He looked down and felt his body warming despite the regular temperature of the night. "I'm sorry, I'm really not accustomed to just chatting with females..." He looked away feeling suddenly embarrassed. He wasn't used to talking at all, his weakness with females lay in a different activity. He felt suddenly very foolish for even thinking such things and pushed the thoughts away forcefully.
With a deep breath he managed to look back at Maura "I hope I haven't offended"

"What are you accustomed to, then?" Maura asked, chuckling a little bit. She wasn't naive, more just teasing and a tiny bit curious over what he would say in return. "Oh, don't worry. It takes a lot to offend me, I think. I've never really felt offended before, though I'm not sure if it's myself or the actions of others. So don't worry," she assured him, leaning back a bit, using an arm to prop herself up. Before she did so, however, she carefully laid the bundle of flowers in her lap, placing her other hand on top of the thin stems.

Nightwing felt his face heat as if he were gliding over the mouth of a great volcano, or standing beside the blacksmiths forge. Had she really asked him that? Why did she have to ask that of all things? He considered lying, but really what lie would sound any better or even more believable then the truth. Besides it wasn't in his nature to be secretive, he was open warrior and lover, just a tad shy, but not an outright liar or sneak.
"Well...uhh...normally I, I seek out females for company. Not! I mean not just! I just usually spend the night with them and we...they." He gulped in a bit of the fresh scented air and looked at her nervously. "That is to say for mutual pleasure...and enjoyment..." He turned his gaze to the sky suddenly feeling very trapped.
"But...this..this is better..." His own words startled him for a moment. Was this better? Perhaps in some ways yes, there was a different kind of pleasure, a different kind of release. He enjoyed this casual talk with her, enjoyed knowing that there would be no other expectations, and no one being left in the early hours before sunrise.

Maura's cheeks colored a bit at his honesty, but she nodded in understanding. "I imagine it would be better. A break from monotony and no doubt something a little more lasting, hmm?" she speculated, gesturing a bit with the hand in her lap before replacing it. Her eyes flicked downward and she laughed a bit, the kind of laugh one used when they were disappointed in themselves, though hers was more laughing at the irony. "I usually spend time on my own. Too many voices in one place gives me headaches. I'd rather be alone than near the clan when everyone's awake. Sometimes I'll help with the young ones, but usually on one-on-one terms," she explained with a small shrug. It was just her way. Oh, she would die if she were without the clan, but she liked them more as the background of her life, the hidden supports, rather than the... Rather than always in her presence.

He nodded softly at her words, she understood what he hadn't had the words to explain properly. Her laugh made him stare at her openly for a moment her downward gaze made him wonder. He brushed the thoughts away again and gave another nod, the horns from his face brushing his collarbone.
"I understand, I normally only group up with the rest of the clan for meetings, it's no wonder I hadn't seen you around. I'm glad we've met though...I should try and talk more." He glanced at her uncertain if she would agree. Perhaps she didn't want to see him again, perhaps she enjoyed her solitude.

Maura nodded and tilted her head a bit to one side, smiling. "I'd like that, actually. It's nice to talk to someone again," she replied smoothly, her smile changing in a way that made her eyes close a bit. She found his consistent shyness cute, in a way. But that together with the mop of hair and you had quite an endearing fellow, if you forgot about the forced charm. But he hadn't really done that much, so, well, she didn't have much to say she didn't like about him. It'd be nice to have a friend again, she couldn't help thinking. Her last one had been gone for some time. Nightwing was certainly no replacement, however... She liked him and his company, and that's what counted.

Nightwing smiled and held his hand out "Friends? The humans...they clasp arms to show friendship..." He lightly touched her hand uncertain if she was in agreement with the idea.
He was half tempted to try and kiss her, but decided against it, he couldn't let his hormones get the best of him after all. Besides Maura was going to be different, she was going to be a friend, and he wouldn't want to do anything to spoil that.

"I know, I've seen it a few times," Maura replied and touched his hand. Though, instead of clasping it like one normally did when humans shook hands, she simply placed her hand on top of his, palm to palm. She knew it wasn't what he had been referring to, or at least she thought that wasn't what he had been expecting. She simply smiled at him, her fingertips touching his wrist. His hand was so much bigger than hers and the difference intrigued her.

He smiled and stared at their hands for a long moment liking the contrast in their size, color, and temperment. Despite it they were going to be friends, the idea was a comforting one. He slowly brushed his fingers with hers and turned to go his wings spreading.
"I hope to see you again soon here Maura..." He smiled back at her before climbing up one of the old trees and using it to launch himself into the air and catch a current that led him away.
