Aine smiled relieved that he'd hunt for her. Of course, he'd hunt for you, silly. she said to herself. He loves you, he'd do anything for you, just as you'd do anything for him. She nuzzled him back and then watched him as he left, before stretching and slipping out to do some minor work around the cave to clean it up a bit.

That was another thing that was striking her as slightly odd, besides a gnawing hunger. It was a sudden rush of energy and a need to do things. She hummed slightly to herself as she worked dragging in some soft bracken to flesh out the bed a bit more and just tiding up in general. She was half way through when a suddenly flash of pain shot through her lower abdomen. Aine winced and sat down whimpering slightly and rubbing her stomach. "Hungry..." she muttered to herself before getting up and working a bit more, her previous good mood slowly melting away as she felt slightly more and more annoyed with nothing in particular.

She eventually settled herself down on the bedding and closed her eyes trying to get herself under control. Her tail lashing back and forth. Where is Foggy? she wondered slightly annoyed, but instantly feeling bad about it. What's wrong with me? she wondered curling up to doze until her mate returned.

Foggy was in luck; by the time he scented rabbits, a particularly fat one was feeding nearby. He licked his lips and tore after it, his long legs easily outpacing it. He killed it with a swift bite, murmuring thanks, as he had always done, to StarClan, his warrior ancestors. Thanking them for prey was good manners, something every warrior did. Even in a dragon's body, I will always be a warrior cat, he thought to himself wryly. The second rabbit took a little longer to catch, and he decided to wait for a third one. Aine could have first choice of rabbit and he could eat the rest. Proudly he carried the prey back to the cave.

Funny; they said that first impressions were the most important. In a way, his first life had left a deep impression on him. Those must be my two most important lives, he thought. My life...well, my first life as a cat. My first life at all. Funny, but he could barely remember what she looked like now...the smell of moorland was faint, the smell of milk and rabbit...when he thought of love, it was Aine's beautiful face that showed, her scent that pushed through into every follicle on his pelt.

Foggy slipped back into the cave, dropping the rabbits at Aine's nose, nuzzling her gently. "Breakfast time, my dear," he murmured softly.

Aine's nose twitched as the scent of fresh meat and blood reached it. "Hmm..." she looked up at Foggy and smiled faintly before frowning slightly as her stomach rumbled. "Took you long enough." she snapped irritably. She then sighed and shook her head. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean that..." she said looking down at the rabbits. Her stomach complained loudly and her mouth watered and she winced again as pain shot up through her lower abdomen again. But she couldn't help herself as she heard herself snipe. "Did you have to bring them in here? I don't want blood in here." she fussed catching up the rabbits and taking them outside. What is wrong with me!? she wondered. Why do I keep snapping at him? I don't mean it. she sighed and laid them down outside, her eyes darting over them before she snatched two and began to tear into them, hunger and need over running the fact she should have left more for Foggy.

She didn't care right now though as she ripped into rabbits. Snapping up entrails and cracking bones for marrow before carefully eating those as well. She only stopped as the polished off the last one licking blood off her muzzle for ever drop before looking at Foggy. "I'm sorry...." she whispered. "I don't know whats wrong with me today..."

Foggy's smile melted off his face when Aine snapped at him. His ears flicked back, his earring flapping against his neck, as he took a step backwards. "Sorry," he said quickly. "The rabbits were being cautious today. Foggy couldn't help but chuckle at his mate's growling stomach. He felt hungry himself and waited for her to take her pick. Again he flinched under the lash of her sharp tongue. "I'm sorry," he said again. "I'm just getting used to living with you, remember, I don't know what your preferences for dencleaning are..." Helplessly, Foggy took the other rabbit and sat a few tail-lengths away from her to give her the privacy she seemed to need. What's wrong with her? he wondered desperately. She never snaps...she's not...not...my first mate. She snapped all the time...

Foggy shook his head and ate neatly, watching as Aine consumed every portion of the rabbit, one eyebrow raised. "Wow...you were really hungry..." he murmured. He sighed and shook his head. "It's all right, Aine. You were hungry; that tends to make a body short-tempered." He smiled and nuzzled her, licking her muzzle gently.

Aine curled into her mate as he licked her she leaned up and carefully cleaned his muzzle before leaning against him closing her eyes tight curling her tail tight around him. "I'm so sorry, Foggy...." she said with a whimper. "I don't know what's wrong with me! I feel so strange! So out of sorts. I know I'm not acting like myself, but I just can't seem to help it." she moaned tears falling quietly from her eyes. "I don't want to upset you!" she said and shuddered slightly as the pain lanced up her body again. "Oh Foggy! I feel so lost right now!" she cried softly against him and curled as tightly as she could into him trembling.

Foggy nuzzled her gently, listening to what she had to say. It hurt to hear her so worried, especially since when he closed his eyes, he realized it didn't matter. "It's all right, Aine," he murmured softly. "I know you wouldn't hate me for something as petty as doing something wrong. You'll still love me, I know you will." He gently licked away her tears, curling his tail around her and letting her lean against him. What could be causing her to act so upset? "What's wrong?" he asked. "Are you in pain? Is your paw bothering you? I wish I knew what to do for aches and pains...I'm a warrior, I was never trained in the practice of healing..." He closed his eyes and tried to remember what was good for relieving pain.

Aine shook her head. "No, its not my paw." she said. "Though it still hurts a bit." she said. "I just...Its...." she fumbled trying to explain. "It hurts, here...." she said leaning back and placing his paw on her lower abdomen with a slight blush. "It comes and goes in little flashes." she said leaning back against him before letting out a sad sigh. "I wish I'd been around my mother longer...she would know, and been able to tell me..." she said.

She rested her head against Foggy and gently nuzzled his chest. "I'm tired..." she murmured. "Don't know why..." she said shivering again at another flash of pain.

Foggy frowned and gently nosed Aine's abdomen. Something was clicking into place in his head. Several years as a dragon and (as part of his brain implied) a bizarre sort of fox had made him almost forget about some of the more natural processes. His eyes grew wide and he drew Aine closer, afraid that his next words might anger her or turn him against her. "Aine..." he began softly, "...you're...er...I made you...pregnant." He gulped. "The pains, they're the eggs forming in your, well...they're the eggs. Egg. Eggs." He nuzzled her gently, hoping that she wouldn't hate him. "I'm sorry."

That wasn't the only memory to come back. His head shot up. "Poppy seeds," he murmured.

Aine's eyes widened slightly as he pulled her closer. Shock registering on her features. "I'm....pregnant...?" she gasped. She looked up at him not with anger or hate, but a mixed part of joy and fear. "I...I'm going to be a Mommy again?" she said with a bright smile, tears of joy in her eyes. "Oh, Foggy! How could I be angry!? I found you, we're together again, and we're going to get our son! At least I hope so, girls would be okay too. But, Oh, Foggy!!!!" she laughed and clung tightly to him laughing and crying.

"We're going to be a family again!" she said happily. "I love you Foggy! I'd endure this a hundred times for you! You're worth it! You'll always be worth it!" she purred.

Foggy nuzzled Aine in a daze. Several emotions raced through his mind; the confusion was fastest on its feet. Wait...I've implanted your belly with parasitic lifeforms that cause you pain as they form, make you clumsy and ungainly, and cause you incredible and intense agony as they force their way out of your tail end...and you're happy?! Foggy shook the thought away. He couldn't understand it, but it must be a mother thing. He would never be able to understand it, let alone share the pain.

Second came joy; a joy soaring and beautiful, an eagerness to see their son. He was sure there would be a son; there would always be a son. He purred and clung to her. "I can't wait to see our son--sons...daughters...however many there are. I'm sure they'll be as gorgeous as you are." He grinned, trembling in sudden excitement.

"And as handsome and strong as you." she said with a purr. She twitched her tail around him and nuzzled close a deep sense of peace settling over her.

~~~
The next week was miserable for Aine and she knew she was making Foggy miserable as well but she couldn't help it. There were moments though when she'd catch her reflection in a stream and have to stop and smile sitting to quietly reflect on the life that was growing in her swollen belly. Of course for every one or two of those there were just as many moments, if not more, where she'd storm around their home depressed and upset or angry and snappish.
And then the day finally came. The pain started in the small hours of the morning causing Aine to snap awake from her position curled up next to Foggy. She froze panting as the sensation faded slowly. She looked over at her mate and smiled. He'd been so wonderful to her the last few days, even when she'd been absolutely horrid to him, she winced slightly from both an intense wave a pain that crawled up her body and from her behavior. She'd make it up to him, even if it took all of this life and the next she'd make it up to him for being so wretched.
She then groaned loudly as the pain overwhelmed her senses. She clutched at the branches that made up their bed and writhed slightly in agony. "Fog....Fog...Foggy!!!!" she gasped out closing her eyes and swallowing back tears. "FOGGY!!!" she groaned. "Foggy it hurts!!" she gasped bursting into uncontrollable tears at first thinking something was wrong, before calm rational instinct kicked in. Deep breaths... it said to her. You're not losing them...they're simply coming to you now. Deep even breaths...it'll be over soon. Aine bite her lip and let out a long shuddering breath as she trusted the instincts of her body and not the memories she relied on so much from her former life. She took a deep breath and then calmly looked at her mate. "There coming..." she manged to say, coral eyes full of pain before she groaned again with another contraction.
Over the next week, Foggy tried to keep his spirits up and not be sunk low over his mate's snappishness. Every time he thought about snapping back at her, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes, remembering that as a male, it was his fault she was pregnant, his fault she was so moody. He tried to keep up with her whims and bad moods, showing affection to her whenever possible.
He was in the middle of a dream that he didn't quite remember when Aine started to wake him up. He wasn't quite sure about the dream...later all he remembered was swaying grass and wind in his fur. When Aine called out his name, he thought at first it was the sigh of the wind...Fog...Fog...Foggy...FOGGY!!! The last woke him up suddenly, blinking in the darkness. Half awake, what she said barely registered on his mind. Until he heard the words. Instantly, Foggy was wide awake. He sat up quickly. "What can I do, Aine?" he asked, his heart racing. So soon? Will she be all right? Poor Aine...
Aine groaned and shuddered, her body trembling in pain. "I...I..." She screamed in pain fighting with herself to keep her body relaxed instead of tensing up like she wanted too. She panted and closed her eyes tight, claws digging into the branches again. She was torn between keeping Foggy here and sending him away. While her mate was a comfort to her, the bitter angry part of her resented him for doing this to her.
She trembled and shook before slowly looking up at him eyes full of pain and hating herself a bit for doing this to him. "Just...go...please...? I...I..." she hissed and grabbed a branch easily biting through it as she convulsed. "I can't have you see me like this!!!" she screamed out. She then looked up at him eyes full of love and pain. "Please!! I...I love you....Just....just for now..." she moaned and then continued. "Go hunt....something! Please Just Get OUT!" she yelled the last part a slightly harsh edge to her voice that she instantly regretted. "Oh Foggy, Foggy I love you! Just...Just...Just go before I make you hate me!!!" she sobbed and trembled in pain moaning as another contraction hit her.
Foggy tried not to panic as he watched Aine scream and writhe. He hated seeing her struggle like this--it made him feel worried and guilty, helpless...so helpless...He was almost relieved when she forced him out. "I'll...I'll be back..." he whispered, and bolted. He ran down the scree leading up to the cave and into the forest, his mind racing. Poppy seeds. Willow bark. Both good for pain...
He hated to leave Aine like that. She was in pain...she might need his help...he might have to risk her wrath, but if herbs would help her by dulling the pain, then it would be well worth the risk of her tongue to come near her again. Wrong season for poppies...willow bark, then...but doesn't it need to be boiled in water? Foggy wished he knew these things, but he was only a warrior, a hunter, not a medicine cat! He plunged into the forest, searching out a willow and pulling off some of its bark. He turned back and rushed up to the cave, hesitating at the entrance. "Aine...?" he called out cautiously.
Aine tried to keep herself calm as she struggled on the floor of the cave. She broke several branches in her mouth as she kept from screaming to loudly. The smell of pine and cedar hung heavy in the cave and the taste of sap was stuck in Aine's mouth. It made her want to be sick but she refused to be so as she trembled on the bedding. Time seemed to melt away as she laid there. She gasped for breath between her contractions and focused on those brief moments of relief during the waves of pain. She wasn't sure how long she stayed there before the world seemed to tilt and it all ended. She trembled and turned herself weakly to look down at what she'd struggled to bring into the world and found her self looking at two perfect eggs. "Oh...." she breathed and curled herself around them lovingly.
Her ears perked as she heard Foggy and hoarsely called out to him. "Come in...." she called. "Its...its over now..." she said before sinking down tiredly to nuzzle and hold her children close to her.
