"We collect any sort of story that you might be willing to tell." He nodded, his usual grin softening into a smile. "Sometimes the stories are true, like the tales of someone's great adventures through life, other times they're what some people would like to call 'tall tales'. Those ones often involve stories of the gods or the great spirits, whichever of the two you might find yourself believing in... We believe that everyone and everything has a story to be told."

Kenna laughed, which sounded more like a chirping noise than anything. "Well, we don't have anything in that line of stories to offer."

Halili was still mildly confused, but she let her shoulders shrug. Kenna knew what she was doing, and she would just have to put a little faith into her feathered friend.

"The only story I can offer is one between Halili and her beloved so pure that it couldn't last."

Halili's ears flattened against her skull. She didn't want to think about that. Not at all.

Kenna noticed the difference in body language from Halili. Good. The girl needed one final kick to get her out of here and on with her life. This might just do it. "Or a silly story of a parrot raising a naive girl from cubhood."

"I would be more than happy to hear either, my feathered friend." He smiled, tail ticking for a moment as he sat back. "Every story is worth telling, after all... The one about a parrot raising the girl does sound interesting though." He nodded, smiling.

Kenna nodded her head since she couldn't quite smile. Silly beak. She fluffed her wings up, settling in to tell a short tale.

"The pitiful little girl was just a cub, all alone. I discovered her near a watering hole, the child having enough sense to stick close to water. Sadly, she was a little too close, and a crocodile viewed her as a tasty treat. I was there to warn her, though not before the girl was so terrified it hindered her mind for a while."

Halili nodded meekly. It was probably why she sounded so...stupid? Perhaps. Or just childish. She couldn't help it, and though she tried, she probably would never be able to completely break it.

"After that, I couldn't leave her alone. I'll be honest, with my small size, it ain't easy raising a lion that could easily munch on you if she so wanted to."

Halili sighed for a moment, used to hearing that but never having the thought cross her mind. While she had never considered Kenna her mother, she was the best thing Halili had as a mother figure. She had always been there, and she always would be.

"I guess you could compare it to those stories of how lions would raise their prey's offspring, just reversed. It was vastly difficult, especially through the times when Halili was with---" Kenna cut her sentence off, deciding that it would be best to not mention Halili's first love, and potential mate. Nothing had happened, but as far as the two of them guessed he had vanished. Fearing the worst, death, Halili waited until she couldnt take the heartbreak anymore.

"Well, after a time of growing up in the limiting jungle, she let me convince her to start fresh somewhere new."

"Halili does not do well in new," the lioness sniffed, making her own comment on herself. She was doing a huge sacrifice to Kenna, and wanted the bird to know it. It was probably damaging to herself to stay in the jungle, but still, it was always Kenna's idea to leave.

Kenna nodded. "Though there were many times I had to peck at her ears for discipline, it turned out quite all right." Even if she had an odd affinity for leopards, always feeling so relaxed with them.

"That was a wonderful story, my dear bird." He smiled brightly, bowing his head to acknowledge the fine tale she'd just told. It was one that he would do well to commit to memory so that he could tell it to Usiku who he found him again... And together, perhaps, they could tell it to their pride.

"And if I might say something to the lovely lady lion..." He glanced over to Halili. "New things truly aren't that bad when you can experience them with friends. My friend and I experience new things every day. We travel everywhere our paws can take us... But there's always one place that we call home together. Perhaps in finding your 'new' you'll find your own home?"

Halili nodded quietly, pondering on his advice. Her only friend would be Kenna...but even attaching the word friend seemed inappropriate. It seemed to be on a deeper level, but she had no word for it. Mother wasn't right but.... she glanced over at the petite grey parrot, really wondering.

Well, even if she didn't know exactly what to call her still, Halili knew that the parrot would always be there for her.

Kenna was quite proud of herself, always loving a little fluff of the feathers. She preened a few of those feathers for just a moment, displaying her pleasure. "Thank you," she chirped.

Halili shook her head, but smiled. "Halili understands what you say," she said quietly. "Friends will come with new home. With Kenna always by Halili's side, new home will be found...soon." It felt good to say that.

"Now that's the spirit." He grinned, nodding in agreement with Halili's words. Realizations were always wonderful things to come by as far as he was concerned... Especially when he was in the mood for them. "So why don't we find our way out of this jungle together... And then we'll part so that you can begin your new story. Usiku's probably getting impatient with me anyways."

Halili perked up, looking pleased. It would be much fun wandering around with someone else for a change! "Halili would love that!" she exclaimed, even if the jungle felt a little like home, it wouldn't be quite as scary to pick her way through it since she wasn't alone. "Thank you."

Kenna watched her carefully, always taking note on how...easy she rested when she was with leopards. Interesting, really, since she had never known them until she was an adolescent. Old enough that she probably shouldn't have been as relaxed with them as, say, if she had been around them as a cub. The parrot ruffled her feathers, discarding her thoughts. No matter. She would pick her own life, and the ever faithful 'mama' Kenna would follow.
