I found this a while back when I was doing my first research into Wicca (We'll not say how long ago that was...) and I thought I'd share it. I personally love old languages and proverbs and... (nerdiness aside)

Thig an nathair as an toll
La donn Bride,
Ged robh tri traighean dh’ an t-sneachd
Air leachd an lair.
"The serpent will come from the hole
On the brown Day of Bride,
Though there should be three feet of snow
On the flat surface of the ground."

Blessed Imbolc to All.

Sorry for not posting sooner!

Soraya
Imbolc is a celebration of the first day of spring and the days finally becoming longer again. It is a time for turning the soil and preparing for new crops and it is a time for getting rid of the old and welcoming in the new, so spring cleaning is in order and so is a clear out of the larder in preparation for new produce. Seeds for planting would be blessed at this festival. Cooking ingredients should reflect foodstuffs that would have had to last the winter. Seeds, nuts, grains, dried fruit and flour would have survived. Seeded herb breads could be baked to celebrate the hope of the coming spring and the planting of new crops.

Significance: First day of spring, winter being swept away and hope for renewal.
Herbs: Angelica, basil, cinnamon and bay leaves.
Foods: Seeds, nuts, bread, onions, garlic, cheese.

Happy Imbolc everyone! Here's hoping the Queen of Winter is sleeping, but it's really sunny over here, so I worry that she's out gathering wood.. *sadface*

Happy Imbolc everyone!

It is traditional on Imbolc, at sunset or after a ritual to light every lamp in the house-if only for a few moments. Or, light candles in each room in honor of the Sun's rebirth.

Food appropriate to eat on this day include those from the dairy, since Imbolc marks the festival of calving. Spiced wines and dishes containing raisins-that are symbolic of the Sun-are also traditional.

*I found these tid-bits in the book Wicca; a guide for the solitary practitioner by Scott Cunningham.

Happy Imbolc!

Curry powder - 1 1/2 Tablespoons
All-purpose flour - 2 Tablespoons
Long grain white rice - 2 Tablespoons
5 cups Chicken stock

2 Stalks celery, slice thinly
3 diced Carrots
2 Tomatoes, peeled & chopped
8 ounces Chicken, cooked & diced
1 small Apple (peel, core, slice, and cook before adding)
Salt to taste
Fresh celery leaves

1) Heat butter and oil in a saucepan. Add onion, celery and carrots; cook gently 5 minutes. Stir in Curry Powder and flour and cook 1 minute.

2) Stir in stock and bring to a boil; add rice and stir well. Cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
