First off the Big Show wasn't always called the Big Show, when he was in WCW he was known as the Giant...remember? also i think they change their names just because their real names just seem kinda stupid...how could you respect someone named "Michael Shawn Hickenbottom"?

Well, to their characters, they pick names to match. (Or don't.)
Script writers pick their names and characteristics, or if they come from
another orginization or whatever, keep it.
When Mick Foley came over to WWE , (WWF at the time.) it was supposed
to be something like "The Muttilator". Instead, he changed it to "Mankind."
Undertaker had his name picked for him.
Out of wonder, did The Boogeyman get his name and character from the
movie called Boogeyman?
