I have a few friends who were really expecting to like Repo, but were severely disappointed, for actually different reasons. For example, one of my friends didn't think it was Opera-y enough and another friend of mine didn't think there was enough development of characters that weren't immediately related to the Wallace-centered main plot. So I guess there is a lot of different reasons for someone to not like it.
I also think another thing that the critics didn't like was that Repo isn't necessarily supposed to be taken seriously - a lot of it is quite zany and over-the-top. For example, Luigi stabbing everyone isn't supposed to be serious business, it's supposed to be laughed at for being ridiculous (or at least that's how it seemed to me).
...I'm guilty of only having read one serious review, though, so I'm not sure how valid my point is here >.>

Those are complaints I've heard too... but I've also heard people say that it was too "opera-y" and that there were too many characters or too much plot. It all boils down to what people were expecting out of it.
Your point is totally valid. smile Thanks for posting it.
As for the reviews, I can understand them critiquing it. To be totally honest, there is a lot wrong with Repo on a technical level... but the fact is that they don't really matter. The story (plot hole ridden though it is) still shines through, the music is awesome (if not for everyone), and the actors did just fine. Repo rocks no matter what they say, and we know it.
