Kunjufu didn't know if she liked the idea of leaving the tree, even for a moment, to fetch his stick for him. What if he wobbled while she was prancing off? She would certainly never forgive herself, and she would have to find his family to explain what happened, and some how make amends.
That didn't sound like a fun time. But still, she wasn't the over cautious type, so she made a deal with herself, which she shared after only a moment.
"If you get as close as you can to the trunk while you wait for me, and don't tumble off," she called. She watched him, decided he would be fine, then trotted off to pick up his stick. She was fast, graceful, and returned in moments. She climbed the tree without effort, barely rustling the leaves, and, holding the stick in her mouth, held it out to him.
Once he had it, she climbed back down the tree and waited for the bird nest to come down to her.
"I'm in position, boss!" she called, "just be careful!"

A'kigeni did as he was told without complaint. Falling out of the tree to his death wasn't something he really wanted to do, and he would have to wait for the stick anyway. He didn't mind waiting for her for the good of science. After all, that was what was really important in the end! He couldn't very well have gotten that far without her. She had been a good friend to him.
He leaned down and took the stck from her, smiling, "I'll be good, don't worry for a second Kunjufu." Then he clambered back up the tree and tried his best to get his footing back. It was a whole lot easier to poke at the nest with his stick than it had been with his paws. He was glad to have it.
He poked once... twice... three times and down it went! Much to the annoyance of the bird, but there didn't seem to be any eggs in the nest, so he managed not to get attacked while he was at it. Which was quite a relief, seeing as being murdered by birds hadn't been on his to-do list either.
"Here it comes!" He called down around his stick, and he watched it fall, hopefully safely into the waiting paws of the leopardess who had helped him so much that day. He hoped that she would stay to see the end of the experiment and see him put the spiders in the nest.

Kunjufu watched, sitting down in a place she felt would do well for it's trajectory. It turned out that she was not bad at math, estimating a good place to wait for the falling nest. It fell right toward her, and she raised herself leisurely onto her back paws, catching it in her front ones and taking it into her mouth with looking like she was even paying attention to it.
If she was going to do something this reasonably silly, she was going to look cool doing it. That was a philosophy she applied to many things. Pleased with herself, she stood up on her four legs and, holding the nest ever so carefully in her mouth, looked up at A'k. She ventured to say something, then realized she wouldn't be able to without putting the nest down. Doing so, she looked back up at him.
"Can you get down, then? Or should I come up and get you? Might be easier that way," she spoke as she moved to the try, climbing up just as easily as before to meet him near his branch. She waited patiently for his decision, perfectly happy to climb back down if he said he wanted to get down on his own, "either way is good by me, doc."

A'kigeni grinned brightly when he saw Kun catch the nest, and look very cool while she did it. He didn't know she was such a good catcher! Yes, she made quite a fine assistant. He couldn't help but be pleased, since now he would be able to complete is experiment without any problems at all, or so he hoped anyway.
He didn't think it was silly in the slightest, of course. And he especially liked it when she called him 'doc'. No one had ever called him 'doc' before. And he quite liked the way it sounded, especially when applied to him.
"Hum... perhaps I'll meet you halfway? So that I can get down the trunk? But I can get off of these branches..." He wasn't very good at dealing with tree trunks... they were simply too wide for the small boy to be able to deal with. But he was sure he would get better at it when he got older and could spread out more.
Yes, yes, he was certain he would be just fine then. "Just leave the nest at the base of the tree so nothing steals it! Then we can put the spider eggs inside!" He told her, making his way towards the trunk of the tree and off the easier-to-break branches above her.

She did as ordered, being almost theatrically dutiful about it. Hoping down from the tree as he navigated the branches, she retrieved the nest and moved it to its very specific place. She looked up at him, checking his position, before climbing back up the tree to help him down.
Carefully, she picked him up by the scruff of his fur and carried him down from the tree, placing him on the ground and stepping back to the nest. She picked it up and brought it to him, placing it near him so he could get a good look at it, to make sure it was still in the condition he wanted it to be.
"That looks like the perfect thing for your spider eggs. Now all we have to do is get them in it without hatching or breaking them, and it'll be ready for you to observe as long as you want. I'm sure your family will be thrilled," she smiled a bit, hiding her sarcasm expertly. If she had been his mother she doubted she would be too thrilled with baby spiders being brought en masse into the den.
But she was no one's mother. Just a helper.
"Come on, back to that dead bug." She said, nodding at him as she turned to return to the tree where they had met.

A'kigeni obediantly let her take him down from the tree, happy that he wouldn't have to set foot on the tree trunk. He really needed to work on getting bigger so that he wouldn't have to worry about things like that anymore. But then he wouldn't be able to get into the smaller branches either... and that simply wouldn't do him any good at all. When he got bigger he would have to find himself a little assistant who could do that part for him.
He nodded furiously when he got a better look at the nest. Then he picked up the stick and used it to lightly pick up the spider's on the back of the bug and put them inside. He was pretty happy that the nest was actually empty. He wouldn't have wanted to kill some poor little baby birds... Well, not when they were close enough that he would have been able to study their birthing habits anyway.
A'k then grinned up at his companion, "Isn't this great!? Do you know what great lengths we've taken towards the good of the world today? Huge ones that's what!" He said with a happy laugh of triumph. "I bet if I can study these spiders I'll be able to find out how they work... wouldn't that be cool? I could have spiders for assistants and pets! They can climb way better than we can!" He said... not really thinking about how less-than-impressed his mother would be about him bringing poisonous spiders anywhere near his home.
But then, A'k's mind didn't really work that way.

Kunjufu laughed.
"Well, I've never found bugs of any kind to be particularly... trainable, but you could maybe do it. I mean, you did get your nest and now you have your spiders. I don't think there's much you can't do, really. As much as I think your mom might be mad at me for helping you bring those things into your den, it was a fun little endeavor. I hope something good comes from your experiment."
Though, not little minions of creepy crawlies, she thought whimsically. She didn't add it out loud though.
"So, what's your plan now? I'd be happy to help you with anything else you might need."

"Now?" A'kigeni mentioned thoughtfully, looking at the nest, wondering how he would carry it... or even if he should. If his mother found it, she would probably kill them all, and then him. Or maybe him, and then the baby spiders. It was hard to say where her rage would be directed... especially since she didn't usualy get angry, just dissapointed. Even then, not really dissapointed, just exhausberated, and then she would say something like 'what am I going to do with you?' and the like.
"Well... I'm going to wait until the babies hatch, and then they'll be my minions." He told her, "And I'll keep them away from my mom... she wouldn't like that very much. But I hope some good comes out of it too. After all, I'm looking to advance our knowledge of... stuff? Yeah. Stuff. I want to make sure I can do my best." He beamed then, his white fur practically glowing with pride.
"But... really, this was my big plan for today. I don't know what else I'm going to do... I thought this would take me forever." He admitted, shrugging, though the grin did not dissapear, "You made an awesome assistant though! And don't worry, I won't tell mama that you helped me with the spiders. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble. You're my friend."

The green leopardess nodded, smiling broadly.
"Well, I guess I'll leave you to... whatever it is you've got planned for those little things. I'd probably get moving. Other people to help, and all that. I'm sure we'll meet again. I'm glad I won't be named in this little experiment of yours, if it means keeping everyone out of trouble, though if your mother ever needs any help at least now you know of someone to recommend."
She grinned, standing and moving way, swinging her tail behind her.
"I hope to see you again! We're friends now, like you said, so I'm sure it'll happen. When it needs to. Have fun with those spiders!" She smiled at him, looking back over her shoulder, then began to trot off, feeling content.

A'kigeni smiled and waved goodbye to her as she left. She had been so helpful, and had even called herself his friend! He would have to tell his mother that he had met another leopardess... except leave out the experiment part.
"Thanks for all your help! Be safe!" He called after her. Now he just had to find a good hiding spot for his experiment...
