The Missing Puzzle Piece
edit:: You forgot Rem!
How do you think her voice would sound like? She's the confusing one.

It's not that I forgot her, it's that I can't think of any voice actors for her at the moment.

I think a deep female voice... like Ogata Megumi. Perhaps a little harsh sounding, she's good natured enough in personality ^^

The only other deep voiced female seiyuu I can think of is Mitsuki Saiga.
I think she works better for teenaged boy roles though. :/

What kind of music do you think would be good in Death Note? Not just for an opening and ending, but for background and stuff too.

I like the fact that the opening themes are more intense while the closing themes are calmer.
I find that to be especially appropriate for Death Note.

For the opening theme, I'd say Plastic Tree. Something in the vein of "Monophobia" would work really well.
As for the closing theme...maybe The Back Horn. Something like "Yume no Hana" would be very nice.

For background music on the other hand, Yuki Kajiura.
I love her music. Especially for Le Portrait de Petit Cossete.

Well you know instead of picking voice actor lists... why don't we just talk about what kind of voices we think different characters should have? I know it's been discussed a bit here before... and that would be better then having people name voice actors you've never heard of for anime you've never watched.

I will mention voice actors here, However, that is secondary for in all cases I I will explain what their voice is like first. Moreover I have tried only to mention well known voice-actors.

Raito
/ --

I don't think Raito should be dead-pan but not a lot of emotional veriety. This is because he is always very calm but he also seems very alive and with-it (hawk eyed).

I always have the impression that everything Raito says is on purpose. He has thought every friggin word through. This is why, a fairly clear voice. He's strongest emotion = being deep in thought.

The voice actor would have to make a slow train of thought sound wildly exciting.

Misa
/ Aki Maeda

I would hate to see Misa-chan turned into that character people hate very much so I'd prefer none of that squeaky cute (eg. Mariko Kouda/ 'Maki' from 'Marmalade Boy' and 'Nayuki' from 'Kanon').

I would actually like How about traditional Japanese girl. Rather like a girl you'd see on the street. For example, I have 'Aki Maeda' in mind. She played 'Noriko' in 'Battle Royale' and I assume a lot of you have seen that as Kazuo Kiriyama has been mentioned in a thread. Aki Maeda also sang the song for 'Boys Be' called 'Daijobu'... Besides, a sweet everyday girl voice would go better with her being an actress, right?

The file for the song 'Daijobu' can be found here.

L
/ Seki Tomakazu

L is crazy and quirky enough... so what about a voice that can change quickly between serious and light-hearted wackiness. Seki Tomakazu. I think he'd suit the part (roles: 'Van ' in 'Escaflowne', 'Touya' in 'Cardcaptor Sakura').

Tomakazu's hyper roles give the impression he'd not be suitable, but realise he is very capable of serious voice (see: Touya)

Matsuda
/ Tomokazu Sugita

Now I imagine Matsu to be have a normal guy voice that can turn rather spastic. A low kind of voice that is made high often because of his character.

Just imagine that voice I just badly described saying this " ...*quiet low voiced mutter*....! ...EH, KIRA? as in 'killer'?" *his low voice made high and noisy*". I'm not sure if thats explaining what I mean. The seiyuu I can see in this role isn't as well known as the others. Tomokazu Sugita. He played 'Hideki' in 'Chobits' (other roles: 'Kagami Mikage' in 'Ceres; Celestrial Legend').

Sugita-san has a 7 second voice sample on his website which can be located here (easy to navigate)

Sochiro Yagami
A young sounding dad would not fit. More commanding and a often tired sounding. He's the kind of guy to be stressed out by work because he's so involved.

Sayu Yagami
If we have to have some cute voice in here, I think Sayu should be the one to have it. She's widely likable enough to get away with sugar cute ^^

I said before I think Rem should be played by a deep voiced woman. though, not deep enough to sound like a pretty boy. However, It'd be great if it had a gruff edge. She's a Shigigami after all.

Theres a 1:25 sound file of Megaumi Ogata here. (direct link to the file) She's showing her ability to play high and low voices. Listen to the one about 22 seconds in. A little different and...could be rather like Rem.

I'm thinking perhaps Chika Sakamoto for Rem in Japanese... She's known for having a voice that could be either male or female, and since she had to actually tell the characters that she's female, I think her gender shouldn't be obvious.

In English... Hm.... I don't know the name, but the woman who played Soi in Fushigi Yuugi could pull it off. Her voice is kinda deep, and she's played a male character before, in Rurouni Kenshin. (Granted, a cross-dressing male character, but a male character none the less... Can't remember his name, as it's been way too long since I've seen Kenshin.) So her voice, though obviously female, is deep enough that it could almost be androgenous.

I'm still determined that I want ADV to do the English voices. ADV has such great voice actors! heart

And I've finaly decided which character could be voiced by Scott McNeil: Ryuk. I am positive that Scott McNeil could pull Ryuk off flawlessly. Perhaps with his "Dinobot" voice, as I call it. (As in, the same type of voice he used to play Dinobot in Beast Wars. Although less snarlish and 'trying to sound like someone who turns into a Dinosaur' ish.)

EDIT: Actually... Now that I'm thinking of Beast Wars voice actors, wouldn't the VA who played AirRazor in Beast Wars suit Rem really well?
PostPosted: Sat Oct 22, 2005 10:19 pm

AirRazor? Definitely!

Scott's Piccolo or Wolverine voice is probably better for Ryuuk.

What about Cheetor for Matsuda?

I don't know the names of any voice actors I'm afraid... 'cause I just don't care about knowing them, really >.>;;

Now, about Sayu... her with a sugar cute voice would just irk me somewhat.

I agree about Remu having a voice where you can't tell which gender she is. I mean... it would loose the effect of her having to point out she's a girl completely.

I nearly forgot! Raito's voice.

Now Raito... I think he'd be a bit of a challenge. If he doesn't have the right voice actor it would suck. He needs one that will be able to do his transition from a normal really smart teenager to cold blooded killer well.
