"You think so?" Rocketto responded, raising a paw to his chin and furrowing an eyebrow as if to ponder the thought. "Mmm, you might be vanilla..." He mused, his eyes following Mute step-for-step as he walked alongside him.
"Let's find out!" That being said, the bright male quickly swooped himself down near Mute's cheek and gave him a light, affectionate lick.
"Yep, definitely white chocolate," Rocketto confirmed aloud, almost as if it were matter-of-fact. "With just a hint of vanilla." They had already arrived at the coffee shop by this point, and Rocketto was now waiting for Mute as he leaned on the shop's doorway, his smile ear to ear with satisfaction.

Mute jumped, then laughed, brushing at his cheek. "Sounds like a good flavor for my coffee," he mused, padding into the shop. "Though I'm not so sure about that vanilla thing," he added, grinning.
He stopped about ten feet back from the counter to wait for Rocketto and peruse the dizzying array of options on the menu. "Do they really put pop rocks in coffee?"

Rocketto couldn't help but let a small giggle slip at Mute's reaction, and he then proceeded to follow the white-chocolate Audio to the counter. "Pop rocks? Huh..." He paused for a moment, as if trying to recall. "In coffee, no? But I do think I saw a pop rocks chocolate bar once!"
He grinned at the question, before putting in his order, "I'd like an iced mocha cappuccino, please. Oh! And Don't forget the whipped cream." Rocketto added quickly; he'd always liked the whipped cream. He then gave Mute a nudging glance, waiting for his friend to place an order.

"Think I've seen that, too. Sure is some weird candy around. I suppose I'm a bit of a traditionalist." Mute glanced over the menu and told the barista, "Hammerhead with a shot of white chocolate and one of vanilla." He shot a grin at Rocketto. "A little sweeter than I usually get, but it's always good to try new things."
He glanced curiously around the coffee shop, checking out the decor and clientele. He hadn't seen this particular shop before; it wasn't on his usual way home.

"Mmm, you have good taste," Rocketto smirked, licking his lips for emphasis. And he meant what he said, literally. He then reached into his pocket, withdrawing his leather-sewn wallet and paying the difference.
"Thank you." The male added politely, picking up the coffee for the two of them and handing one to Mute as he searched for a suitable table. Upon finding one he carefully sat down, making sure not to sit upon his own fluffy tail. Rocketto then motioned for the creamy-vanilla Audio to join him, patting the table top in a friendly matter.
"C'mon, we haven't got all day, you know." The male teased, knowing full well he had nothing better to do on a Sunday. Besides, it was his time off, and after meeting Mute he was curious as to where the Audio might live, and how far away it was from his own apartment. "You got a place around here, Mute?"

Mute snorted, amused. He took the coffee with a nod of thanks and took the other chair at the table, arranging his tail carefully. "Don't know why more places can't get open-backed chairs," he complained mildly. "Not like there aren't enough tailed species in this town." Once he'd got his tail arranged to his satisfaction, he tucked one foot up under himself comfortably.
"Maybe you don't," he chuckled. "I'm between commissions at the moment. Cale chased me out of the apartment, said I was driving him nuts sitting around being loudly bored." He tilted an ear at Rocketto. "I think he's just got a date and wants me out of the way, personally. I'm up on Willow Street. Got a loft apartment; I split the rent with a guy I went to school with. How about you?"

"Hehe, you'd think with all the tailed customers coming in they'd have better chairs by now." Rocketto joked, although somewhere deep inside half of him felt a little serious about the issue. His tail twitched at the thought.
"Really? I can't imagine you ever being loud enough to annoy anybody." Rocketto chuckled, sipping his coffee as he listened. In the short while he'd known Mute, the male Audio had been anything -but- loud. Mute seemed kind of quiet actually. "I'm only a few blocks away from here, myself." He said, waving a finger in the direction just across from the shop. "Go up Marble Avenue, take a left and BAM. Apartment complex. I'm on the second story, 305B." He smiled as he licked a bit whipped cream from the straw.
"It's big enough for two, but I'm okay paying it off on my own. For now at least," Rocketto added quietly, his smile almost slipping and ears drooping slightly. He quickly caught himself though, and almost instantly perked up again.
"So, tell me about this 'Cale' person. How'd you end up living with him?"

"One of these days I'll start a petition, or something." Mute chuckled, half-serious. If he thought hard enough about it, he'd get cross, and for now he didn't really care to get himself worked up over politics and social issues. Not on a first - mm, not date; meeting, anyway.
"Why thank you." Mute smiled. "I'm told I was tapping my pencils, actually. I don't know. I wasn't paying attention."
His eyes flicked to the straw briefly, then across the street in the general direction Rocketto had pointed. He missed the quick slip of Rocketto's expression, though he looked back curiously at the tone of the brighter male's voice. He angled one ear; but then Rocketto was asking about Cale. "He's a photographer," Mute explained. "My college roommate for the last two years of school. He's loud, messy, and an idiot, but he's my idiot of a friend, you know? Better than putting up an ad and getting an idiot I didn't know at all." His tone was affectionate; Cale had been a good friend for several years now, in spite of their differences.

"Hehe, I'll look forward to it," Rocketto smiled; and really, if Mute ever did? It would be a glorious day for tailed species everywhere, he thought.
"Pencil tapping, eh? Well aren't you the little rebel." The bright male teased, his tongue sticking out in a playful manner. He listened intently as Mute spoke, genuinely interested in Mute's past experiences.
"I see," Rocketto mused, "That's the best kind of 'idiot' out there, I'd say. You almost make it sound like a good thing." He sighed contently as he finished the last of his coffee, a small purr escaping his lips. "Ah!" Rocketto spoke suddenly, realizing he'd let most of the day go by, "I'd totally forgot, I have a paper due tomorrow, and I haven't finished the darn thing yet."
With that the speckled Audio quickly got up from his seat, half-flustered that something so important had slipped his mind. "Mute, mind if I get your number before I take off here? If you don't mind, that is."

Mute's mouth quirked in a smile. "Rainbow jewelry in school is probably about the extent of my rebellious spirit," he said. "I'm really quite boring, you know."
"Yes. I only mock people I care for." As Rocketto jumped up, he blinked at the younger male; then, hearing the explanation, he nodded in sympathetic understanding. "Go on, get it done," he said. He tore a piece of paper out of the back of his notebook and scribbled his name and number on it. "Don't mind at all." He handed the paper to Rocketto with a warm smile.

"You sure about that? I actually found you pretty amusing, Snow White." Rocketto winked, a smile playing across his face. "Besides, I like rainbow jewelry. Looks great with my fur, y'know." He laughed, his ear twitching slightly.
"I will, thanks." The male nodded graciously as he accepted the note, ripping the bottom half off and jotting down his own information for his friend. "Here's mine," Rocketto added, sticking the small piece of paper to Mute's nose before scurrying to the shop's door. "I'll catch ya later!" The colorful Audio hollered, waving a quick goodbye as he made his leave.

"I imagine it would," Mute said gravely, amused. "Skittles."
He laughed and retrieved the note from his nose, tucking it into his notebook and watching after Rocketto for a few moments. That had been nice. He'd have to call Rocketto, if the other male didn't manage to call first.
