Nimaina Sekan (( ninja )) Finding parchment paper couldn't be that hard. This was Gaia after all. You could find anything and everything here. So Nima thought. After three hours of wandering around Minishops, she was ready to scrap that assumption. The girl now had plenty of journals and notebooks, but no parchment paper. And not the kind you got in a box, actual scrolls of it. She stopped at the last store on her list, one that Jer had suggested. She really didn't think she'd find it here, but would try anyway. She peeked her head through the door and glanced around. "Hello?" the girl called softly. "Anyone here?" _Tall_Tales_ "Eeek! Paestri, don't put that in your mouth!!" came a frantic shriek from the back of the shop where the kitchen was.
"Mom! Careful with the-!"
The yell was followed by a loud crash of plastic hitting the tiled floor. "Aiyaa!! What a mess..."
A small mechanical figure soon descended the stairs carrying several towels and mops. Ning paused upon seeing Nima, she quirked her mechanical head to the side before continuing to the kitchen.
"Linny, someone's at the door." Nimaina Sekan Nima winced a little, faintly hearing the yells and crash. Well, someone was here at least! She came inside all the way, looking around still. She hoped it was open and she hadn't barged in on a day off. "E-excuse me? Is everything alright....?" her voice trailed off as she wondered if she should really ask. She sighed nervously, waiting to see if someone would come out. _Tall_Tales_ "Thanks Ning," Linneas nodded at his Fandangle, "You supervise the clean up and I'll join you later," he instructed.
"I'll give Paestri a bath first, I'll probably end up making a bigger mess if I stick around," Huni explained and picked up the batter-smeared infant from her high chair.
Linneas was wiping off the batter that had splattered onto his vest with one of the towels Ning brought.
"Hello, welcome to the Tall Tales Stationery Store, how can I help you?" Nimaina Sekan "Oh, hello." Nima jumped a bit as she noticed him. "Um, do you happen to carry any parchment? Actual scrolls of the stuff I mean." She looked only slightly hopeful at this point. "I've been looking all over the place and can't seem to find any." "Cause you're a ditz!" a voice called from inside her bag. "Shush, no one asked you." _Tall_Tales_ At the mention of parchment, the Study door creaked open, as if indicating that parchment could be found within.
Linneas knew otherwise, "I'll go look if we have some in the stockroom, in the meantime, would it be alright if you waited inside the Study?"
Huni begun her ascent to the bathroom where she would be giving the pink haired infant a bath. She stopped midway when she heard the Study door open,
"Brace yourself, Pae, we're gonna have another one," Huni chuckled. Nimaina Sekan "S-sure..." The door was kinda creepy, opening by itself like that. But if that was where she was supposed to wait.... Nima slipped inside the Study, and waited for her eyes to adjust. She checked back at the door, half expecting it to slam loudly behind her. "Scaredy cat," the voice from her bag called. "It's creepy in here Ari. Why don't you come out and see for yourself?" "I'm comfy," the Fandangle replied in a tone that didn't leave any room of arguement. Huni Pi The door quietly closed behind Nima, and with equal silence locked itself from the rest of the shop. The solitary lightbulb that provided light inside flickered briefly, almost threatening to go out any moment.
The Study looked like it had been built decades before the rest of the shop, everything in it was old and worn and smelled of age. The large Tome atop the writing table seemed to have suffered the least, despite the thick layer of dust that coated its worn leather covering.
Feather quill pens lay scattered around an inkwell, its cover tightly in place. And Nima would soon find out if the ink was still good as the Tome fluttered open. Nimaina Sekan Well at least the door hadn't slammed shut. Still unnerved, Nima edged farther from the door and closer to the Tome. "Why would they leave it like this?" she murmured to no one, looking with dismay at all the dust. The fluttering of the Tome made her jump. She drew closer to it, wary of what could be making it open. _Tall_Tales_ The Tome's pages were yellow with age, brittle and musty. It looked like it would crumble into dust if Nima breathed on it too hard. But looks can be deceiving, and slowly words began to fade onto the pages, as if being written by an invisible hand.
"Why do you dream?"
The Tome seemed to pose the question to Nima. Nimaina Sekan The question took her aback more than it's appearance on the page. Almost without realizing it, she'd picked up a quill and unstoppered the ink. It hovered over the page, quivering just a bit from her hand. "Why do you dream...." she muttered, "Why would anyone dream...?" With a sudden inspiration, she wrote in her slightly messy hand: "To make reality fall away."_Tall_Tales_ And fall away did reality. The walls began to fall apart, but instead of the rest of the shop being revealed, a multitude of colors met Nima's gaze. The walls gently floated into the swirling, mixing hues. Soon, the books followed, then the writing table.
Nima would soon find the ground had fallen out from beneath her feet. A strong gush of wind, followed by a pulling sensation, and everything seemed to mix together. Formless apparitions and hazy figures took the place of the objects, except for the Tome.
The Tome was the only thing that remained tangible amidst the dream-like chaos. And in the blink of an eye, everything returned to normal. Save, that is, for a blonde boy, holding an open parasol in his hand. He was seated on the writing table, his free hand clutching a smaller tome the same hue as his hair.
((congratulations! Mehiyal has arrived! n.n)) Nimaina Sekan ((eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Cute!)) "Ack!" Nima had gone from nervous, to downright panicked. She dropped the quill and threw her arms over her head, expecting the ceiling to crash down on her. She managed to only glimpse at the chaos around her and feel the odd pulling. Then, the world righted. She swayed and tried to stay on her feet. Sadly, she failed and ended up on her knees, disoriented. She glanced up at the Tome to find the little blonde boy, looking calmly down at her. "Wh-where did you come from?" _Tall_Tales_ ((I take it Nima likes? n.n Huni has to go poof now, so assume Linny came back and gave Nima quick explanation that she is now Mehiyal's guardian and handed her the parchment paper for free because of the stress the Study might have made her go through XD))

Nima led they way down the drive, watching her new silent charge out of the corner of her eye. All the way home, Mehiyal had been quiet, save for a few monosyllabic answers. He'd merely watched her and their surroundings with mild interest. At first it was uncomfortable and unnerving. Children were rarely that quiet. After a while though, the silence became soothing. There was so little of that in the house after all.
Mehiyal came slowly out of his reverie, confused at his surroundings. "....And this place is....?" he asked softly.
Finally, more than two words in a row! Nima thought. "This is my home. It's yours too now I guess." She grinned. "We're lucky that Airden decided to move into the attic recently. We've got a room open for you now."
"I see..." He lasped back into silence. If they were going to be living in the same house, he'd find out who this Airden was eventually. He didn't see the point in asking now.
Nima stifled a sigh. Not much of a talker, this one. She and the rest of the household would just have to get used to it. "Come on in and I'll show you around." The front door unlocked magically for her. She would have to rekey all the spells again to work for Mehiyal. She flicked on a light.
Mehiyal's eyes went wide at the sudden glimmers around the room. There were so many facinating things here! He could be distracted for hours in this room alone.
Nima grinned happily and patted his curly hair. "Like what you see? This is Seronil, my store."
He nodded, but frowned a little. "I thought you said this was home.'
"It is. The store is just one room in the house. See?" she held open a door on the back wall, revealing a kitchen beyond.
His frown eased back it a more pleasant expression. But it was obvious Nima wanted to move on from the room. He didn't want to leave! He hadn't even had a chance to look at anything yet.
Nima guessed the train of her new son's thoughts. "Don't worry, you can come into the store anytime you like. But we'll need to meet the rest of the family. And get you something to eat. Are you hungry at all?"
Mehiyal shook his head and reluctantly followed. He would be coming back here though. And often if he had anything to say about it. "Coming Mother."
Mother?! None of her children had called her that yet. But he was her child now, so there was no reason to stop him. And speaking of other children, there was Serin starting dinner. "Hello! I'm home!"
"Miss Nima! Welcome home," Serin called over her shoulder. She glanced over a wing and spotted the scrawny child with Nima. "Oh, do we have a guest tonight?"
"Er...not really. Serin, this is Mehiyal. He'll be living with us from now on." She stroked Mehiyal's curls gently. "Mehiyal, this is Serin. She's your new big sister."
"Ooooo!" Serin squealed happily and leaned down to his eye level. Not that she had to lean far. "It's nice to meet you Mehiyal. I hope you'll like me," she flashed him a bright smile. "You're so cute!"
Was everyone in this house going to be this forward? Ah well, at least she was nice. "A pleasure to meet you Serin," he replied softly.
"And so polite!" The angel girl straightened and clapped her hands once. "Finally a boy with manners around here!"
While the two were getting aquainted, Nima spotted Querna hovering on Surf by the living room door. And the mermaid did not look happy. In fact, she looked about to cry. Before she could call out to the tiny girl, the child zoomed out to the backyard. She sighed and made a mental note to talk to her. "Serin, make sure to put out another place setting tonight. I'm going to show Mehiyal his room." Serin nodded and the pair went upstairs.
Nima opened one of the doors, revealing a bland guest room. "This will be yours now," she explained while etching sigils into the air. She drew the glowing signs together, murmured something, and sent them flying around the room. One landed on Mehiyal's head and disappated, the rest sank into the walls, ceiling, and floor. "There we go! The room recognizes itself as yours. We'll have to get you some better furnishings, but you can tell the walls and carpet how you want them to be and they'll change." She pointed to another door in the hallway. "You can use that bathroom, you'll just have to share it with Darek." She turned to go. "Come downstairs when you're done and I'll show you the rest of the house." She grinned and ruffled his curls. "Welcome home Mehiyal."
"I'll be down shortly Mother. And thank you." He drew over the desk chair and plunked down on it. He looked at the bland walls, dreaming up what could be done with the blank space.

Nima looked despairingly at the Seronil shoproom. There was no way for the pard to fit safely though here. Those wings of his were bound to knock over everything. "It's no good Nimmy!" Arilin cried, echoing her thoughts. "He'll smash everything. Or stab himself on one of the swords."
"I know." Sighing, she locked the door. "We'll have to go around back Laetior." The pard looked at her imploringly. "Don't look so sad, we just have to go through the back door." But as she unlocked the gate she thought But what if Kalin is back there? I'll just have to hope he isn't...
But sure enough, the Dustling Dragon was. "Uh-oh..." Arilin muttered from her shoulder. Kalin happily bounded up to Nima, and spotted Laetior. By this point, Kalin had gotten used to Nima bringing home people and half-people. But a creature like this was another story. His hackles raised and he hissed angrily at the pard, warning the other off his owner.
Laetior had much the same reaction. His butterfly wings fluttered angrily and he made a swipe at the dragon. Nima barely managed to put a sheild between the two. "Stop it, both of you!" she yelled. "Kalin, he's not going to hurt you or me. Same goes for you Laetior." Kalin normally would have listened, but Laetior wasn't as close to her yet. The pard didn't stand down, so the dragon was not convinced. "Arilin go get some help! See if Airden or Ten's home and get them out here."
"I'm on it!" The Fandangle zoomed into the house and came back a moment later leading a reluctant Mehiyal. "Everyone else is gone, Nimmy. Serin and Que are the only other ones home. Serin's too scared and Que's too tiny."
Nima groaned and rolled her eyes. What has Mehiyal going to be able to do? "Mehiyal, stay back. I don't want you to get hurt."
But the boy wasn't paying attention to Nima. He'd spotted the intracate patterns on Laetior's back. Such fascinating swirls. He could study them for hours... He slowly reached out to the pard, gently petting him between the wings. The pard slowly calmed, his eyes closing halfway in a sleepy manner.
Kalin backed up and snorted, confused. He sat back, shifting his front feet in confusion. "You and me both," Nima said as she lowered the shield. The pard didn't move, relaxing against Mehiyal's hand.
Mehiyal smiled softly as he gently stroked the cat's head. "What's his name?" he asked in a quiet voice.
"Laetior," Arilin said. Nima was too stunned to reply.
Again the boy smiled. "A nice name." He scratched Laetior between the ears. "He's mine now. Is that alright Mother?"
"Uh...yeah sure. He'll make a good guardian and friend for you." Like a dog for most little boys, she thought. Mehiyal patted his new friend on the head and the pair went inside.
"Come on Nimmy!" Arilin nudged her shoulder impatiently. "We gotta go put away all that stuff you bought!" The Fandangle gave her another, harder shove.
"R-right." The girl patted Kalin on the head. The confused dragon looked up at her and whined. "It's okay, everything'll be fine now. At least I think so." So long as Mehiyal can keep Laetior calm. I wonder how he did that anyway....

Nima fumbled the front door open, trying to keep Sanalus from fall out of her arms. Then she remembered the door opened to the shop front. Stifling a groan, she glanced down at the girls following her. "Okay kids, don't touch anything in here."
"She means it!" Arilin trilled as it zoomed next to Anamarie. The girl had started to swipe a bracelet, but stopped, blushing at the Fandangle's warning.
She set down Sanalus and opened the kitchen door. Serin wasn't there yet, it was too early for the angel to start dinner by her standards. Airden and Querna, however, were. Somewhere Airden had found mini Oreo cookies and was instructing his niece on the finer points of snacking.
"No no, it's twist, lick, then dunk. Like this." Air demonstrated, deftly going through the process with a normal Oreo before popping it whole in his mouth. Que struggled to twist open her cookie. Even the mini one was larger than her hands. Finally she managed it and dunked it into a glass of milk only a little shorter than her. She took a bite and smiled up at Air, her blue face covered in Oreo crumbs.
"Nummy! Hi Mama!" she called, spotting Nima and the three children.
"Hey Nimmy..." Air's voice trailed off as he noticed the children beside his sister. "Who is this?"
"Cookies!" Anamarie cried, hopping up on a chair before Nima could answer. The pirate girl snatched up an Oreo and dunked it into Air's milk without asking.
"That's Anamarie," Nima pointed to the cookie thief. "This is Sanalus," she gestured to the tiny wizard inching his way to the table. "And this is..." the redhead twisted to reveal a small genie hiding behind her leg, "Zirande. They'll be living here from now on."
"Uh, hi...Nimmy, can I talk to you? Privately?" He rose from his seat, which was promptly taken by Sanalus. The boy had to stand on the chair to reach the cookies, his hat starting to fall askew.
"Sure thing." She made to follow him out of the kitchen, but a tugging on her pant leg stopped her. Zirande looked up at her with big pleading eyes. "You're coming back, right?"
"Of course I'm coming back!" Nima stooped down to give the genie a reassuring hug. "I'll only be gone for a moment. Promise. Why don't you wait here and have some cookies, hmm?" She helped Zirande into a seat as Que slithered along the table to offer the girl an Oreo.
In the shoproom, Nima could hear the kids getting aquainted. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
Air crossed his arms and paced. "How many more kids are you gonna adopt Nimmy? We're running out of room for them all."
"I know...but...Orphanage!" Nima flailed her arms at the kitchen door. "I just couldn't bear to leave them there."
"That and Anamarie insisted you take them home. Softie," Arilin piped up. Nima shot it a glare.
"We don't have room for everyone Nim! Unless you want us all to share rooms." Air made a face. "I'm not too keen on bunking with a kid."
Nima sighed. "I know, I know. I guess I'll have to get the house remodeled."
"And where's everyone supposed to go while you do? We can't all stay in a hotel or something." Air had started pacing in agitation. To him, his baby sister had a pathetic bleeding heart. Course he thought It is why she brought me back to life... He shook his head, trying to ignore the tiny voice.
"Hey...can you bug that mad scientist friend of yours? Wotshername...the elf chick."
Nima raised an eyebrow. "You mean Jerava?"
Arilin bonked Air on the head. "Jer's not a mad scientist. She's an intelligent researcher. You of all people should be nice to her."
Air waved the Fandangle off. "Whatever. She's got that huge house of hers. Think she could put us up for however long it takes?"
"Maybe," Nima mused. "Why don't you go ask her?"
"Me?! Why do I gotta do it? She's your friend."
"Because you suggested it," both Nima and Arilin said at the same time. Nima pointed in the direction of Jer's room. "So march brother dear." Airden knew better than to argue. Jamming his hands in his pockets he trudged out the door. Nima walked much more leisurely back to the kitchen. At some point during her talk with Air, Mehiyal must have wandered into the kitchen as she saw him sitting in the middle of all his new siblings. The boy looked so bewildered as Querna offered him a cookie and Anamarie tried to swipe his parasol. Smiling gently, Nima went over to explain. Zirande immediatly latched onto Nima's leg again. I'll tell them all when Air gets back. No need to get them all worked up just yet...

This post takes place on Dec. 25th"Mehiyal?" Nima called softly, knocking on the door gently. Most of the household had learned the boy didn't care for anything to be loud. She pushed the door open gently to be greeted with a deep growl. A white and green head glared up at her, butterfly wings quivering in warning. "Down kitty," she said to the pard. "Down Tior." Mehiyal said softly, echoing his mother. The big cat backed off and settled onto his huge pillow. I'm gonna have to get him to train that cat not to growl at family, the mage thought. She found Mehiyal curled up on his bed with a large picture book, more stacked beside him. Note to self, get him a bigger bookshelf when we remodel."Guess what," she said softly, keeping her hands behind her back. "Hm...?" The boy glanced up from his book, looking somewhat annoyed at the interruption. "Your coal hatched." That got his attention. He wondered if his mother was imagining things. Even he had never dreamed up something like that. "...How does...coal...hatch?""I'm not entirely sure, but then how do kids come out of books or little balls of putty?" Well he did have to give her that one. "But yours did! See?" She pulled her hands from behind her back, revealing the green and grey creature. Mehiyal's pale face lit up as he breathed a soft "oooh." He reached his hands out slowly and she gently placed the creature into his cupped hands. "Is it...really mine?""Yup, it's really yours. You just have to take care of it, just the way you take care of Tior, kay?" She stroked his curls gently, grinning how the appeared to be green in the light of the creature's flames. The boy nodded emphatically. "I'll take good care of him. And I'll name him Illus..." he said as it twinned around his hands. Nima smiled and ruffled his curls again. "I know you will. Merry Christmas Mehiyal." "Merry Christmas Mother..." he called back in a voice barely above a whisper as he went to introduce Tior and Illus to each other.

Nima's log I'm starting to get worried about Mehiyal. On the one hand, I can understand being shy and not wanting to be around his siblings. After all, most of them are just so...rowdy... But on the other, he does nothing but sit in his room and read all day. Not that reading's a bad thing...but if he didn't need to eat I don't think he'd ever come out. I really hope this is just a phase. I can't tell though. He hasn't been here all that long and has been acting like this from the start. Maybe things will be better in the spring. Could be he just doesn't like the cold and all the other kids just want to play in the snow now. Doubtful, but one can hope. If not I'm going to have to do something. He may hate me for it, but whether he likes it or not he can't stay shut away from the world forever.

"Mehiyal! Where could he be?" Nima had searched the house from top to bottom, looking for the boy. She'd planned to take boys out shopping that day for furniture. They couldn't all be sleeping on cots once the house was remodled after all. Unfortunately, Mehiyal had hidden himself somewhere in the house. "Any luck?" she asked Arilin as the Widget floated down the stairs.
"Nuh-uh. You sure he's still in the house?"
"He's got to be. I'd know if he'd gone outside the wards." The Fandangle twirled in his version of a shrug as Nima sighed. She went into the living room, finding the other two boys fighting over a video game. "Hey! Cool it you two. Or we're not going anywhere today."
Darek sulked. "I don't wanna go shopping anyway!"
"Then I guess you can just have a sleeping bag in your room, huh?" Nima retorted. "Behave yourselves until I get back," she said, prying a wand out of Sanalus's hand.
Meanwhile, Mehiyal wasn't in the house at all. In fact, he wasn't even on Gaia anymore. No, he was Sir Mehiyal, a legendary knight, protecting his lands from evil invaders. The great knight wasn't sure who the invaders were, or where they came from, but they were there! And only he could vanquish them. With his trusty winged steed and faithful dragon, he'd win against the bad guys for sure. All he had to do was get into the enemy camp and challenge the leader to one on one combat. It worked in all the movies, right?
But as he got close to the enemy and was just about make his challenge-
"Mehiyal! There you are, I've been looking all over for you!"
His dragon turned into little Illus, the winged steed became a pard, the enemy camp went back to Uncle Airden's attic, and the sword at his side was a soup ladle. And worst of all, the forest at his back was a stairway, with his mother standing at the top.
"What were you doing all the way up here? I thought I told you not to come into Airden's room without permission."
Mehiyal shot his mother a resentful look. How could she interrupt the story? It was just getting good too. "Playing Mother," he mumbled.
She shook her head. "You can play later loveh. We've got to get going before everything closes today." To emphasize her point, Ari got behind the boy and nudged between the scrawny shoulder, pushing him towards the stairs. Tior growled at the Fandangle; the pard didn't want the boy to leave any more than Mehiyal did.
Ari squeaked at the sight of those teeth and hid behind Nima's shoulder. "It won't take long Mehiyal, I promise." She held out her arms to the boy. He didn't budge. "The sooner we get going, the sooner we'll be back," she reasoned.
It was obvious she wasn't going to give up, so Mehiyal resigned himself. He let Nima carry him down and out the door where his loud brothers joined them. Sighing, he rested his head on her shoulder, wishing he could go back to that other world.

Pleasant nonsense. An oddly purple sky out the windows. A house all to himself. Illus large enough to wrap around the building twice, but fitting inside it anyway. He wandered through the halls aimlessly. He opened a door to one of the girl's rooms and the whole world darkened. The soft pleasant colors became dark. He was suddenly smaller, and much more fearful. The empty house now terrified him, tall dark walls echoing every sound hollowly. An unknown terror wandered the halls just behind him, waiting for him to be completely alone. There was no huge Illus, there was no one to hear. He ran into another room and suddently wanted to face this menace head on. Confident, fearless, he was now taller and stronger. But even this terror made him shiver. Then, filled with a need to protect. But there was no one around but him. In an instant he was tiny, barely able to move on his own. But no limitations would stop him from meeting it head on.
Flashes of emotion, images, vague thoughts. He was surrounded by confusion, unable to decide. He had to get away, had to figure out what was going on. He ran, away from the confusion, down the stairs, out the door-
Mehiyal woke up to sobs, murmurs, and cries of fear from bed in the house. On the bunk below him he could hear Darek breathing harshly. Across the room Sanalus cried quietly into his pillow. He hugged his knees close to his chest and sat wide eyed in the dark, while outside he could hear his mother working her way through the rooms calming everyone down.

Nima looked around the table, seeing exhausted faces from each of the children. This was the third night in a row of night frights from everyone. She finally forced Serin to sit down and cooked breakfast herself. The girl appeared even paler than usual. Having one or two kids with recurring nightmares wasn't odd. But every child, even the Darek and Querna, waking up at the same moment completely terrified was downright spooky. She checked on the boys in the living room. None of them had enough energy to even be poking each other. Mehiyal looked as green as his markings. She sighed and resolved herself to figure out the problem.
"So what do you think it is Nimmy?" Ari asked her that night in the workroom.
"Honestly I don't know," she replied, settling herself into the chalked circle. "It might be some sort of poltergiest or wraith haunting the children. So I'm going into the spirit world, but sticking around the house. Want to help me?"
"'Course!" he said nestling into her lap while the spell washed over them both.
A second later she was hovering just over her body, a bundle of furry energy in her lap. That was odd...but after a moment it changed to the familiar mechanical shape. Lets go, she said.
The pair searched the house from top to bottom but didn't find any spirits. Perhaps it only came during a certain time of night. She and Ari hovered in the hallway connecting all the children's rooms, waiting.Halfway though the night, she could hear a soft, frightened, high pitched murmur from the girls' room.
Zirande. she said softly, leaving Ari to guard the hall. Sure enough, the girl was having a nightmare. Nima placed a "hand' on her forehead, enough to get a sense of what the girl was dreaming. Loneliness and a nameless terror.
Nima! Arilin called. You need to come see this! Like right now... There was nothing she could really do for Zirande, so she broke the tentative connection. She rushed out into the hall to find Arilin talking nervously to Mehiyal. The boy shouldn't have been able to see the, much less talk to them!
But wait...the boy was just a see through and ethereal as they were. Even more so, his form wavered and blurred, as if he wasn't in concious control over this projection.Hello Mother, he said softly.
Mehiyal, what are you doing out of bed so late at night? she asked cautiously.
He looked confused and his form wavered more. But it's only afternoon Mother. With that he sailed into the girl's room as if she wasn't there. An instant later, she heard of soft cry from the boy's room.
Nima and Ari both rushed into the room, finding Mehiyal in his bed, tossing and turning with a nightmare. Nima managed to touch him, getting the same nightmare she had from Zirande. But both Mehiyal and Zirande were in it. More presences were pulled in, and more sobs came with each added mind. Nima broke the connection. She and Ari raced back to their bodies, unable to do anything as spirits.
Her body was stiff from hours of not moving. But Arilin's wasn't; without being told the Fandangle shot out of the room to wake up Mehiyal. By the time Nima got upstairs, Mehiyal was out of bed, looking frightened. "Ari," she said softly so as not to wake anyone else. "Wake up Zirande, have Serin calm her down." Already the other children were calming in their sleep, their dreams going back to normal. She scooped Mehiyal up, wondering what in the world to do now.

Mehiyal found his mother at the kitchen table, scanning a large dusty book while trying to eat lunch. Sighing, he did something highly unusual: curled up in her lap and hugged her, burying his face in her shirt.
Nima sat back, surprised. She expected this sort of thing out of Sanalus and Zirande, not from withdrawn Mehiyal. "Mehiyal?" She stroked his hair and back gently. "What's wrong loveh?" she asked softly, knowing how much he disliked loud voices.
After pause, the muffled reply came. "It's all....my fault...right? I'm giving everyone nightmares."
Nima hugged him close, wondering how to phrase it. She should have seen something like this coming. "It's because of you, but it's not your fault." He sat back and looked up at her, confused. "You're just...linking everyone's dreams. And since Zirande's having nightmares, everyone else does when they're linked with you. But you didn't know you were doing this. And you didn't want to give anyone nightmares, right?"
"No...I don't....I wouldn't want to give anyone bad dreams...not even-" he broke of suddenly, his eyes wide, as if he'd said to much. Before Nima could coax the rest of the sentence out of him, he asked, "How can I...stop it? I don't even know what I'm doing..."
"Well, I think eventually you'll have to figure out how to control it. But for now, I can some type of mental shield around you for when you sleep. Hopefully it'll keep you from wandering into everyone's dreams. Sound good?"
He nodded. "But...what if it doesn't work?
She shrugged. "Then we figure out something else."
Mehiyal didn't look entirely sure, but his mother was the adult. She'd know what was best. "You won't...tell anyone? Will you?"
"Not right now," she said, lightly kissing his forehead. "I think everyone'd be pretty upset about it. Maybe later, when we've got everything under control." She hugged him gently and rocked him, taking advantage of the rare moment. "Everything will turn out okay. Just wait and see."

Welcome Home!
The entire family stood out on the sidewalk, looking at the mist-shrouded house. A couple of the younger children had covered their eyes, waiting for the surprise. Nima grinned and pulled out her wand. After living so long in a small house, this was going to be a very welcome improvement. "Okay everybody! Welcome home!" She drew a huge sigil in the air and pushed it towards the mist, making it leave in a cloud of sparkles. Both the effect and the house left jaws hanging open and squeals of happiness.
What was once a mid-sized suburban home is now a sprawling three-story manor with a tall rooftop.Where the garage used to be, there is now an elegant shoproom for Nimaina's home business. Beyond Seronil is a kitchen and dining room able to accomadate the entire family and any guests. The living room/playroom also now suits the larger family, with plenty of space for any games the children think up. Connected to the living room is Tentei's study and two magic workrooms: one for everyone's use and instruction, the other for Nimaina's private usage. The living room, Nima's workroom and Tentei's study all have doors to the spacious backyard containing a pond for the Nereids, koi and Querna.
There are two elevators and a set of stairs connecting each floor. The second floor has the master bedroom, rooms for the younger children, and the room reserved for Jerava's dimensional portal and anchor. A small room has been specially made for Querna. It contains a fishtank that dominates over half the room and is connected to the house plumbing system to keep fresh water in it. There is a raised shelf with minature bedroom furniture leading into the tank and small stair going from the floor to shelf, giving Que easy access to everything. Next to the shelf is a chair for large visitors There is also a playroom connecting to a balcony that may be converted into a nursery if any babies arrive.
The third floor has more bedrooms, mostly for the older girls. One of the larger rooms is shared by Serin and Zirande. There are multiple extra bedrooms in anticipation of Nimaina's adoption habits.
The attic also containes bedrooms, having been converted for the older boys' use. Half the attic has four bedrooms and a training room for Sesshou, Tentei, and anyone else that feels up to joining them. The other half has been reserved for Airden, containing a fully stocked kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and private magic workroom. Both Airden's and the general area connect to a third balcony overlooking the backyard.
"Is this really ours?" someone asked, Nima wasn't sure who.
"Yes, it's really ours." She grinned at the assembled children. "Well don't just stand there! Go check it out." The entire group swarmed into the house. Nima walked in with more decorum, Arilin floating behind her. As she settled onto the living room couch, she could hear feet thudding up the stairs and the quiet workings of the elevators. Hearing squeals of delight, she grinned, happy to be home.

Mehiyal sat curled up in one of the third floor guest rooms. Right now, these empty bedrooms were the quietest places in the house. He could hide away in here with Illus and a stack of Spiderman comics he'd borrowed from Tentei for hours without anyone noticing he was gone.
Well, except for one person...
"Mehi?" came the high pitched voice from the hall. "Mehiiiiiiiii!" He winced as doors were slammed open and shut throughout the floor, that awful nickname being called with each slam. All too soon, the door to this room burst open, the tiny person on the other side squealing with delight. "MEHI! There you are!"
He winced again and tried to hide behind the comic. It didn't work. Seconds later Kedana was bouncing on the chair's wide arm, grinning like the idiot Mehiyal felt she was. "Whatcha doin' hiding in here Mehi?"
He glared at her. "My name is not 'Mehi,'" he said softly before turning back to his comic. Maybe if he just ignored her, she'd go away. It worked with Querna after all.
Either Que was smarter or Keda just had more patience. Either way, the angel didn't leave. Instead, she started jabbing him the shoulder. "Mehi. Mehi! Pay 'tention to me!" Each word was accompanied by another jab in the shoulder.
"I liked you better as a baby," he muttered so softly only Illus could hear him. Just keep ignoring her and she'd go away, right? That's what Mother had said about the older boys when they picked on him. But she didn't stop and his patience finally snapped. "What do you want?!" He thought he yelled, but it came out at barely conversation-level.
She grinned and held up a Dr. Seuss book. "Read me story?"
Mehiyal glared at the evil book. Dr. Seuss was for babies. "No. Go away." He snapped the comic book back up, hoping again that she'd take a hint. After a minute, he heard a delicate sniffle. And another...he could almost hear the lip quivering. He looked up over the pages to see Kedana's silvery eyes filled with tears. Any minute now she'd start bawling and that'd bring the whole house down on them.
"...fine...I'll read to you..."
"Yay!" The tears instantly vanished as she held out Green Eggs and Ham to him.
"No Dr. Seuss..." he said firmly.
"B-b-but-" Keda's lower lip started quivering again and the tears came back.
"No...you want a story or not? She nodded slowly. "Then no Dr. Seuss..." he said, picking up the comic books and going to his room to grab another book. He came back with a large picture book of Sword in the Stone. "We're reading a good book... he said, settling back into the armchair.
"Kay!" She curled up in the chair next to him, much to Illus' dislike.
Mehiyal sighed and turned to the first page. "Once upon a time..." he started softly, only to be jabbed in the ribs.
"Louder!" she demanded, glaring up at him.
He grumbled and started again louder. "Once upon a time..." This was going to be a long afternoon.
