The panda smiled brightly and nodded. "Suuuure! Fanks!" she agreed, accepting the proffered food. Well, if anything could win her good favor and opinion, it was offering something edible for the girl to nosh on.

The little panda's enthusiasm was adorable and Casia couldn't help but grin too. "Welcome." she chimed and took another bit of her own half of the sandwich. Jane watched them curiously. The guardian hadn't been around earlier in Casia's life and things like this that showed Casia knew how to share and manners were important. Jane had to know what to teach her, after all. But the siren felt Jane's gaze and looked at her quizzically. Jane smiled and turned to Dartsmoore. "I'm not her first mother." she explained so the other woman wouldn't think she was a weird, obsessive guardian. "I don't know whether she knows about sharing or anything yet."

Shiraz nibbled happily on her half of the sandwich, liking the different things in it. Though pandas generally ate mostly plants, the girl had a rather healthy appetite for just about anything and as a result, was a little chubby. But for a baby, that was okay.

"Ah. I don't think Shiraz had a previous family - so far as I can tell I adopted her pretty soon after her arrival. But I can't tell with these types."

Casia had decided to like the toddler. It had been a tough choice, but it was pretty hard to dislike chubby babies, especially if one was of a feminine persuasion with a kind of girly disposition to match. She also liked te kid's straightforward answers. Humans went round and round in circles with their words, but this girl seemed to know what she was talking about. She finished up her half of the sandwich and looked at the counter pensively.

Jane nodded. "Casia's only been with me about a month." She looked down the counter at her. "We're still getting her settled in." A slight grimace suggested that this process had been rather trying and had probably involved a lot of sulking from the newcomer's end.

After the Panda girl had gotten relatively through the sandwich half, she decided to investigate what Casia was doing. Putting down the remains on the napkin next to her pickle, she took to staring pensively at the counter as well. Leaning over a bit as she did, the toddler whispered her question to the siren.

"What are we staring at?"

Dartsmoore nodded, "Mm, some of them just don't settle in. I've had my one son all of his life and he still refuses to settle in with his siblings. But he keeps to himself and that's all I can or want to really ask of him."

Casia looked startled. "Um..." She had been looking at the counter, but her thoughts had been somewhere else entirely. Somewhere more sireny than here. She distracted herself by goggling at the nearly-decimated sandwich half in Shiraz's hands. Didn't she just give her that? "Oh... Um, I wasn't staring at much." she explained. "Just thinking." She smiled. "You're done that already?" looking around for something else, she picked up her pickle slice. "Halfsies on this too?" Sharing was fun when the person you were sharing with was adorable and furry.

Jane looked down the counter again. "I hope Casia settles in." she said fervently. She wanted to be a mother, not an embarrassment. "I just want to be able to be someone she can trust." She fiddled with her sandwich embarrassedly. "But kids are a lot more complicated than I originally anticipated. There's all this..." She paused, thinking furiously. "Emotional stuff. It's not like in books or anything."

The panda girl's smile widened broadly. "Suuuuure! Fank you." This girl was really really nice! She gave Shiraz food, talked nice to her but didn't ask her weird questions or prod her to do things. That was cool.

"Books are completely useless when it comes to kids - they're all too different for that to really work. You could spend years upon years learning all the proper methods to raise and discipline a loudmouthed misbehaving child and end up with one that's completely sweet and quiet child who catches you off guard and gets you wrapped around their little finger." Dartsmoore commented, smiling a tad as she thought of her brood.

Casia split the pickle into two democratic halves, handing one part to the panda. "No problem, groovy girl. That's the last one though, so enjoy it." She wasn't about to share her soda too. Shiraz was cute, but there were limits, after all.

Jane looked worried. She believed in the power of words with the kind of fervor Jehovah's Witnesses dreamed of when they went out with pamphlets. The fact idea that something could not be helped with books was an alarming idea indeed. She bit her lip. Casia, she was fairly sure, had been wrapping her around her little finger, or at least making her spend a lot of money on things that were 'totally necessary' to making the siren feel at home, including a total redecorating of her room. Jane had agreed to all of this, partially because it was her fault Casia's room was unsatisfactory, but what next? Would Casia continue to make demands? She rested her head in her hands and looked back at Dartsmoore. "I think I'm starting to realize that." she said wryly. "But it doesn't make things much easier." She sighed. "Still, I think things will get better." Deep in her heart, Jane had always thought she had the stuff to raise a kid, and mythology geek that she was, a siren was just the kind of kid she had been waiting for. Even if the siren was a weird, 60's loving, quirky girl, Jane would just have to force herself to adjust.

"Fanks." Shiraz repeated, nibbling carefully on the pickle. It was almost odd to see her taking time with food but this was treated almost as a gift, moreso than the sandwich had been because it was the last one and was a pickle. Pickles were nummy.

Dartie smiled and ruffled the girl's soft furry bangs as she ordered them a couple of sodas. "Have you been filching her lunch, Shiraz?" the woman inquired with an amused smirk to which her daughter shook her head.

"Gave itta me." the monotone girl explained, grinning at Casia.

"Well, that was very nice of her."

Jane remembered as Dartsmoore went up for sodas- Though she and Casia were done, the others were probably trying to eat. She got up, and nodded to the siren. "We should be going now." she said gently, and the girl swung around in her chair to look at the woman disappointedly. Spending time with Shiraz had been peaceful. Little panda girls were cute and easy to understand, whereas other people were less so. But Casia was still wary about disobeying Jane, so she looked back at Shiraz and Dartsmoore and waved a hand. "Gotta beat feet, then." she said flippantly. "See you around?" Jane waved as well, relieved Casia had obeyed. "Nice to meet you. Enjoy your meal!" She reached for Casia's hand, but the siren dodged tactfully. Rolling her eyes, she settled for walking next to her ward as they left the deli.

The panda girl blinked a bit, sad and surprised to see her company going. Waving back, she nodded. "Bye, see you." she intoned in her strange mumbly speech.

Dartsmoore nodded politely to the pair, waving as well and taking up a seat at the counter to join her daughter. She was currently debating whether or not buying Shiraz anything more than the original pickle and her drink was necessary - she'd already had half a sandwich and half a second pickle so did she really need more food? Either way, it was lunchtime for Mommy and Bear.
