Maura looked over to Nightwing and maneuvered so that she could reach out one hand to touch his. "I'd like that," she replied, smiling softly. She liked being around Nightwing. Talking to him was something she was beginning to enjoy more and more. She saw him as amusing and sweet with her, though she imagine that most other females he was probably flirty. It made her feel a little special, if that was the case. He seemed to be showing a good bit of restraint and she respected that. "I'm glad. I prefer times of peace over... the otherwise."

Nightwing smiled as her hand touched his, his fingers brushed with hers their claws gently grazing one another's palms as he kept beside her. The winds were favorable for gliding this evening and he managed easily. Where he might have shown off a few foolish but stunning arial stunts for other females, he felt no need to with Maura. She would probably scold him for showing off in the first place, especially as they were on patrol.
His eyes scanned carefully over the land before slowly moving sideways to watch the female beside him. "I agree, times of peace are preferable. Still it's worth fighting for our home and clan when it can't be helped."

Maura's attention was drawn back to the land below them, missing Nightwing's watching her. Nothing to see, no problems in her area, so she veered away, slowly falling in altitude as she headed towards another little place she enjoyed. She just hoped no one was there.
Thankfully, her hopes were fulfilled. It was a small section of the lake, a little cove created by a number of rocks. The water was clean and clear and tiny silver fish wiggled about in the circle of water. She landed on the shore and carefully hopped out "into" the lake, one rock after another, a smile on her face. She crouched down to take a drink of water and then sat down, dangling her feet in the cool liquid before looking over her shoulder to see where Nightwing was.

Nightwing's eyes narrowed on the water below and he watched as Maura landed and skipped out onto the rocks. With a grin he dove down his blue gaze focused on a silvery swimming fish below. His wings flapped back and streamlined against his back allowing him to dive right into the water. Quickly he grabbed the fish before it could dart away from him, his tail acted as a rudder in the water. With a grin he swam back up. He popped out of the water and moved to climb onto one of the rocks near Maura.
"Hungry?" He chuckled and held out the fish while sweeping with wet hair back with his claws. His wings spread and flapped off the excess water as he let his tail whip out leaving him moist instead of sopping.

Maura watched him dive and pop back up, giggling while he did so. He kind of reminded her of a.. well, a swan, though she'd only seen one do that once. They weren't really night birds, after all. "No thank you, but that was quite impressive, nonetheless," she replied, grinning in good-humor and wiggling her toes a bit in the water.
She leaned forward a bit, resting her arms on her thighs as she kicked her feet back and forth. "What do you like to do, Nightwing? I mean all we've really done are things I usually do," she asked and turned a bit, looking at him with a soft smile.

He started to strip the scales from the fish with his claws carefully keeping his eyes on the task at hand lest he end up staring at her. He thought about her question a moment trying not to think about his usual nightly activities. After all what was he supposed to say? He liked to hang around females and flirt? Somehow that didn't sound as fun as it usually would.
"Well...I like to watch the humans, and talk to them. I know some of the clan thinks that their savage, but they really have the most interesting habits and customs. I learn all kinds of interesting things from humans all the time. Their the ones who got us to start using names after all, though I know some of the clan doesn't like it. They think we should remain brothers and sisters, none of the naming that humans are so fond of." He shrugged and sliced away a piece of fish for himself avoiding the bones.

"I agree with you. The only other person I really think... thought of as a friend was a human. He gave me my name and taught me things when I was little," Maura replied with a nod. She didn't mind the name, was honored that he had given something so special to him as that name to her.
"And humans are no more savage than we are. Their hearts just aren't always in as right a place as they think they are," she added with a bit of a shrug. Truth be told, she didn't really like fish, not at all, but she didn't really mind the smell of it so much this time. Perhaps it was because she didn't want to drive Nightwing away and thus was ignoring it.

Nightwing was unlike most of the clan in that while they shared a liking for the humans style of cooked food and even vegetables he remained preferring the raw spoils of a good hunt. He disliked the way the meat lost it's bloody flavor once it had been roasted and seasoned. He disliked the wine that humans drank preferring the cool fresh water of a stream. Still he could understand Maura not wanting any raw fish, he couldn't help but like it every once in a while.
He quickly finished the bits he could get away from the bone and scales crushed what was left before throwing it to the bank to fertilize what grew there. He bent into the water and washed his hands clean of the scent. "Exactly, that isn't to say all humans are good, just like Gargoyles there seems to be some of the best and worst in both our species. I think it will be a long time before we can really learn to accept all the differences though. So many humans in the village fear us, those in the castle seem more open minded, but at times I wonder if their politeness isn't just a veil."

Maura smiled at how alike they were. It was nice. Even her closest rookery sister was as different as night and day in comparison to herself. "I know what you mean. Sometimes I get the feeling that the people of the castle just tolerate us because they need our help. Not that I mind, I'd protect them even if they hated me," she paused there, looking into the water and sighing. "I just wish they could see us as just another type of person. We can think and speak and feel, in both senses of the word. Only a few things divide us, things that really shouldn't matter," she finished and shrugged again. There wasn't much she could do to change things though she wished otherwise.

"You would think with how often were around they would have come to see how little there is about us to fear. We've done them no harm, if anything we should fear them, after all their kind have done terrible things to us in the harsh light of day." He frowned a bit and shuddered, always Nightwing slept a bit away from the rest of the clan. It wasn't so much out of any fear, simply that most nights he spent in his own company.
"Ah well, no point in dwelling on what we cannot change, it will be time that aids this rift." He shrugged and let his wings fold over his body now that he was properly dry from his little stunt.

Maura shivered at the thought of what could happen during the day and wrapped her wings around herself more tightly. "I don't even want to think about that. What kind of human could do such a... a horrible... terrible..." She stopped there, hugging herself a bit and closing her eyes. It was a terribly thing to think about, of WHY gargoyles needed to be protected during the day by loyal humans. It made her want to hide away from it all.

Nightwing gently placed his hand against her shoulder and moved closer to lightly fold a wing over her back. "Don't worry...things like that...they can't keep happening." He didn't sound so certain himself but he didn't want her so distressed.
"Here we're at peace with the humans, and the clan is safe up in the cliffs." He nodded reassuringly.

Maura's eyes slowly reopened and she nodded a bit. He was right, after all. Here, now, they were safe. And they'd be ready for a time when things weren't so safe anymore. Of that, she was certain. "You're right. Thanks Nightwing," she said and stood, slipping our from under him. Her feet were a little cold, but that was understandable. She looked up at the sky and sighed. Another night gone by. "We should head back. Dawn's coming and there's no place around here to take off from."

His head turned towards the sky and his wings moved back around his shoulders away from her. "It is getting late..." He nodded and scrambled onto the bank before offering her his hand. He knew that she could get across just fine on her own, but he still wanted to make the gesture.
"It's been a nice night though..." He smiled at her softly.

Maura took his helping hand, more out of accepting the offer than actually needing it, matching his smile as she did so. "It has. I'm grateful that you came with me on my rounds tonight. Would you like to meet tomorrow night, at the glade? Perhaps we can explore the forest or you could show me some of your favorite places... That is, if you want to," she posed the statement more as a question, her head tilting a bit to one side as they started walking back towards the mountains.
