Aquamarine delicately took a bite out of the deer's flank and then nodded to Syoto and Ithnan. "You two should, eat, too," she said shyly, not wanting them to have to wait for her to finish eating. She smiled happily as she chewed. Syoto was so nice...so regal...and so chivalrous...she couldn't see why Khala hadn't liked him, but maybe Syoto wasn't her type. Aquamarine was just as happy in some corner of her heart that Khala didn't like Syoto, but she also felt sad that her adoptive sister didn't like Aquamarine's beloved Syoto. She pushed the sad thoughts away and smiled. Focus on his niceness and his chivalry, she told herself. Worry about family later.

Syoto grinned pleasently and knelt to take a bite of the deer. Deer was probably one of his favorite kinds of meat; they truly were meals fit for a king.
"So, my dear," Syoto swallowed politely before speaking to Aquamarine, "do you have family around here?" Just then, he froze his eyes widened. "Um, did you mention... Old Silverback, earlier?" He asked, resisting his sudden impulse to tense up.

Ithnan nodded easily to the request of his king not to eat, simply settling down beside the deer and watching the others eat to their heart's content. He laughed softly at the female's request, and shook his head a bit. "Surely m-m-milady, ther-there's not eno-enough f-f-for th-three. I've e-e-eaten my f-f-fill alre-alread-dy."

Relieved that Ithnan would not go hungry, Aquamarine smiled and went back to eating, pausing after a moment to answer Syoto's question. "I've got an adopted family, just my sister Khala and Old Silverback." She was baffled by his question and the tenseness that seemed to underlay his words. "He was like a grandfather to us, Khala and me, that is. Why?"

Syoto sighed slightly in relief. So they weren't related by blood. No doubt Old Silverback had kidnapped her from her family when the lovely female was still just an egg. Syoto blinked. He thought she was lovely? No! He thought her SINGING was lovely. Yes, she'd make a FINE minstress.
"Oh, no reason, m'lady," Syoto answered her after a moment. No need to bother her with Old Silverback's true nature right away... Especially if Old Silverback had brain-washed her into thinking that the old geizer was family to her...
"Ithnan," Syoto said abruptly, "I'm thinking of bringing the lovely Aquamarine into the royal servant... hood... court... society... thing." He paused, blinked, then continued. "You should've heard her singing a moment ago, it was lovely... What are your thoughts on the matter?"
Not that Ithnan's opinions mattered. After all, he was just a servant... But he had been with Syoto since hatching... So, perhaps the dellusional 'royal' male was feeling the need to get his 'friend's' approval?

Ithnan blinked a few times, before glancing up at his king curiously, then looking over toward the female with slight interest. "Th-th-th-thoughts, my l-l-l-liege?" he said quietly, not really understanding; why was Syoto asking his approval of something that clearly wasn't his area to be speaking? He gave a soft smile toward the female, keeping his eyes on her for the moment. "P-p-perhaps I-I would be-be m-m-more fit to gi-gi-give my opi-opinion on th-the mat-matter if I w-were to h-h-hear you s-s-sing, m'l-lady...?"

Aquamarine was a little confused. Why did Syoto say such pretty things to her and about her if he didn't love her? Shaking her head, she said quietly, "Of course." She chose a sad, sweet song about a girl who loved a boy who didn't love her back in her high, sweet voice. It was the sort of song that always brought tears to her eyes, and as she cried, she put the full force of her own sadness and confusion and happiness into the words and her voice. The glade was still when she finished singing.

Syoto remained silent when the serenade was complete, feeling as if he was in a daze. He had laid down at some point during the song, but he didn't remember doing it. He had only one thought in his brain. Which was nothing new. But usually that thought was 'kingofdragonskingofdragonskingofdragons'. This time, the thought was simply...
"Wow." He murmured. That was... amazing... She should definitely be a part of my court.

Ithnan, as well, was completely at a loss for words when the female finished her somber melody, not even the tip of his tail wagging as it normally did in the strange silence that followed the song. "Ama-amazing..." he murmured softly after the King's appreciative comment, only then realizing that he'd straightened himself out somewhere in the melody, allowed himself to raise his head above the King's, if only for a moment. He noticed his error immediately and dipped back down, shuddering softly. He could only hope that Syoto had been too distracted by the female's voice to notice his slight mistake...

Aquamarine opened her eyes, which she always closed while singing, smiling sadly, tears sliding down her blue-green cheeks. They liked the song, but...she still wondered about Syoto. She couldn't meet his indigo eyes and instead tried to look at Ithnan, who clearly loved her singing, and ended up looking at the ground, unsure of what to say, aside from, "R-really?"

"Really!" Syoto assured her, ears pricking up excitedly, "Ithnan. I'm sorry, but I really don't care about your opinion any longer. Lady Aquamarine shall be a part of my court. All visitors to the royal palace shall be left awestruck as she serenades them!" He envisioned the thought grandly, strutting around royally just for the sake of strutting around royally. As he passed the young lady dragon, his tail brushed hers. Syoto felt a shock that was almost electric run through him.
"Oh," he felt heat rush to his face as he glanced at their tails, "oh. Beg pardon, good lady."

Ithnan opened his mouth to respond to the lady's comment when his Lord's voice trampled over it, making him snap his mouth shut immediately. At the following comment, however, he felt his ears slowly turn back, blinking a few times as he watch Syoto, almost in awe. Had... had his King honestly said that he didn't value his most loyal subject's opinion on this matter? He'd never done anything like that... but it was just as well. He was the king, he could treat his subjects as he saw fit.
However, watching the colour rise on Syoto's face brought about feelings that he'd never in memory experienced. Feelings that he honestly did not welcome in the least. His gaze sharpened slightly, the tip of his tail twitching softly, ears pressing back against his head. His King was nervous, or at the least embarrassed. He'd never seen anyone do that to Syoto.
...he didn't like that...
...he didn't like her.

Aquamarine looked away, uncertain, blushing. She had also felt the electric thrill from touching tails, but...if they'd both felt that thrill...why was she so low in his eyes? Maybe she could ask Ith...nan.... She saw the subtle expression on his face and almost flinched back. Syoto had been insulting to Ithnan, but Ithnan was mad at her. Maybe not a good idea to talk to Ithnan about this problem, so she just settled for looking miserably at the ground, awkward.

Syoto, oblivious to the fact that he'd offended Ithnan, looked between his two subjects, both of whom had fallen silent suddenly... Lady Aquamarine was looking at Ith. Why did that make Syoto feel... What? Jealous? Syoto had never had cause to be jealous before, although he'd occasionally pretended to be so, so that his subjects wouldn't feel jealous of his contentedness....
But why would Syoto feel jealous now, just because his new minstrel/minstress had looked at his chief servant?
Odd... Very odd...
And now she was looking down at the ground, seeming miserable... Syoto had the urge to cheer her up somehow... but how did one go about doing that? .... Ah! Syoto knew what to do!
"Lady Aquamarine, please kneel," he told her gently, then, to Ithnan, "Go find me a big stick. We need to induct her into the monarchy!"

Ithnan shrugged his shoulders, trying to rid them of the tension that seemed to linger there, and he kept himself as calm as he could, bright blue eyes looking toward Syoto with a look that meshed remorse, hidden pain, and a desperation to be wanted as much as this stupid female was. But he shook his mane, quelling his thoughts, and then bowed to his king.
"Ye-ye-yes, m-my liege. A-a-as you w- as you w-wish..." he murmured, backing up until he was a good ten feet away before he turned around. Of course, that was a tradition made for queens, but he could care less. Royalty was royalty, no more and no less. He shook his mane and heaved a heavy sigh. He was worried about all of this. Mainly the way that his king looked at this female... and the way he was sure to respond once she was made his queen.
