Elliot took a deep breath and returned his gaze to her, even if she was now staring down at her paws. This was about the hardest thing he'd ever done. He'd never once dreamed of finding himself a mate, let alone in a girl that was about his complete opposite. But he certainly loved her, and he wanted to be with her, so long as he had breath in him.
"I'd really enjoy having you for a mate Aqua...." He took another deep breath, to prevent himself from stuttering, "I love you." As soon as the words escaped his mouth his face went completely red, but he'd never think of taking his words back.

Aquarius continued staring at the ground, still unable to comprehend what she had just heard. She hesitantly raised her head to meet his piercing red eyes with her own aquatic blue, and barely managed to squeak out the four words that she'd never thought she'd speak. "I...love you too."
As soon as the words were said, she wrapped her paws around herself and squeezed her eyes shut, as if wondering if this was just another wonderful dream. When she opened her eyes and saw that it wasn't, she squeaked a little and hurriedly stood up, blushing.

Elliot was a bit startled by her reaction. "You're not just saying that are you...?" He stared at her, his usually harsh red eyes had an unbelievably adorable look to them as he pondered their future. Had he done the right thing in asking for her to be his mate? He'd thought so....

"What do you mean?" Aquarius was utterly confused, now afraid that Elliot had gotten mad at her for who knows what reason. "I'm sorry, did I make you mad?" she whispered softly into the cool, wet sea breeze. She wasn't sure what he was asking of her; she only knew that she wanted to be with him no matter what.

Elliot smiled, a little reassured by her questioning. She was just shy, and he'd never thought he'd ever say anything like this before, so that combined made things a little awkward at first. But he was confident they could make it past that. "Oh don't mind me...I know nothing about girls and I should have realized you were just shy." He bent down and kissed the tip of her nose. "I hope we'll be together forever." He stared into her Aqua eyes, waiting for any kind of reply.

"Oh..." Aquarius's words trailed off as Elliot leaned in, and she felt a happy tremor pass through her as he kissed her nose. "I hope so too," she said in a much more normal voice, her heart full of love and wonder at the unexpected events that had unfolded on their little journey. She then smiled, and shook some of the sand off her fur, and stared back into the forest. "Should we be heading back now?" she asked.

Elliot smiled and pulled himself away. He stared out at the ocean for a few minutes. Debating whether their journey here was worth such a short stay, the repercussions of it was certainly nice. He couldn't believe he now had someone to spend the rest of his life with. He wondered about his travels, but decided the really only traveled because he had nothing better to do. Now he had Aquarius.
"Yes, I believe we should be heading back now..." He smiled and picked himself up and walked slowly toward the forest. "I think we can make a few, peasant stops along the way though. No need to be in a huge rush to get back." He smiled and waited for her to catch up before dashing into the forest, headed back home.
