Myakachii

But for the most part, I agree with Amani. ^_^ Unless your fat, have a scar across your face, or if your muscles are insanely ripped, go for it! biggrin

Alright, ladies, I didn't think there'd be many comments after -Lolita_Kana- stepped in, and there haven't been, but they've been regarding the statement quoted above for quite some time. Indeed, this thread does have an "I'm questioning my cute factor" air to it, but it was asked by one specific user (ashasaurus13). There has been an abundance of bashing on Myakichii about scars and general body mass, much of it reiterated. Certainly, no doubt remains in any of our minds that an imperfect lolita (which we all are) can still be a cute lolita. That's just where your wardrobe and natural beauty come into play.

This is not to say that I'm defending Myakichii's opinion. Appearance is no way to judge anyone, ever; that's blatant discrimination. I'm not even defending Myakichii in particular (who knows if she'd appreciate the notion or not.) I'm speaking for all those who have said something like she did -- an ignorant mistake. True, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt about what she's saying. She might be uniformed, have prejudices of her own, or that it's just my natural inclination to do so. Maybe it is not a mistake at all, that it's something she meant to say, and my counter-argument is completely bogus. For the chance that I can save us all another post about "being fat doesn't make you ugly", I'll believe the former. After all, it's because of the mistakes we live with and the choices we make that we might have less than smooth skin, our bodies might not be how we want them, or, heck, we might not even see ourselves for the beauty that we actually posses.

i think you could easily dress in any style lolita even if you have a more boyish appearance. i mean there are many visual kei MEN that i have seen pull off lolita dresses. MANA perfect example, though that can be extreme. you don't hav eot have long hair either. a cute bow or cute tiny clips look so cute in short hair

Oh, Mana-sama is so pretty in lolita though . . .
And about the wig, Moon-Kana almost always wears wigs, and she's amazing.

@ Ash

I don't think anyone would think of you as a boy or boyish if you're wearing a cute lolita outfit smile

I agree with purpalina, bows or clips look gorgeous in short hair!

Your haircut doesn't really matter at all in lolita fashion. Cute is best, whatever you have to work with smile What will give you the lolita look are the clothes, socks, shoes and accessories smile Especially a full skirt with some support beneath it smile

In my eyes, everyone looks prettier in lolita fashion smile

I ave seen alot of boyish people pull of loli and do it well. You realy just have to try. I d be more concerned about getting outifts that are good for you body type and deciding what your color (scince its easier to start with one) should be. Plus a little lace gos a long way in the whole looking less like a boy catagory.

Agreed.

Doesn't matter what your body type is, what scars you may have, or if your looks can be a bit boyish. The wonderful thing about lolita is that the overall shape is flattering to all and can make anyone look feminine.

(and, just to put it out there, I think that larger lolitas just fit the aesthetic better- you don't see Victorian dolls that were skinny like Barbie. But Barbies would still look great in a Victorian outfit. They would look just as beautiful.)

But anyway,

Like the others have suggested, you can add hair accessories or even purchase a wig if you think that it would make you feel "girlie." But there is really nothing wrong with short haired lolita... again, they look just as beautiful.

Since the subject of hair seems to be the main focus right now... You might look at some of the punk lolitas in the GLB. There are quite a few with short hair, and they make it work. If you don't think your current look works for a sweet/gothic/classic look, you might try punk loli. It also is a good way to 'ease in' to the fashion, as it tends to be more casual.

Recently just went through some old shojobeat issues and came across an interview with the owners of Baby, The stars shine bright and what they had to say on the issue of who should or shouldn't dress lolita of any style is that, as long as you like it you should wear it. It's your confidence about wearing something that makes it visually pretty and/or cute. It's like when you take pictures of yourself, people who are confident about their appearence no matter how much they weigh, or if they have a scar they don't like or anything, if they're confident they look pretty/cute anyway since pretty doesn't have a specific definition. Every girl is beautiful in her own way, and you may think you're boyish but others may not. I remember seeing a beautiful bald women at a CD shop last year(she looked kind of happy when I told her she looked pretty...yes I do tell that to random strangers) so, hair length isn't such an issue. There are a lot of cute girls with short hair, so as long as you like it, go for it! I'm sure most of us will cheer you on ^_^

edit: wow this was an old post....I feel lame xD

And you wear it very well. I had a roommate quite some time back who was heavy set, but she felt so good about herself and how she looked that well she looked great. Confidence can really make a difference.

Wigs are a really fun opinion for anyone. My hair is waist length and I still wear them. (Black works great for gothic and cosplaying yurei, but just doesn't work with my steampunk)
Suki Mana, I've actually mentioned you (not by name, of course, but as "A girl I've seen post online") in describing how to do plus-sized loli really well.
