I like the way you think, Havi!!!
And you're right--You never see tom-boy OCs, now do you?
And making her look like a guy--I absolutely freaking LOVE it. heart You're right--The possibilities are ENDLESS with that!!!! heart heart
But, now back to the cons....I could tone down the nice-scale to about normal instead of like, a 10/10. Since she's going to be around rough and tough guys, of course (and she is pretty much rough and tough also...besides the guy part, of course XD).
But then, I also want to keep her loud and a bit obnoxious, but not too much like Yusuke...That's who she's probably going to connect with the most at first, by the way--Yusuke and Kuwabara. Reasons why are so obvious, am I not right?
And I'm not sure who to make her fall for--I SO want to keep the KuwaxYukina. I love that pairing. No way could I destroy it.
And I can't destroy the YusukexKeiko. My head would be ripped off. sweatdrop
The little "off-buttons" is a pretty good idea. I wonder what I can do with that....;
And the quirks are adorable. 4laugh I think I could go naming them off in my little planning notebook (yes, I DO have one...XD)! 4laugh
And I just found one!! Ren is a HUGE believer in feminist rights--She hates when people think that girls/women aren't capable of things. Well, sorry if I gave away a major one, but I love this one already. xd
So, in the controversery of love interests, how could I make Ren fall (or vice versa) for Hiei or Kurama? If it were even possible?

Welll....yep. All the obvious ones are kinda ruled out. Hahaha. ^^;
Ummm....
Her hanging out with Kurama would just be interesting. Think about it. Random person turns to Ren: "You're girlfriend is very pretty." Ren answers immediately: "I'm a girl." Thinks: 'Oh wait...' Random Person: "Oh really! I think lesbian couples are adorable! You're the uh...the uh...butch right? And she's the femme? Oh how cute!" Kurama and Ren: ...
After a while, if you're not stupid, you can make her grow on Hiei. It's actually not that hard to do if you know his character and recognize others who have grown close to him, your main example being Yusuke. So you can basically just have him think of her as a female Yusuke, which people have argued is an amazing couple.
Personally though, I'm not sure about the romantic aspects of it, since Ren's stereotype would make her out as the type of person always wanting to be the dominant person in the relationship, and having her secretly blush at all the romantic stuff has been done before. You want to make her INTERESTING, DIFFERENT! You know?
Edit:IN THE END I think it'd be cute to have a RenxKurama friends with benefits relationship.
Re-Edit: I think it'd add an interesting twist to the story and add to her character if Ren was very affectionate with her friends. (Will hold hands with her friends, kiss them on the cheek, has very little personal space) and it will also add a nice contrast to her rough and tough plus cynical characteristics, ne?

In doubt, your friends are always there......I was thinking about pairings, and I did think that the RenxKurama was the best bet. I can't see Ren and Hiei together..No, no defianately not.
And I do plan on making her connect with everyone in the group in their own, special way. Like with Hiei, to let him gain her respect.
But I can't see Ren kissing and holding Kuwabara's and Yusuke's hands, or Hiei's for that matter. rofl But I do like the idea of very little personal space. I can defianately see her doing that.
And romantic aspects...This might get me to thinking a little. sweatdrop

Hahahaha! True. Thinking back on it, Hiei would want to be the dominant in the relationship. It would be a POWER STRUGGLE. XD As for Kurama, I don't think he would care as much. He wouldn't put too much emphasis on being dominant or submissive, JUST what Ren needs. ; D (awww...look how much she's grown up. >w<)
She could still be very touchy with the guys, and I can see her kissing their heads. : D
I guess I was mainly referring to her girl friends when I mentioned the hand holding, one preference she has with girl being they don't mind affection so she can express hers in the physical manner she does, another reason she's so often mistaken as a lesbian.
Yeah, it was hard for me to think of actual ROMANTIC aspects, which is why I wanted to stick with just friends with benefits. Can't you see her and Kurama just sitting on the couch, hanging with the guys and holding hands, or Ren playing with his hair? XD (how could ANYONE resist playing with his hair. I swear, those dudes and chicks in YYH must have EXCELLENT self-control. XD)

Haha, I could see her doing that to Hiei once (head kissing) and Hiei being all like, "Never...EVER....Do that....Again."

Also, what should I do when they're walking around Maze Castle? She's pretty much where Suzaku is. It would be pointless to rewrite the whole story-line of what happens...So, do I just do I time-skip? :I
I'm beginning to write it, by the way, since I have the basics. Romance will come later, so I have time. xd
EDIT: Well, my friend gave me a good Yusuke one. It's a sorta thing we have, but we sometimes in our RPs call him 'uke'. Yes, I know he's straight, but I could see Ren saying that just to annoy him...Although, that's not a huge annoyance one....Is it? :/
EDITEDIT: I reread, and you said RenxKurama friend benefits. Do you just mean them being 'just friends but close'? *confused* gonk

Are you...um...not familiar with 'friends with benefits'? It's when people aren't OFFICIALLY going out but still hold hands and do couple-like stuff. I think that's be cute. ^^
Hahaha, like the Yusuke idea, and Kuwabara would chime in, building the Ren and Kuwa relationship. : D
You can have various time skips where she falls asleep or has controversies with the Saint Beasts, plus if you re-watch the epis, you'll see the Four Saint Beasts are spying on the guys as they go through Maze Castle, so you can have her witness that.
Teehee, Hiei and Ren wrestling. That's just so fun. >w<

What's your goal in the story? So wait you DON'T want Ren to play a major role in YYH in your rewriting? Sorry, but...yeah, what exactly are you planning for the story? Do you want to develop Ren's character? What POV is it in? Do you just want to practically rewrite the original storyline except add Ren remarks or have her randomly tackle someone? o_o;

No, she's not gonna just come in and randomly tackle the boys (Haha xd ), but I'm afraid if I give too much attention to her, she'll become a mary-sue, like Mistress said. The POV is in 3rd character.

Alright, but just keep in mind that she won't become a mary-sue until you stop treating her like a real person. Everyone has their up and down days. Everyone trips over seemingly nothing sometimes. Everyone says really stupid things at the most inopportune moments. Everyone has gotten hurt or has hurt someone. And everyone has lost control of something before.
But at the same time, everyone has the moments they shine. Everyone is done a favor at some point. Everyone has random good sumeritan moments And everyone has moments where they feel love of those around them.
Just make sure you stick to your characters actions. Don't think 'oh, it'd be awesome if Ren did this.' Think, 'what WOULD Ren do,' and make sure the entailing consequences are played out accordingly. Some people click immediately with each other. Other relationships take time to build. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, their desires and their fears. If you make all this match up, you'll do great. : D

havishanta 1) Your character (Ren) was sent before the Detectives to do whatever. (In your case, scout the place out?) Now you can use her as a point of reference to go with the four and provide them information as they go along. 4) She saves Botan because of her enhanced sixth sense during Maze Castle. (Remember, Botan is fending off Makaii insects during the Four Saint Beasts epis?) For that, Botan introduces to Koenma and boys (plus maybe Keiko?) and is commissioned a Spirit Detective. I think these two are your best bet. Neither is cliché, and both are interesting. Though if she already worked for Spirit World then it would make sense that she might already know the guys, seeing as Spirit World doesn't have a lot of human employees (as far as we know.) Perhaps she lives in the area and is paying off a debt or is a secret agent or something? Yeah. Oh, and #5 is teh win. ((Totally off subject, but havi--did you suspend the fic with Sachiko? And if you did, may I ask why? I only ask because I'm curious, and I love hearing epiphanies about writing.))

Ahem.
Well, I suspended because as Miss Ayana put it, I had an A.P.A. or an Author.Panic.Attack. I freaked out thinking how I was going to make the HieixSachiko relationship even work. How it was going to be long term. How Hiei could even PUT UP with her.
But Miss Ayana wound me down. CALMED me down. And talked me through it. She convinced me the pairing was good because it HAD its imperfections and to look at KeikoxYusuke if I thought otherwise.
So I took a few deep breaths and started writing again. : )
Awww...I just can't believe you said that. You LIKE hearing my epiphanies. I was convinced people were sick of my rants by now. Lol. Awww! (Hugs Hiei teddy bear again, then tosses away...again)
Wonder if he has abandonment issues. Ahaha! Just like the real thing! Ahem. Anywho.
I guess this also ties in with YOU Sunshine_Girl. ^^ Just remember that no relationships are perfect. My best friend and I? Yeah, we get into fights ALL the time. So why are we still BFFs? Cause we LOOOVVVEEE each other. Cause we are PITTED together. Cause we realized the GOOD outrules the BAD.
Have fun with the characters, but also realizes that EVERYTHING has flaws, and that's what makes it beautiful. It's a lesson I needed to learn, and I learned it by tearing myself apart.
No joke. I cried that night during my A.P.A. I punched my Hiei teddy bear to no end, than hugged him and told him that he had known. That he had known the entire time it wouldn't have worked out. But its something every author needs to learn, and its evident Sue-writers haven't even come close to learning it yet. : /
