Sign language? Ha! She wished! (She wasn't sure how to express how much she wanted to learn. She had tried to express this on numerous occasions, but like she had said earlier (inside her mind), Alexander simply wasn't that responsive to her make-shift charades. (But, to give him credit, the only reason Zack was any better was because he always kept his headphones on and that was kind of like being deaf, so it didn't matter that she couldn't talk.)
Aware that she was only communicating inside her head, Devakanya sighed and shook her head, flashing two before over-exaggerating a sad look. She flashed one and nodded, she could write, but she didn't usually have a pen and paper handy, though now that she thought about it, that wasn't a bad idea. The girl looked around for a stick, but dirt-writing was a lot harder (and took a lot longer) then a pen and paper.

Casia frowned. "Why can't you learn?" she asked. She assumed the sad face had meant that she wanted to, anyway.
As for the second thing, she saw Devakanya looking around for something to write with and fished through her own pockets as well. She had some money in there and a paperclip, but nothing else. Clutching the money, she pulled it out and started to count it. "I have ten dollars," she said finally. "We could walk to a stationery store or something." She didn't really mind spending the money. Jane had given it to her the first time she went out, saying it was for an emergency only and she wasn't supposed to spend it. But helping out someone who couldn't really talk sounded like a pretty hairy situation to her.

Her father was an idiot, that was why.
Devakanya blinked, startled by her own bitter thought. Now that was weird. She hadn't thought anything like that before. She shook her head and looked over at Casia, hesitating before she shook her head. She pointed to the money and pointed to Casia. It was hers, it wouldn't be right to take it. She should spend it on something she wanted for herself. That was a good idea, though. She should try to get Alex to buy her a notebook, though. She really should.
Oh! She had been here a while! The girl jumped up, suddenly looking quite panicked. She had to go, she had to go. Mind racing, Devakanya made aimless motions as she tried to figure out how to tell Casia she had to go home. But she really wanted to see Casia again! What to do!?

Casia felt vaguely relieved. Though she would have been glad to spend it, the fact remained that she wasn't supposed to and she wasn't quite sure how much Jane would let her get away with yet. The new guardian seemed sort of laid back, but then again so did the siren, and she knew what kind of moods she was capable of.
Casia startled as Devakanya jumped, and she blinked uncomprehendingly as the other girl began her panicked signing. "Wait... what?" she asked, getting up quickly too. "Where's the fire? I can't understand!"

Devakanya took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She just needed to calm down, and she would be able to think better. Opening her eyes again, Devakanya met Casia's gaze and tried to think of signs that would make sense. Tapping her wrist, like she was wearing a watch, and pointing off in the direction of the exit, Devakanya sighed and offered a sad smile. It was the best she could do. Time and go. But how to tell Casia to see her again? The unicorn had so little friends as it was, she wanted to stay in touch with anyone who could understand her.
And then an idea struck her. Taki had given her a kiss, and they had met again. She gives Casia a kiss, and she will see Casia again? The thought made perfect sense to the girl, as neither of her fathers had ever explained crushes or kisses or cooties. And, in her silence, it was not something she could ask, either.
Leaning forward, Devakanya placed a gentle kiss on Casia's cheek. She smiled, waved and bounced off in the opposite direction, tail whipping in the wind as she galloped towards home.
