Keiran beamed brightly when she called Mini cute and he suddenly felt very proud of Jamie - not that he wasn't before, but he was usually proud that she was his sister and that she was a wolfrider, not because she had made a cute plush. Even if she hadn't, he would've loved whatever gift she had given him, because he knew she took a lot of time and thought to create such a perfect gift for him. He couldn't ask for a better sister.

"Mini's been keeping me very safe, haven't you?" Keiran said to the plush, nuzzling his nose against its cloth one, before grinning at Angel. "Mini was the one who found you for me, because he told me to run this way when we were escaping Bigfoot." Which was kind of true because the plush had been weighing against one side of his coat, so that was the direction he ran... right into an angel.

"So what are you doing out here in the cold? Aren't you cold?" he suddenly asked Angel, clutching the plush close to him as he glanced at her curiously. Keiran had only ventured outside because the Drill Sergeant made him, otherwise he would've stayed in the warmth (and safety) of the academy building.

Angel couldn't help it as the smile spread across her face. This boy was just too adorable for words. She felt the nagging urge to hug him, but they had only just met. For all she knew, it might very well frighten him into another Bigfoot-escape-run, screaming included. She certainly didn't want that to happen....and definitely not another concussion-incuding fall.

"Well then, I'm glad he did so." She said as he told her that Mini found her for him, "I got a chance to meet someone very sweet because of him." She smiled gently to him and then thought about his next question. Consierably off-topic, but it proved a valid point. It didn't hit her till just now that the chill was reaching through her warm clothes and grazing her skin.

"I like being outside. It gives me a chance to think clearly, because it's usually quiet." She pulled her knees up close to her so she could retain some warmth, holding her precious notebook to her chest. "I find that nature makes me calm and it helps bring my innermost thoughts forward so I can really see them, hear them and feel them. That way, when I write I can really convey the words with the meaning I want them to hold. I've even stood outside in the middle of a thunderstorm once, just so I could get the right perspective on the rain. I had a cold for a week."

Angel giggled at the memory. In fact, she had done a lot of things like that and it helped her get a hardier immune systen. She could almost withstand any kind of illness...but there were moments where she did fall pray to a cold or something of the like.

Keiran blushed slightly at her compliment of calling him sweet, a sight that was rare to behold as the boy was usually beyond embarassment - but only because he never understood enough to be properly embarassed. Not that he really understood what people meant when they called someone 'sweet,' because how would they know if they had never tasted the person? Or maybe they had, but he was certain Angel hadn't licked him.

Nevertheless, the light blush stained his cheeks for some unknown reason as Keiran felt that his new friend had said something extremely kind to him. He hugged the plush tighter against his body as he grinned up at her, still as bright and alert as ever. "I think you're sweet," he responded with a giggle, deciding that it must be true. Someone as kind and pretty as Angel must taste like candy. Then he glanced quickly to the side before whispering, "I think the Drill Sergeant is bitter. And Nightwing must taste like poop!"

Glancing at Angel curiously, he still couldn't understand why people liked being outside in the cold, but that didn't really matter. After all, few understood why he and Lora looked so hard to find Fairyland. But Keiran was in awe, quite impressed that this girl had the courage to stand in the middle of a thunderstorm.

"Weren't you afraid the Thunderbird would hit you with lightning?" Keiran asked with wide eyes. He had heard that thunderstorms were caused by a giant electric bird flying around in the rain, mad because it didn't like water. Or so Lora said.

Seeing the blush that appeared on his cheeks at her compliment made her smile all the more. Even if he didn't fully understand what she meant, seeing the reaction was nice. She might have to explain later what someone actually means when they describe a person as "sweet." Her assumption was confirmed when he described the Drill Sergeant and his sadstic wolf, along with their presumed tastes. Still, it was funny and she giggled at the idea. He probably wasn't far off the mark.

"Well, thank you." She said to his compliment of her being sweet, "And as far as being afraid, I sort of was. I mean...it's scary. The flash of deadly electricity and the sound that comes with it; it all makes for one rather frightening event. But I find it beautiful, in a way. Deadly things have a sort of preditorial beauty, especially if nature made it so. A scene and a sound so immense that it leaves you in awe and fear of it. It's a wonder and a danger; a lot like the wolves, actually.

"Besides that, I've sort of learned to push fear aside. My father used to say that fear was practical, but not to be indulged to the point of hiding from the world itself. I think it was the only really good advice he ever gave me that I took."

Keiran decided that the angel talked a lot, which made him rather happy. He didn't mind that he couldn't understand most of what she said - only because he had a short attention span and had a hard time listening to more than one sentence at a time, unless it was said by the Drill Sergeant. Besides, he rather liked her voice, and simply hearing it put him in a good mood.

Nodding vigorously, Keiran silently agreed with everything Angel said because he figured she was probably right - she seemed like a smart girl. But when the word wolf was filtered into his wandering mind, he immediately perked up. "Have you ever ridden a wolf?" he asked randomly, eyes wide with curiousity and even a little bit of wonderment.

"I heard it's nothing like riding a horse, but I wouldn't know because I've never ridden anything. Except my brother's back, but that wasn't very fun because he had a hard back and he wasn't very good at crawling around. Do you think a wolf will be more comfortable? I really want touch a wolf's fur, but Nightwing scares me," Keiran ranted with growing excitement, each sentence coming out faster than the one before. But he finally had to stop at the last statement to catch his breath, and the memory of nearly being bitten by Nightwing stopped him - that wolf definitely did not like to be touched.

Angel had paused in her speech finally, thinking more on things her father had told her through his various lessons. And still she found time to look for beauty in things. Perhaps it was because of his overbearing nature of practicality that she developed the need to look for beauty in random things.

To his question if she had ever ridden a wolf, she looked to him curiously as if she were trying to register the meaning of the question itself. She then shook her head.

"No, I've never ridden a wolf." She spoke thoughtfully, smiling slightly. "I kind of wish I had a chance, though. I'm sure it's more difficult than the wolfriders make it look. Still, it might come naturally...who knows?"

She smiled brightly to him, eager for the chance to bond. Her birthday was looming a little bit nearer and she awaited it with quiet anticipation. Still, there was a lot she had to concentrate on before any of that happened. She looked to her new friend and quietly hoped that when it came time for him to try to bond, there would be a wolf for him. She wished for that as much as she wished that there was one out there somewhere for her.

"Do you think you'll find a wolf for you? Maybe if you're lucky, he'll be just like Mini."

Keiran started thinking as Angel answered his question. Nobody he had met at the academy had ridden a wolf before, which he thought was really sad. Shouldn't they have the chance to ride a wolf and see if they like it? What if they didn't like riding a wolf, but then they bonded and they had no choice? To him, it was kind of depressing, and the fact that the mental connection was more important than the actual wolf riding escaped his mind. Keiran had trouble thinking on more than one track at a time.

"I have the perfect idea!" Keiran suddenly shouted as he clapped his hands together. He looked at Angel with the brightest grin he could muster, still mentally patting himself on the back for such a genius idea. "I think we should all ask the Drill Sergeant to ride his wolf! Wouldn't that be the perfect training session for people who want to be wolfriders? I bet Nightwing is really hard to ride." The fact that riding Nightwing was only better than riding Feral didn't register in his mind - Keiran thought it was perfect.

"But I wouldn't want a wolf like Nightwing, he's too mean," Keiran commented as he scrunched his face at the thought of having a wolf that chased after everybody else. Then he smiled as he looked down at Mini. "No, Mini looks like my sister's wolf, and I wouldn't want to take him away from her. But I want a really nice and playful wolf. What about you?"

Angel could see the sadness in his eyes as he seemed to think about her answer of never having ridden a wolf. If anything, she wasn't sure it was really allowed; to ride another wolfrider's wolf just to see how it felt, even if you knew them. Considering the mental and emotional bond between wolf and rider, having another person ride them could possibly be considered something akin to adultry. The very notion of the idea made her shudder.

With his sudden idea of asking the Drill Sergeant to RIDE Nightwing, her normally calm eyes grew rather wide as she looked upon Keiran with a mix of shock and horror.

"I'm sorry, but....are you insane?!" Angel said with a level, yet somewhat terrified voice. "Not only do I think that the Drill Sergeant would never even consider any of the recruits worthy of riding a wolf, let alone HIS, but I also think that Nightwing wouldn't even let anyone come within five feet of him with the intention of riding him. Even if the Drill Sergeant did say it was alright, it seems Nightwing is more interested in EATING us. Asking to ride him might be the thing that would push him over the edge and actually devour someone." She had seen and heard about how Nightwings treated some of the recruits....especially in training sessions.

"I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but the idea is a little wreckless considering Nightwing's personality. I wouldn't like to see or hear about you getting hurt." Her voice had calmed a bit and was then laced with concern. It was true; she didn't want to see Keiran be hurt. She might end up smothering him with hugs.

"You mean what kind of wolf I'd want?" Angel tilted her head a bit and looked to the side in thought. She never really thought about what kind of wolf she wanted or might be looking for. "Well....geeze, I'm not sure. Strong, probably. Nice, maybe a little stern but also understanding...or even a little bit laid back. Confident in themselves to work hard, but willing to accept mistakes and move on." In a round-about way, she realized she was hoping for someone to be her balancer; the Yin to her Yang.

Keiran still had images of him riding on Nightwing, or maybe Rainingwind, he couldn't really tell because he was just sitting atop a dark wolf and wasn't too bothered about the exact details of who the wolf was. But he'd rather thought that the wolf must be so soft and cuddly... he'd always wanted to throw his arms around Rainingwind's neck and hug him, except it seemed rather rude. Kind of like running up to a stranger and hugging them.

Faintly listening to Angel as he continued to ride through his fantasies, Keiran heard her say something about Nightwing eating him. Then his daydream turned violent as said wolf threw him off - it turned out to be Nightwing - and started chasing him like the snow monster had done before. A shiver ran down his body as he shook his head to rid himself of the frightening image, and he looked at Angel.

"Oh, you're right, it wouldn't be very fun riding Nightwing. What if he threw us off and ate us!? You think the Drill Sergeant would save us?" he asked curiously. But Keiran had an idea that the Drill Sergeant would probably stand by and laugh. Yes, that seemed like the more accurate description.

"Strong and nice," Keiran echoed her thoughts, nodding as he decided that was the kind of wolf he'd want too - probably everyone, actually. But from what Ylora and Jamie had told him, you didn't get to choose. They chose you, or something like that. Would he be good enough to be chosen?

"I would hate for a scary wolf like Nightwing to choose him," he commented with a grin, though Keiran knew that was quite possible. Scary.

Angel could only imagine that he was visualizing what it might be like to ride a wolf. She thought he might not have heard what she had been saying. Imagine her pleasant surprise when he suddenly seemed to pay attention.

"I would think that the Drill Sergeant would not let him actually eat us.....just chase us around like toys." She had a grin on her face despite herself. It was a funny thing to think about. Some twisted part of her wanted to antagonize Nightwing so she could see if she ran faster than he did.

"Well, it's true. We can't really choose them or predict what their personalities will be like. All we can do is hope for the best." She started playing with a pile of snow, trying to make it into a miniature snowman. "I've been told that the wolf chooses you. They connect with your mind and emotions. Seems also like the wolves are paired in ways that compliment the riders."

Now Keiran had an image of Nightwing chasing after the two of them, and that wasn't a pleasant image either. Too many bad fantasies in one day, he thought, looking over as he noticed Angel playing with the snow. That reminded him of something he used to do whenever Ylora visited - they'd make snow angels! Keiran fell backwards into the snow with a giggle, slowly scissorings his arms and legs.

"Then I definitely don't think I'll get a mean one like Nightwing," he commented, though he wasn't all that sure if that would be true or not. All the wolfriders Keiran had met so far were compatibly bonded, but Ylora had told him that some of her friends were bonded with wolves that were complete opposites of them. What if that happened to him? Did that mean his wolf would be as mean as Nightwing?!

Keiran vaguely wondered what kind of wolf Angel would bond to - she seemed really sweet and he hoped she got a nice wolf. But now that he thought about it, he didn't know much about her. Curiousity got the better of him as he paused in his snow angel making and turned his head in her direction. "How long have you been here? How old are you? Why do you want to be wolfrider? Have you ever seen a centipede?"
PostPosted: Fri Mar 06, 2009 3:33 am

Angel smiled a bit as she heard him confident that he would not find himself bonded with a wolf like Nightwing. Good thing, too. She couldn't imagine him with such a creature. Still, Nightwing was beautiful for his sadistic preditorial nature....emphasis on the sadistic part.

Hearing him fall back, she blinked and looked up from her small snowman to see him laying in the snow and attempting to swim. She giggled as he tried to make a snow angel. How long had it been since she tried to make one herself? Too long. Maybe she'd join him. With that, she also fell backwards into the snow with a thump and started that scissoring motion with her arms and legs, feeling like she was five years old again...when she made her first snow angel. She was so proud of herself that day.

Keiran then assaulted her with questions about her. She listened to each one and paused, looking up at the sky.

"Well, lets see.....I've been here since I was fourteen, so three years. Almost four, actually. I'm seventeen now, going to be eighteen in the early spring. Coming to the academy was my parents' idea, but I love it here. I want to be a wolfrider because I think it would be a wonderful experience; to be bonded like that, to share the experiences in mind and soul and to be able to defend others. It would give me something to be proud of...and make my parents proud."

She paused for a moment. "I did see a centipede, once. I was ten and it was probably foraging. I don't even think it saw me. I was playing and I saw something move off to the side. I went to look and I saw a small centipede crawling around the brush. I was shocked to stillness. I waited till it left before I ran home, scared out of my wits. I mean, I had heard so many stories....so I was frightened."

[OoC: Erm, technically, Angel couldn't have seen a centipede. Only wolfriders encounter centipedes when they leave the valley - normal residents aren't allowed to leave the valley, nor do they even have the means to sneak out.]

Most people thought that lying in the snow would be cold and wet. They were somewhat correct about the latter, but Keiran was wearing a winter coat especially designed for snow, so he wasn't getting soaked too much. The coat wasn't a perfect design, but he was having too much fun to care about the mild wetness that was probably forming on his back. Then all the arm and leg movement was warming him up very nicely - his face was probably red from all the giggling.

But this was the first time in a few weeks Keiran had been able to relax and play around like this. Usually he did that with Lora, but the girl had been MIA for the past few weeks; not an odd occurrence since she had a habit of coming and going whenever she liked. Yet somehow, she still made it to all her classes and training sessions. Seems like he had a new companion now to join in his fun, he thought as he looked over at Angel with a grin, watching as she moved in the snow and answered his questions.

"Oh wow, I've only been here a year," Keiran said with admiration, not sure if he would be able to last three years here. Not that he didn't want to be here, but the Drill Sergeant and his wolf were mean. They must've insulted him many times, but it helped that he didnt understand the majority of what he said. That and his sisters had told him that the meaner your teacher, the better you became if you could get through it. So he took it all in stride, hoping to one day be as strong as Jamie and Ylora. That was why he had joined up, after all. Because he had seen his sisters ride around so majestically, gaining all those awed glances from people in the City - Keiran wanted to be just like them. A wistful expression crossed his features as he glanced up to the sky. "I want my sisters to be proud of me."

Angel's next statement caught him by surprise, and Keiran sat straight up as he stared at his friend with wide eyes and mouth agape. "You've seen a centipede?! That must have been so scary! The first time my sisters saw centipedes, they said they were so scared and all that training barely kicked in! You must have been so brave to see a centipede and not scream! I think I would've screamed and run away."

((Sorry about the late reply. Haven't been feeling that great lately and dealing with work stress. I'm aware of the limitations for the humans. ^_^ I had a plan for her saying such.))

Angel watched him with amusement, seeing his cheeks and nose turning red from a mixture of his laughter and the cold air. She was surprised that he wasn't shivering yet, but then again...laughter can do wonders. It also helped that he was moving his limbs. She listened intently to him, a little surprised that he had only been here a year.

When she saw the reaction to her centipede statement, she shook her head a little bit.

"It's a little difficult for me to see a cenipede when normal humans aren't allowed outside of the valley," She sat up and pulled her knees up to her chest, a gentle smile of concern on her face. "Which is why you can't completely believe everything someone tells you. It worries me to think that you might get in trouble with someone because you were misinformed.

"If there is one thing I've learned so far, it's that correct communication is important.....especially if you are in a battle situation or any kind of situation where the wrong communication could cost you or your pack your lives." She spoke in a completely serious tone, but on a soft voice and slowly so he could understand her.

"I'm not trying to scare you or tell you that everyone is lying to you all the time. I'm just trying to make sure you don't take everything literally without making sure that something is true or false.....so you are safe and out of trouble. I really like you and I don't want to see my new friend hurt or in trouble."

[OoC: Don't worry, because I reply really slow too... and I don't even have a good reason other than pure laziness, lol. And I hope you feel better soon. =( I thought you might've had a reason, which is why I responded to it anyways. XD]

Keiran watched her intensely as he waited for her answers to his questions, eyes wide with curiousity and mouth pulled into an admiring smile. But when Angel shook her head, his features dropped slightly and he wondered if he had done something to disappoint her? That would not have pleased him because he didn't want to be the reason his new friend was unhappy!

"Oh," he responded softly to her answer, suddenly realizing what she said was probably true. Keiran had always lived in the City and it had never been a question about leaving the City walls, much less leave the valley - nobody had told him not to do it either, since they figured he would be smart enough to avoid any place with centipedes. But upon entering the Academy, the instructors had said something about the Forts being the only exits. Now that he thought about it, he doubt the wolfriders would've allowed anyone to leave.

"But... why would someone lie to you during a battle? Wouldn't that cause a lot of problems?" he asked, understanding her explanations but not able to wrap his head around the fact that your fellow wolfrider would endanger you like that. Keiran frowned slightly, knowing that not everyone in the world was as kind as Angel, but to do it on purpose during a life or death battle? That was wrong.

"I really like you too!" he replied with a wide grin, nodding his head as he sat up as well. Keiran opened his arms - he wanted to hug her! That was what friends did, wasn't it?
