Panicfur jumped at the sound of Tornadotail's voice. Her head swooped in his direction, ears flicked back as she let out a growl. "Riverclan might be starving, like many of us." She muttered under her breath, head falling as she stared at the ground. The truth was, she really didn't have to complain about starving. Windclan did have, in many ways, enough prey to last them the leafbare. From what she saw, and heard from the other clans, Windclan looked like the only clan with enough food for every cat in the clan, even if their bellies could still be gurgling afterward.

But she still starved. The proof showed on her pelt, as her ribs clung to her pelt. She wanted the clan to be fed, the kits- everyone. Right now, she came last. But, if Riverclan was that desperate, than everyone in their clan must be going hungry. That wasn't good for the kits, or the elders, anyone, from what she thought.

Riverclan had to have their reasons for trespassing on Windclan, but, the punishment to be faced. She wasn't willing herself to see it, but as deputy, she had too. For the clan.

Bramblestone jumped, startled, at Tornadotail's rumble. She turned and grinned enthusiastically at the big warrior. With Tornadotail on the patrol, what was the worst that could happen?

A big battle, some irritating and wise part of her brain replied. She shoved that half away. She was a warrior now, had learned everything about the code and fighting that her mentor had known. She clawed at the ground, her tail lashing back and forth. Six cats, the shrewd part hissed. Is that enough?

Rollinggust looked over at Bramblestone, taking a guess at what she was thinking. "I w-wouldn't worry, they're on our turf. If trouble b-brews, then we'll be the f-faster ones to jump," her voice was just barely audible, but she did her best not to twitch as she spoke. Closing her eyes for a moment she tried to hide her relief that Tornadotail was coming, they would need a big warrior if they're gonna show Riverclan that they were being serious.

Rollinggust, Moonshadow, Bramblestone, Tornadotail, Hawkwing, and Panicfur. Plus himself. That should be a large enough patrol, seeing as they were all experienced fighters. And who knows? The Riverclan cats that they'll meet today may be just apprentices. This battle belonged to them.

"Thank you everyone! Let's move out!" He shouted to all the volunteers. Jumping down from his perch, he almost sprinted out of the camp, holding his head up and his tail high. They'll teach these hooligans not to mess with Windclan for the last time!

Halcyontail had found a rabbit of her own, and though she almost lost it, eventually pounced and bit down hard on its spine. She could get used to this, but she shouldn't. This was still stealing, and they were really only doing so because they had to.

Dragging the corpse back to where the other cats where, she took a moment to catch her breath. She still prefered fish, since they weren't as heavy as these things.

There was that feeling again. Like something bad was going to happen. She turned to face the light wind and the blood in her veins froze over.

"Windclan incoming! Lots of them!" She hissed loudly. Should they run or fight? They might outnumber them after all...

Moonshadow glared at the cats among the crowd and sneered scornfully. Of course, Duskpool was going to sit this one outt. She spat.
"What? Are you all too coawardly to show Riverclan that they cant take out prey? You'd rather let them continue hunting on our moorland? Let them take all our prey and leave us to starve? what are you? Mice?"

She couldnt care less if she was rebuked for this comment. She felt a bloodlust rushing through her, causing her to b even more anxious and began shifting impatiently.

when the order to move out was given, she could have jumped for joy and followed her leader, still clawing up earth hungrilly.

Shellpath was gettinga little frustrated no cat was going after the rabbit yet. At least some cats doing something! She listened as Passioncharm cautiouslt circled to the other side of the rabbit. Shellpath crept forward slowly, hoping that the rabbit would scurry into her paws. Suddently, the rabbit darted away in panic. She hissed angilly, but her ears perked when the sound of fast pawsteps reached her.

He head whipped around. She could hear angry meows and scented fresh WindClan. She let out an alarm hiss/
"The scent is strong...how many?"

Rollinggust followed Fleetingstar with a surge of exhilaration, tonight they'd show who's who! Looking over to Moonshadow she shrugged, "we'll need some warriors h-here anyways. If Riverclan is trying to draw us out by s-stealing prey they could be planning a s-sneak attack on our camp." Leaf-bare made crazy cats do crazy things, but hopefully this was not the case, being prepared though was just always the best option.

Not far away she could see the thieves. What would they choose? Bloodshed, negotiation, or fleeing? Her fur prickled and she hissed under her breath.

Despite being chosen to go on the patrol, her head hung low. Panicfur didn't know if she wanted to fight. Nor unsure, or sure, she was just stuck in the middle between her unsure side and loyal side. Looking at the other cats she grimaced. If she didn't act hostile then they might suspect something. The last thing she wanted was for them to suspect her of 'treachery' or 'disloyalty'. She flicked her tail and her head rose, ears flicked upward as she opened her mouth to get a better scent of things.

Yes. Riverclan. The scent was there, strongly floating near, and getting closer. Her stomach twisted into tiny knots. Not good. She thought, frowning as her speed picked up suddenly.

The scent of blood was there, too. A type of dread begun to fill her. They already caught prey, and it was Windclan's prey.

Somehow, she wondered if this was going to end well.

Elderberry leapt after Fleetingstar, tail held high and proud. She had remained silent as the other spoke up in support, noting their faces and words and thinking of the confrontation ahead, but it was clear from her bearing - and to anyone who knew Elderberry well - that the gray warrior would not hesitate to join this patrol.

Leaf-bare was always a time of struggle in more ways than one: it was all the harder to uphold the warrior code when it meant leaving another clan to struggle through the cold alone. Still, she owed it to her own Clan to support and protect them first. If they continued to allow RiverClan to bleed away needed prey, then WindClan would be the ones to starve - not to mention the other clans would rightly perceive them as weak, and might even join in.

She was running beside Panicfur now, and cast a searching glance at the black and white deputy. Peace was always preferable to war, and yet it was impossible to fully trust the other she-cat when times of conflict came. For a cat with such stark contrasts in her coat, Panicfur tended to blend the world into worrying shades of gray, paralyzing herself into inaction.

But Elderberry kept such doubts to herself, as she always did. "Doing what is right is not always what is fair," she murmured to the deputy, her tone warm and sympathetic.

She could see the rabbit's whiskers twitching from her vantage point behind a tuft of scraggly bushes. Whitewater hunted WindClan's prey without guilt - she had gone many long seasons with her brothers and sisters without obeying the warrior code, and was loathe to return to their binding rules. Prey was for whoever could catch it first.

Pawsteps over the moors. Starting, the rabbit stared wildly off in another direction and darted off just as Whitewater fell upon it. Her paws hit its flank, drawing blood but sending her tumbling to the ground; the impact rocked her starved body, sending spots in front of her eyes for a moment. "Foxdirt." she swore angrily, swaying in place.

Far off, Shellpath's alarm hiss reached her ears. She cast the fleeing rabbit one more reglectful glance before padding off in the direction of the group. What a ragged picture they made. WindClan would tear them apart.

Whitewater flicked her claws out, taking her place in the group.

Hawkwing took his place near the back of the group, not feeling comfortable in the front lines. He prefered to stay in the back and offer support to whoever needed it.
He flexed his muscles, preparing for the upcoming fight.
"The warrior code must be upheld," he said to no one in particular.

Rainsong shrunk back at the mention of WindClan warriors.
"Really...? How many?"
If she was nervous before, she felt ten times worse now. She didn't want to fight and shed blood, but she also didn't want her clan to starve. And she didn't want to look like a coward, so she stood her ground, ears pricked and eyes gazing around for any sign of WindClan cats.

This is what we deserve, the voice taunted him. We broke the code, we should pay.

The cat shook his head, driving the thoughts away. What was going to happen would happen, it didn't matter whether it was right or wrong. Everything would work out, even if it wasn't how they might like it too.

"Do we run, or do we fight? Icefang asked, his voice low. "I doubt they're going to be willing to listen to us now."

Tornadotail basically ignored Panicfur's statement giving only an unamused frown. He knew what he said was not without warrent straving cats or not. There was a chance that something could happen, leaf bare wasn't over yet and to let stealing continue made them look weak. Tornado let out a murp a sort of war cry as he ran after Fleetingstar his tail whipping with his excitement while displaying his name sake.

"I can smell their fish breath already!" Tornadotail growled trying to hold himself behind Fleetingstar. Even though everything in him said to dive strait into the mess with teeth and claw, Fleetingstar might want to talk first.

Passioncharm had never faced anything like this before. The wind was blowing in the wrong direction for him to pick up the fresh scent of Windclan. He only lifted his head when the rabbit fled. He noticed that the Riverclan group had gathered in a defensive stance. Turning he realized Windclan was on them! Passioncharm jumped with a puffed tail and started running towards the other Riverclan cats. Hopefully he could make it to them without a Windclanner on his back.

Bramblestone nodded at Rollinggust's words and leaped after her leader, keeping pace with the banded warrior. "I agree," she meowed. "If RiverClan attacks, our biggest concern will be to take care of the kits and elders." Her paws pounded the earth and her young heart called out for vengeance. This might be a tale to tell kits when she was an elder...a fearsome battle with RiverClan invaders, the air thick with yowls--!!

If I live that long... The grim specter of death. Would she never be rid of it?! Apparently not. The stench of RiverClan was thick on this spot on the moors. She hissed and slunk forward.

Moonshadow showed no sigh other than flicking her ears that she had heard Rollinggust. She wa sintent on her prey, the Riverclan theives. It was obvious from her toothy grin and a wicked light in her demented eyes that she couldnt wait for a battle and bloodshed.

Moonshadow bounded after her leader, almost even with him, barely able to prevent herself from flying forward and biting into a RiveClan cat like a piece of freshkill.

Shellpath, crouched, her hackles raised in fury. They'd been caught! She was not afraid of these flea bitten windbags, but was furious that they had been caught by them. She could care less that they were in no shape to battle these warriors.
"We looke like skeletons with fur. If we run, they'll be sure we're starvinga dn may raid our territory! Even if it is leafbare, and even if we are stealing, we cant afford to look weak. But if they charge us, I think we should get out of here. We cant afford injury right now!"

Bramblestone crept up beside Moonshadow. She might not share the she-cat's lust for blood and combat, but she could feel her muscles taut, ready to give the enemy what for. They could not spare any prey during this time of the year--and if RiverClan wanted prey from their territory, the least they could do was ask and get the official refusal. She laid her tail on Moonshadow's side. "Wait for Fleetingstar!" she hissed softly.
