Kyou's nervousness was just a tiny bit apparent, and Aki shot him a wry look. They'd known each other for a very long time...why wouldn't he be comfortable?! "Thank you. And don't worry!" Accepting the seat, Aki murmured her thanks as he tucked the chair in, and smiled across the table at him. Two new champagne flutes rose between them like miniature glass towers, and Aki's eyes twinkled over the crystal rim. "I promise...the evening will be crisis-free."
The last handful of times she's met with Kyou, it had usually been in a panic over Meli's health. At the beach party, Kyou had been so busy bartending (and Aki had been so busy drinking) they'd hardly had time to talk! Though she hadn't been expecting Kyou to walk through the door, she was genuinely looking forward to a chance to catch up. "I'm surprised you're here, but I'm glad to see you. Have you been busy as always?"
Pasha watched Laz fidget, still a bit wide eyed. What now? For a moment, she drew a blank, lips parting silently. Oh! That's right! "Now is the time I offer drinks! Then...I leave them to talk, and...maybe we can talk too! If you want to help, you can carry this one~"
Offering Lazarus the bottle of mineral water, Melisande smiled, and dropped her eyes. When Rivener had tried to be nice to her, she'd blown it horribly, due to old habits. This time, Meli had no expectations. If Laz wanted to leave, he would leave. But if he wanted to stay, maybe they could have a nice time together! Taking up her own tray, carefully balancing the bottle of champagne, Melisande drifted closer to the table. Hopefully Laz would follow.
Waiting for a break in conversation, Meli cleared her throat gently. Only a muse could make such a noise sound lovely! "Excuse me, Aki, Doctor! Would you like bubbly water, or bubbly wi-...or champagne?" She pronounced the word carefully, proud of herself for remembering. Taking a quick peek to Laz, seeing if he was ready, Pasha smiled. This was even more fun with company!

"Yeah." Kyou nodded. "Been busy getting the lab up and running again, what with the staff changing and new people coming in." he said, feeling more at ease now. Aki looked so beautiful that Kyou felt a wee bit underdressed. "How had you been doing? We haven't talked in a while, this is the perfect time to catch up!"
"Talking sounds good." Lazarus said quietly, accepting the bottle of mineral water from Meli. Truth to be told, he felt like he had a lot to talk to Meli, but he just don't know where to start. Maybe he should make an official apology later? The one he did last summer was somewhat... lackluster. For now, he just followed behind her obediently, letting her do her job as he stared at her back silently. He was somewhat unsure what to do still, so it's nice for Meli to lead him along in this situation.
Kyou blinked as Meli cleared her throat, that was probably the nicest sound produced from that gesture that he ever heard. It brought a smile to his face. "Hello Meli!" he beamed. "Champagne for me please."

"Hello Doctor! My pleasure~" Pasha positively beamed, leaning forward to carefully pour Kyou a glass of the golden champagne. She did not bend at the waist as much as arch gracefully over the edge of the table...her ruffly pink skirt tilting just enough to show the slightest hint of rune glow. After pouring a glass for both the Doctor and Aki, she drifted back from the table. Her wings were still held carefully in the ' cupid' position she'd seen on the cards...it wasn't the most comfortable, but it was rather cute! Waiting until Laz withdrew with her, Melisande offered the other Sigel a comforting, timid pat on the back of his hand. "I'm sorry they didn't want any bubbly water. I'm sure they will next time!" The muse used her sweetest whisper voice, trying not to disturb the conversation at the table. "I'm...glad you both could come. Did you see the invitation at the lab?" Pasha sounded hopeful, and just a bit proud. After all, it had not only been her idea...she'd actually written the card herself! Learning to write, especially the pretty loopy letters, had taken months and months. "Ah, new staff?" Aki didn't push the issue, but she sounded a bit sad. The only staffer she'd really gotten to know was Chloe, and it was a fair bet that the delicate woman's nerves had finally gotten the best of her. "I hope the training is going well. Not many jobs are a matter of life and death, I can understand it being a stressful transition." Though she wasn't watching Melisande, Aki patted the back of Kyou's hand almost the same moment that Pasha patted the back of Laz's. Whether it was simple coincidence, or the bond between muse and guardian, it was hard to say. Letting her slender fingers trail from the back of the doctor's hand, lips curved into a sympathetic half smile, Aki reclaimed her champagne glass and lifted it for a toast. "Here's to smooth sailing in the year ahead! I wish you clear skies, and lots of luck!" The little diamond resting in the hollow of her neck caught the light as she tipped the glass towards his in cheers, winking as though the wish had been heard.

Lazarus was watching Meli's back all the time, and he couldn't help but notice her wings looked awkward, uncomfortable even. He wondered if the female sigel was nervous too? Not catching the cupid reference since he don't follow romance stuff. Gulping quietly, he wondered if it was because of him.
Meli's sweet voice snapped him out of his thoughts though. "Ah, yeah I saw the invitation in the lab." he lowered his voice to a whisper too, influenced by Meli. He blushed a little when Meli touched his hand. "Did... did you write those? You have lovely handwriting." Lazarus said, smiling shyly. He should've known! Meli looked exactly like the type that would have that curvy, pretty handwriting. Moving back a bit, he prompted that they should leave the adults be and talk somewhere else. He don't know if it was Meli's soothing voice or something, but he don't feel so nervous now.
Yeah, the job transition was tough, since he had to lay off Chloe. That was the hardest thing to do in this whole ordeal. A small frown appeared on his expression as he remembered the very recent memory.
"Thank you for the concern, and the wishes. Cheers!" he said, voice tinged with a tiny bit of sadness. Tilting his glass forward, he tapped Aki's lightly before withdrawing it to his own lips, letting the sparkling juice flow into his mouth. Just like how smoothly the juices went down, he truly wish that everything will go smoothly this year.
"So how is Meli doing?" he asked, out of professional habit and also personal concern. It wasn't until a few seconds later that he realized his mistake. "Oh, how insensitive of me. This is not a professional meeting after all. Let me revise, how are you doing?" he chuckled, blushing a bit out of embarassment. This is a date with Aki, he should've known better to throw work out the window.

Melisande positively brightened at Laz's compliment, wings giving a single flap before folding more comfortably against her back. "Oh...thank you!" Following him silently for a moment, glowing a bit at his nice words (and the attention), Meli paused once they were at the other end of the terrace.
"It was nice of you to bring Doctor Kyou tonight. Do you both get to go out often?" She kept a few feet back, near the flickering lanterns, to give Lazarus his space. All the things that Rivener had taught her still remained, even if the hurt had faded. Tugging at the hem of her short, ruffly apron, Pasha kept her hands busy as they talked. Her tiny sweet smile never faded, but it was obvious that she was trying to be respectful...eyes searching Lazarus' face for any signs of displeasure.
"Not a professional meeting?" Aki laughed lightly and took a short sip of her champagne, swirling it a bit in the glass. "That makes it an official date then, doesn't it? I have to admit, I never imagined I'd be on a date with such a gentleman, much less a doctor!"
It was true. She'd known Kyou a long time, and it had never once occurred to her to consider him in anything but a professional context. Once he relaxed, he was actually quite charming! "She is doing well though, thank you for asking. Every time she sees Zavier, she glows for a week. Can't ask for more than that, really~" It was obvious, the way her voice changed, how much Aki cared for the muse. It meant the world to her to see Melisande happy...and she owed that happiness in no small part to Kyou.
Taking another sip, Aki finally addressed his revised question...her tone still a bit more subdued. "I'm doing okay, as well. A lot of things have changed, lately...but for the better, I think." Her ears dipped a bit as she smiled, the golden pins in her hair catching the light. "Life always has a way of surprising you! How about you and Laz? Aside from work, I mean. Is everything...as it should be?"

It was more comfortable being further away from the adults, Lazarus relaxed a bit as he lean on the railing. "Well, we do go out together sometimes when he needs help with groceries." he chuckled softly. "But come to think of it, we don't really go out often other than the grocery shoppings." Can it be considered sad? Being that way between him and Kyou? He thought as he stare off into the sky, contemplating. The stars had emerged in the clear night sky. Kyou is his guardian after all, so they are family right? Families do all sorts of things together.
"What about you? Do you and Aki go out together often?" he asked, turning away from the stars to look back at Melisande.
"You're too kind, Ms Aki." his face flushed a little from the compliments. Kyou was glad that Melisande had been doing so well lately though, that girl had went through a lot when she was younger, no thanks to his charge too.
"Oh? Meli and Zave are close?" This was certainly news to him though, he must admit that he doesn't know too well about the Raevan's social lives. The way Aki said it made it sounded like more than just a regular friendship. He made a mental note to ask Laz about this later, maybe he knows more about this.
"Glad to know that you're doing good too." he beamed. "Ah, me and Laz are doing good. He's been helping out in the lab lately, learning to write too, although his handwriting is more or less like a child's right now." he chuckled nervously, remembering the report Laz filled out for him the other day. "He haven't burnt anything or hurt anyone since the uh... explosion. So that's a start."

Twirling the stem of her glass as Kyou spoke, Aki found herself smiling. Perhaps it was the drinks, perhaps it was the company...probably a bit of both! Most of all, she was impressed with Melisande. The Raevan had done her best, and the evening had actually been a success!
"A good start!" She'd toast to that! Lifting her glass, Aki clinked it gently against the doctors before taking a final sip. Conversation with Kyou had always been comfortable, and before she knew it, the evening had edged into night.
Melisande was enjoying herself as well, making small talk with Laz and slowly relaxing. It wasn't until Aki and Kyou rose that she realized how late it was, and made a hasty curtsy to Laz. "Thank you...um...for your company. Perhaps we could go grocery shopping together some time!" That was an activity he'd mentioned, wasn't it?
Hurrying into position to open the door for Kyou and Aki, Melisande's smile blossomed back into place. Everyone looked happy! Even if the night hadn't really been romantic, Aki had gotten not one but TWO dates, and the muse considered that a success. After all, two was better than none! Melisande made a silent promise to do something even more grand next year, and smiled sidelong at Laz.
Maybe next time he'd like to plan with her!
