Luckily for her, Celandine had no intention of going any further. Wading in water was one thing, but he didn't know if he would be able to swim if he found himself literally in over his head. And that was a situation he had no desire to be in.
Still looking slightly dazed, he looked quizzically over at Amadahy. "It's not......hurting, exactly. It just makes me feel....funny. Like I don't want to move anymore, or I can't move anymore." He let his eyes droop, and his head lowered until his nose went right into the water. His head shot back up and he coughed and sputtered as he fought to get the salt water out of his nose. "NOT cool!"
He sniffed really hard until his nose stopped stinging, then he quickly walked through the water to the shore, where as soon as he was clear of the ocean he shakily laid down in the sand, looking even more sheepish than before. "I...did try. I did. I just didn't want you to think I was boring or anything, not being able to swim with you."

Amadahy swam about him worriedly until he finally left the water. Hopping out to go find some firewood so he could maybe have something to sit by to dry himself without exhausting his power, she almost scolded him.
"You are not boring," she said with a warm yet slightly dry, as she was now out of the water, voice, "You are a normal Namir, it is not your fault that I am an aquatic who is bound to the water, you shouldn't be expected to have to swim in order to not be boring."
She piled the dryest of the wood she could find in front of Celandine before slinking back into the water to sigh happily at the moist warmth.
"I do not think you are boring, anyways," she said, quickly losing her note of dryness, "You can blow fire and make the water warm, and I'm sure you have a lot of other interesting things you can do besides swimming, too."

Celandine blushed until his face turned red-orange. So much for seeming tough; now he was being scolded like a naughty child. And maybe he was; he was certain that if his mother had seen him, she would have had herself one of those coniption fits and dragged him off by his ear to be put in bed and fed soup. He blew a short, breathless plume to light the firewood, and purred a little as he felt the ensuing warmth gently being the life back into him. "Thanks for the wood. And I suppose I could, but I wanted to do something that we could both do, you know? Fire's sort of my thing; I don't really know of anything else I'm really good at."

Amadahy sighed, laying back in the water to let her ears feel the warmth from it as well. "Your welcome," she replied, sinking back under the water and then poking her head out of it again when she felt it was as warm as the rest of her, "And water's sort of my thing, insteading of both of us jumping into the exact opposite of what we can do, maybe we should try to find something in the middle?"
She didn't think it was a bad idea, though she knew it meant she would have to leave her water. Maybe he could get used to the dry and cold her if he really wanted to learn that much more about her. That wasn't one of her better ideas, and she discarded it almost immediately, trying to think of something else. Was there someway she could bring the water with her? Or the warmth? Maybe a really warm wet towel, though her excursions would be limited.
She bit back a sigh and played at making currents in the water with her hands, trying to come up with an idea that might work.

"Something in the middle......" Celandine pondered that as he let the warmth seep into him and dry him off. He seemed to see the steam as the water quailed under the fire's heat. "Hmm......you know, steam's water yet it's hot and not as all over the place as water is. Maybe we should find a steamy place. Then you can keep warm and moist and I can be warm and not all weak and stuff."
It still seemed a little on the lame side, and he made a face at himself. There had to be more than that, especially if steam was nowhere to be found close to where they were. Surely there was something else that they could do together, but his brain seemed to be jammed. C'mon stupid, the little voice in his said, think! If you want her to keep hanging with you, think! He drew little circles in the sand as he pondered, mumbling to himself to help the thoughts move about and stay focused. "Hmm, steam, warm water, someplace, desert's too dry, jungle maybe? But how would we get there in time....."

"What about a hot spring?" she asked, wondering where they would be in Namiah, "There would be a lot of steam and warmth and if I got too dried out I could just hop in and back out." In truth she had kind of been hoping to find one since she suddenly 'arrived' in Namiah, but hadn't been willing to venture so fully out of the water close at hand to go in search of one.
An idea sprang into her head, "As far as travelling is concerned... Could we find a river traveling inland?" Though they'd again be limited by the direction and length of the river. She twitched one of her webbed ears; it was better than doing nothing she supposed.

Celandine smiled and nodded his head. "That's a swell idea; I mean, a great idea, yeah. There's got to be at least one big river emptying into the sea; let's go along the shore until we find it." He kicked sand onto the fire until it went out, stomped all over it just to be sure, and began to walk to the right, along the shoreline.
"Hot springs are pretty neat, but I do fear of getting burned sometimes; you know, since volcanoes supposedly fuel them. But I think you'd be able to know which ones were dangerous. And I could stay there close by and take in the steam. You know steam's supposed to be good for your skin? Cleans it or something. Kinda weird, since I thought you needed soap for that; maybe steam cleans something soap can't get." He stopped suddenly and blushed red-orange. "Sorry; I didn't mean to babble on like that." sweatdrop

She waited until he had put out the fire before following the direction Celandine had chosen and padding through the shallows to keep pace with him. Swimming was an option, she supposed, but then she would have to keep circling back.
"I do not think it was babbling," she said, tilting her head to the side, "I know volcanoes fuel the hot springs, but I didn't know about the other things." Now it was her turn to feel a light shade of pink creeping into her face, though hers was more from realizing that as the water Namir she shouldn't be the ignorant one in the current situation, "I just know that they're warm."
Deciding she did not like to be ignorant, she twitched an ear and prompted for him to continue speaking, "What is soap? Why would you need it?" Since she was usually in the water she didn't have to worry about cleaning herself, and since her kind usually stayed hidden in the water and away from the other Namrah she didn't really know about the concept of 'soap'.

Celandine turned to look at Amadahy with mild surprise, until it occured to him that a water namir probably had no use for soap; she'd probably be the cleanest namir in the entire realm without trying. "Well, I don't know what it's made of, exactly, but it's stuff that you can mix with water and makes lots of bubbles, and it gets dirt off really well. Sometimes it can even leave you smelling good. We need it because if we get too dirty, we start to smell bad, and I hear you can even get sick in some cases from being too dirty." Now that he thought about it, that sounded an awful lot like something a mother would make up to scare her dirty kids, just so they'd stay clean and she wouldn't have to bathe them everyday.
"Well, I'm glad you don't mind my carrying on. Usually I'm not so chatty, but for some reason, you really make me want to talk a whole lot. Which is funny, because half the time when I do talk a lot like this, it seems to come out all wrong or sounding funny. Has that ever happened to you?" As he asked the question, he looked ahead and noticed a large shimmering line going from the shore to the sea. A LARGE shimmering line. "Hey, that looks like a river up ahead! Now we can start heading inland!"

Amadahy wrinkled her nose, glad that her kind didn't really have to worry about smelling bad. Soap did sound a little interesting to use, though. At least the bubble part sounded interesting; she often liked to lounge in the waves when the surf became foamy. Not that it usually did that in warm water, though.
"I don't usually talk much," she said, "My kind usually lives in the deeper water where it is colder; and while my brethren are able to regulate their body temperature I cannot, and it affects my personality." Shaking her head, she tried to change the subject only to hear him spy the river. She looked up to watch the wavering water stretch away into the island and nodded, "I guess we can."

"Okay!" Celandine said happily as he turned and with a swish of his tails, turned toward the direction the water was flowing from. He was glad to see that it was a pretty big river, and definitely looking deep enough for Amadahy to follow him without having to get out and walk. He found himself wondering about what Amadahy had said, about her brethren and regulating body temperature. He wanted to ask her why she was unable to, but he thought that it would probably be a touchy subject; he knew HE didn't like being pressed about what he couldn't do that others could.
He kept his pace a little slow, thinking that with the current running against her, his friend might tire quickly or at the very least not be able to move as fast. As they reached the trees, Celandine turned toward Amadahy and asked, "Is the current okay? Am I going too fast? Or too slow? Just let me know if I need to slow down or speed up, okay?"

The river was nice and wide and deep, which gave it a slower current and allowed her to stick to the shore and the surface of the water to avoid any major disturbancies that might slow her pace.
"The current's perfect, and the speed is fine," she said, slipping back into the water after they had passed the delta where the river actually met with the ocean. Actually, again she could go faster, but since there were no waves for her to fight to keep a constant distance from the shore she saw no need to have to continue to circle back as she would have had to do before. Besides, if she kept getting ahead of Celandine she wouldn't really be able to hear him talk. Which she found herself rather enjoying the more she was able to converse.

After first making sure that Amadahy was able to keep up a good pace, Celandine trotted along beside the river at an easy pace, making sure that he kept an eye out for any brush that he could accidentally bump against while looking at Amadahy and end up looking like a total doofus. "So, how many hot springs have you been in? Are some hotter than others. I've heard of a few having natural minerals and things in the water that actually help cleanse you and be good for you; do you know anything about those kind of springs, or was someone just pulling my leg, d'you think?" He could have sworn he had heard about such springs before, and couldn't help but wonder if any of the health benefits of such springs could be gleaned from the air also.

"I've never actually been in a hot spring before," she replied, still matching his pace, "There were a few heat vents underneath the ocean, but they usually didn't last for long, so I kept having to search to find more." It would be nice for her to have a continuous heated water scource to escape to in the winter months. "I haven't heard anything about minerals in hot springs, but there were a lot of minerals whenever the heat vents appeared, so I think there probably will be."

"Oh I hope it's true; I would love to feel better with minerals and not have to go into water to get them." Celandine chuckled a little at his own silly wish. It was hard to be so weak against water, but he couldn't help it; anything bigger than a good drink's worth and he was through. Perhaps if he found a way to absorb the minerals from the water, he could develop some sort of tolerance to the water they came from. Well, either way, any amount of water was worth spending time in Amadahy's company. He noticed the going was becoming steeper, and the river was becoming laced with rocks and small waterfalls. He bounded up to the top of one of the falls, an easy lope for him, but he wondered about his friend as he turned around. "Can you manage to walk out of water for as long as it takes to get up here?"
