I am perfectly clear about the RP req's for the higher flit colors.. just the order of operations in getting future characters approved with SS flits. The rule here in this forum is a little vague, since it petty much says that flits are not cool as pets for new characters unless they are certed, but adds that SS flits (while 'certed' per se) must be recerted O-o! But if I am making a new char.. how can I apply for a new cert with an unapproved char? XDDD! *confused cele* This is all in ref to a remaining little brown of mine... who I am still not sure who to give too... lawl. XD!

Also! In regards to the dolphins and dolphincraft, I recently reread the Dolphins of Pern to get a better perspective on the whole shebang, and it occurred to me that the characters involved used an awful lot of input from AIVAS. Since this shop is sansAIVAS, I was wondering what those of us cautiously looking into creating dolphincrafters should accept as 'canon?' I could assume that humans would have gotten the dolphin clue eventually, and maybe even learned a bit of history through the Tillek, but what are the exact perimeters? Like in regards to dolphin healing/training/communication techniques and what not? (repost from the main thread)

For SS flitt recerting, my recommendation is to do five roleplays with another character if you're interested in placing the flitt in question with a character and act as if they've had it from the beginning. Just place the SS cert in the profile of the character you want it to have, get the 5 RPs elsewhere, and get the flitt recerted.

Alternatively, you can just do 5 roleplays with that character and then get the flitt recerted, and roleplay/mention in the profile that they obtained a flitt, if that's what you'd rather do. Hope that helps. XD

Dolphineers are a little trickier. We'll basically have to make up our own history for that. Someone figured out that dolphins can talk and formed a close bond with one, and met the Tillek, who instructed them in all things dolphin. Of course, people do not have particularly good diving suits on pern in this canon, but I think that one can assume the geniuses at the Smithcraft came up with something-- but the Tillek probably informed them of the tenets of the dolphin-human relationship, and dolphineers probably perform many of the same services as the dolphineers of old. It's difficult because I think I remember them learning from AIVAS how to interact with dolphins, so they gained their trust and friendship a lot faster. But since we've had over 200 years since the events of the books, it's plausible that someone managed to figure it out and teach others, and there are likely Dolphin Bells all over the place by this point in time.

That said, dolphineering can be roleplayed as it was written in the books and no one shall be molested. biggrin

I know it says children cannot be of MAJOR Lord Holders, but what about Minor ones, or Cotholds? I was thinking of having a daughter of a minor Holder being searched while fostering at a major Hold.

Would that be acceptable? It's like, a third daughter, so nobody very important in the family scheme.

Yes, characters can be the children of minor holders. <3

~*Catch a dream and turn it to an idea...

It's fine if my character doesn't have a very special past, right? 'Cause I'm not the type who usually makes characters with extaordinary pasts. (To be quite honest, my character-in-the-making's history is rather... plain. xD )

Also, his physical description isn't going to be much, since I've pretty much just laid down the basics in the profile... (I'm not one for describing appearances too well, especially of characters with strong builds.)

I do plan on adding a picture later on, though... I just hope I can portray him right. x_x;

... Now take that dream and write a story!*~

quick question(s) ... is the RP in the turn(s) that Dolphins are seen as more than shipfish and are there dolphinriders?

or is the guild/forum not in that turn yet?
