This was getting nowhere; Dwenna was going to have to wring her brain out for some swift answers. Her instinct cried one thing, but logic dictated another. Naturally. Because nothing could ever go simply in a situation like this.

"Ariana," she repeated, offering a smile to the girl. "That's a very pretty name." Bolstering the child for a moment borrowed time for her mind to plot, and hopefully would help soothe her. But time was against her in that: Dwenna could swear the ruckus was getting louder. Whoever was chasing this girl had not given up and was getting close. Well, what a surprise, she decided, would be in store for them?

"Hush," she soothed. "You've done well to come this far, Ariana, but I need you to dry your eyes now and listen. I may have to...take care...of the ones who are chasing you before we leave. You may have to hide again until it is safe for you to be out, and you will have to be quiet, so they do not listen and find you. I won't let you go far, but I don't' want to risk you getting hurt. Do you understand?"

Ariana nodded her head quickly, rubbing her eyes with a corner of her traveler's cloak. "Where do you want me to-" She jerked her head suddenly looking back toward the sound of men shouting and she could see the faint glow of torches in the distance. But doing as she was told she didn't yelp or scream but snuggled close to the Gargoyle, half hiding behind her.

Dwenna didn't want Ariana getting nervous, and at the same time, she wondered if she was getting in over her head a bit here. How many humans could she go alone? Plenty, certainly, but if the group got too large, things could get out of hand. Normally taking flight to the skies was a last choice, but now it seemed impossible: she had to protect the girl.

"Well..." her eyes skimmed along the trees. "Where were you before?"

Unbeknowst to the human or the other Gargyole, they were being watched from overhead, in the many old trees of the dark forest. A perched shadow was on the upmost branch of a tree overlooking them. The shadowy form had a large staff grasped in its claw, and some form of furred shawl around its shoulders. A long tail extended downwards to wrap around the thin tree, to hold its body close-indicating a non-human.

The dim moonlight cast a soft glow on the figure as it moved forward on the thick branch, to get a closer look at the drama below. The light illuminated the shadowed creature, giving it a female form.

She watched in great interest in the interaction between the other gargoyle and human, but her sharp ears perked at the sound of human shouting. The green gargoyle let off a growl, her eyes burning red.

Humans...

Ariana looked around, now it was completely dark except for the moon and the nearing glow of the torches. She was even more lost than before... "I...I don't know, I was hiding in a hole in a tree, but I can't tell which one." the little child said shakily not because of fear, she felt safer with the Gargoyle, but it was also a chilly night as well. "I don't think I can find it again, even if I went back the way I came..." She shuddered again the moon catching the light of her drying tears.

A slight growl of irritation rasped in the back of Dwenna's throat as the child admitted to being lost. This would not go simply, no matter what she desired. Still, frightened as she was, Ariana had done remarkably well for a young human. The dove gray gargoyle's gaze went to the treetops, skimming them in a swift examination, her eyes taking on a rather blank look as a different shudder rippled down her back. Others were coming, other humans, and she had to find a way for justice without getting herself in major trouble. Then again, some things, she decided, just couldn't be helped. She thought she saw a branch move, but dismissed it, thinking it simply to be a nocturnal forest creature.

"Take to the treetops, then," she told the girl, nodding towards one of them. "Climb as high as you can, and stay still. You don't want to fall." She turned her head towards the commotion, eyes glowing red. "This will not take long."

Morrigan had two options. She could sit here and continue to watch this strange spectacle, or she could do something. It appeared as if the other gargoyle was trying to encourage the human to climb to safety.

A Gargoyle helping a human?
She thought, her fangs biting her lip. This puzzled her immensely. Humans hate our kind. This makes no sense. There must be some kind of explanation Perhaps... this girl is not human at all... perhaps she is of the Third Race..?

That thought put Morrigan in a foul mood, and she growled low in her throat, eyes glowing red.

The only way I'm going to find out is by interacting them... and chasing those other humans off.

Morrigan had always been quick-decisioned and deliberate, so with a suddenly leap, she fell landed front of the two, her wings spreading to slow her fall. She growled at them, unable to speak their langauge. She opted with furious gestures instead, pointing with her animal-skulled staff behind them.

Take the hint! Run!

She hoped they understood, and she turned her head, seeing the tell-tale signs of winking torches, and the smell of the men. It had been a while since she had fought humans.

But it was something she had much experience in.

Bryant was making his way home that night, after having roamed through the woods for some time. Seeing how late it was, his falcon companion was not with him. If anything Kera was probably fast asleep in her perch right now.

Though, on the way, a few sights and sounds caught his attention from somewhere not far from his place. He quickly directed his eyes and ears towards the source, picking up on the voices of men, as well as what seemed to be the glow from torches. He couldn't tell what they were up to, but it couldn't have been good.

Narrowing his eyes some, he made his way towards them, being sure to stay quiet. And once he was closer, he noticed a few others within the area. It seemed to be two gargoyles and a human child. Now there were several possibilities to what was going on, but he was now fairly certain the ones with the torches were after this particular group. And knowing how his own kind was, as well as somewhat of the nature of gargoyles, he could guess that the two were not attempting to harm or kidnap the child.

As much tension as there was between the two races, he had doubts that would lead to violence against a child on a whim. So something else had to have been going on here.

In any case, he would remain where he stood, waiting to see what would happen next. If things seem as if they would turn more towards violence, he would intervene. But for now, he just pulled down his bow and waited.

"I can't climb...I'm not big enough..." Ariana said looking at her 'guardian angel' sadly. She then squeaked when a second appeared, from the trees. This one was wearing animal furs, like her uncle, except she was point with her animal skull staff behind them, as if telling her to run. Even though she was a child, she wasn't stupid.

"Were can we run to?" The small child asked both her 'guardian angel' and the new 'angel' that appeared. She then turned toward the ever closing group, they were close enough now to where she could hear at least six or seven distinct voices, there could be more, but she wasn't sure, for all they knew others were probably sneaking up from behind them. She buried her face back into her 'guardian angel' side, she was helpless, she didn't know what to do...

Time was not on their side, it seemed, but before Dwenna could decide further, a commotion from above signaled company, which turned out to be a striking green female clad in furs. She didn't know all of her clanmates, but Dwenna was positive she'd never seen this one before, and would certainly remember one who opted to growl instead of speaking the common tongue. She seemed good enough at body language, though. For a moment, there was nothing but silence as they stared, both red eyed and wanting to end this disaster, though perhaps in different ways.

Still, there was Ariana to think of, and the way she clutched at Dwenna would've surely broken a human's bones, her bond was so tight. Her dusky wings spread slightly,, an arm around the child. If this strange gargoyle would not speak normally, would she at least be able to understand it? Dwenna could only try and see. She nodded in both greeting and in understanding that they would run...for now.

"I will be back," she said slowly, clearly. She had to be sure she was understood. She would not leave another to fight off the group. Besides, where was the glory for her in running away like a frightened child....oh. Right. She had one of those, now.

"It doesn't matter," she soothed. "I know a place not far from here where you'll be safe. You don't have to worry about being alone."

Morrigan watched the interaction between the other gargyole and human, and was becoming more puzzled. It almost seemed as if the child was being protected by said female.

She broke out of her thoughts as the gargoyle began speaking to her. As it had been for several months, since her 'gift' had been bestowed on her, she couldn't understand a word the other was saying.

But Morrigan had become very skilled at reading facial and body language. The other gargoyle was trying to communicate agreement, and her expression showed worry for herself. Morrigan cracked a small smile at the other, it an unfamiliar expression on her face. It had been too long that she had last seen her kind.

Morrigan watched as the gargoyle spoke once again to the child, and hoped they were to flee. She would give them ample time to do so. Perhaps this gargoyle had seen her brothers, or knew of the Clan she had been searching for. They had to be protected for that reason. It could very well be the key to finding Daichdah clan.

The green gargoyle then let out another roar as she turned away from them, and dropped to all fours. She could see the humans now, they were so close. With a strong heave of her arms, her staff clutched in her right fist, Morrigan dashed forward. She could see the leader of the mob, his expression surprised by her bold move.

These fools would fall. She would not see another one of her species slain by humans.

Slowly, Bryant inched closer so that he might be able to listen on what the gargoyles and child were saying a little more clearly. Indeed, it seemed that the two were attempting to help the human child, which led to the question as why the girl needed help in the first place. That was something to figure out later.

Peering further ahead, he noted the two gargoyles were probably outnumbered. While the gargoyles possessed greater strength than humans, they were by no means invulnerable still.

As one of the gargoyles let out a roar, his attention shifted to her. The way she charged at the mob seemed rather... beast like even for a gargoyle. How odd. In any case, it was obvious that this wasn't going to be ending peacefully. And he wasn't going to let the hatred of his own kind get the better of this situation.

With a sigh, Bryant stepped closer to where the child was standing and notched an arrow to his bow. It was dark, but it was easy enough to distinguish gargoyle from man. Still, he carefully aimed towards one of the ones without torches. It wouldn't do to have them drop the torches and set the woods on fire after all.

And the moment he had locked onto his target, he let the arrow fly.

"NO, GREEN GUARDIAN ANGEL!! YOU"LL GET HURT!!" Ariana cried trying to go after the green Gargoyle, but then she heard the whistling of an arrow passing her head, she turned and saw a man with a bow and arrow firing, at whom she thought, her green guardian angel, but she then heard one of the men that was almost upon them let out the familiar cry of death and she screamed and ran into the bushes near her dove colored guardian angel, she clutched her grandmother's cross praying that her guardian angels would be safe and she also hoped that the man with the bow and arrow didn't see her or find her. She whimpered and silently cried as she heard her supposed green angel attack some of the men, and possibly her dove guardian angel was fighting as well.

"THERE YOU ARE!!" Came the savage baritone of one of the men. Ariana screamed as he grabbed hold of her "I FOUND HER!! OVER HERE!!" he hollored to the others.
