((Well, this attack is kinda supposed to just crash on the Earth's defenses))
"So when you die I've got to not only deal with that, but whatever shitty news you're bringing me? Or worse yet, wondering what the shitty news is until I find out through some third party because you wanted to be campy? Really?"
The bubble drones stopped what of the spider bots they could, but their design only allowed for one shot at a time, no matter how fast those shots were flying, so some got through.
"Bring Apollos' on defense, fire Flak loads"
The beams split into hundreds of tiny beams each, each seeking out the oncoming ships and bots.
Hanging in Earths orbit, a series of large tubes floated pointing outwards. On the Colonel's command, they began to fire, launching ridiculously large, hollow point bolts of metal, magnetically propelled at the large ships oncoming.

While the Kore ships were dropping like flies, Gate had taken advantage of the battle to an assault on the data transfers on the Moon Base, inserting faulty bits of code, causing orders to vanish, scanners to momentarily black out, and weapons to fire early or hold a round.
"Bryne. II have bought you and your men time. Retreat now."
No sooner had these words met Bryne's ear when Earth replied to gate's sabotage with their orbital Coilgun platforms, firing lightpost-sized rods of Tungsten at the assembled Kore fleet.
Gate scrambled as many of the larger Hunter ships to adsorb the coilgun fire as he could, but soon those casualties began to add as fast as the Kore's.

Now that I'm dealing with something more important that our lives, you think I'd ******** it up?"

He didn't respond to Gate but he did call out a retreat. The ships that could, turning back and away from fire. A white light flashed on the sides of the ships that couldn't move, signaling a universal signal of surrender. Bryne's ship was one of the ones which could still function, heading at high speed back towards one of the Kore bases.

"Yes, because now it would be dramatic and possibly heroic."
"The Kore ships are fleeing sir. Those crippled have laid down arms and plead for surrender."
Frienz nodded. "Excellent. Give the cowards time to flee, then deploy forces to take the remaining ships." the Colonel chuckled. "Good day for a fight."

"Head to Osis." Bryne said, sinking back into his chair.

((Frienze meant take the ships that had surrendered. If active weapons are left in the vicinity of the surrendered ships, Earth would assume it was an attack under the pretense of surrender, and destroy the ships and no longer take prisoners. Just sayin.))

Das Steube "After the day I've had, I want to live long enough to end it with a drink. Heroics aren't my thing, really, I just owe this." "If you say so, just don't get offed." Jarred sighed, considering taking Eric's advice on the drink, but figuring he'd be needed now that the Kore had attacked. This was close enough to a victory as he'd get in the matter, so he'd take it.

"Hey, computer nerd," Syx stepped lightly across the street, giving Jarred a wide wave. She still wore her marshal jacket, fired from the job or not she insisted it was too comfortable a jacket to give up. She slowed to a stop, her stance slightly loose.
"I've heard you're one of the political players. So why no cheers and celebrating? Seems like your side is getting something of a boost at the moment. Hell, Ona, is having one of her drama attacks at the moment, but it serves her right, fighting for the side of 'peace and co-existence.'" Syx shook her head, "When I first found out my sister was pushing that case, I was damned tempted to knock her out and replace her for a day or two. Being identical does have some advantages. But I've never liked debating without guns. The hell is the point of debating if you can't shoot at someone for being stupid?"
She smiled, showing the classic dimple. "So, you heading back to the blah-blah-blah session? Or do you have time for a celebration drink?"

Bryne and his ship were halfway to Osis before Bryne finally took a moment to relax and breath. "The commanding vessel gone sick, the Earth attack turned sour. Lankin better know what he's doing, or we'll all fall apart." Bryne brushed a hand through his hair, "He should use the damned stone more, drain the thing of whatever power it has."
"Sir?" One of the men interuppted Bryne's little dramalogue, a look of concern on his face. "It looks like the fleet is being followed."

The Star's Light was tearing after Bryne's ship, bearing directly on it. It was closing distance, and closing it fast, leaving maybe five seconds for reaction before it was inside of firing range.

((Usually you text me when I need to post, so it's not like you had to go far to notify me. And I ALWAYS answer your texts. Why? Because that's what friends do. But if this is how we're gonna play the game, then fine.))
Hattie nodded. "Pendari is the name I knew her by." Hattie chuckled to herself. "Wanna hear about the time we dressed up as leathery Hookers?" Her heart was silently breaking in her chest with the silence from her lover and the loss of a good friend. Maybe she was loosing them both.
