He simply sat there for a while, thinking over Grinch's words in his mind. He had grown listening to the big lion's typical rhymes, but this seemed deeper. The question he was asked deserved an answer, and he was sure he was expected to give one.
"Well, all noise has a reason to be there. Without a voice families could not find each other. Without a trickle, one could not enjoy the soothing sounds of running water. Noise is vital and is here for us all. To help and give us joy. To help guide us through our lives in these huge lands."
Aidan had tapped into a part of him he never knew he had. He felt sort of poetic. Perhaps it was a gift Grinch had given him. He was sure of it. He smiled up at the big green lion up in the tree, wondering if he'd given the answer he'd wanted.

Grinch let out a puff of air, though it was no anywhere near his usual sort of huff. "You are very wise. Noise is a way for us to communicate. The best of us use it to share the best in us." Grinch paused, paw moving up and down on a tiwg of a branch in front of him, "I'm afraid that I am the worst possible example of such a thinkg. Illori is a kinder and better individual than I am, and probably the best you've known."
Grinch closed his eyes, remembering. "Aidan."
He pasued a good while before continuing. "I've taught you criticism and suspicion. To live, you must have a good amount of both, but the best individuals I've known also find joy and search for the good in others and everything. They are not foolish, they use sound judgment, but they look for the good. That makes all the difference."
Grinch looked down at the teenager, then jumped from the branches, draping an arm across his shoulder, "I am your papa, and I will do better to show you the good."
Though it was a serious promise, Grinch now nipped t Aidan's ears and swatted a paw through his growing mane. Survival, words of criticism, and rough play, after all, was Grinch's love language.

Aidan watched Grinch as he spoke. He was unable to think of anything to say, and was greatful that the bigger lion kept talking. The way he spoke...he truly sounded like a loving father. Something that made his chest fill with warmth and pride. His eyes brightened when Grinch jumped down and draped a paw over his shoulders.
His head lowered for a moment as moisture wet his eyes. He stayed like that for a moment, then wiped his eyes with his paw and looked at the lion next to him. "I could not have asked for a better Papa then you. You've taught me so much..."
He pawed at his papa's tail, then looked him in the eyes. "I can honestly say that I am proud." Aidan stopped for a moment, trying to word this right. He knew he may never hear Grinch call him his son, but still..."I'm proud to be your son. Adopted or not."

"I'm glad you chose me as your dad." Grinch answered back, "Even if you are chore," He whacked Aidan playfully on the head, "Now you're grown I must teach you more!"
"More places to go, more things to know. Much more to do, how am I ever going to show you? I can't even show you the Whos. I'd forgotten, but they've moved on."
He tapped his long, furry feather-toes on the ground, then shrugged and climbed back into the tree. "A nap is a good way to start. This way we can begin fresh."

Aidan felt no real need to reply as he bopped Grinch on the head playfully. He was so happy they'd had this talk today. A grin crossed his face as Grinch began rhyming again. He loved it when his Papa did that.
"I can't wait Papa...I can't wait." He padded over to the tree and curled up beneath it. In all this time together he had never liked sleeping in a tree. Anytime he tried he fell out somehow.
"A nap sounds great..." With that, his eyes closed and he drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
