Harmoniae nodded and wrapped her tail around Kamia. "If you need help, just lean on me. We'll get out of here, don't worry, it's not far. It gets narrow at some point, though, so I may have to go in front of you." Harmoniae tried not to think of the places where the sides of the ravine scraped against her body. She's skinnier than I am, she'll be fine. Instead, Harmoniae tried to think of all the things she would say to Spruce for leaving Kamia alone. Idiot! What if she had been in trouble? Besides, she probably didn't appreciate being left all by herself...what a moron...

"O-okay," Kamia stammered, taking a step hesitently. Pain shot through her side, and a small moan escaped her. Kamia didn't call any attention to it though. She simply kept walking, mostly supported by Harmoniae, and made her way down the length of the gorge...

Harmoniae breathed a sigh of relief as they made their way down the gorge. Kamia was in intense pain--desperately, she wished she could help her new-found friend. I'm no healer...but I think she should lay down, rest for a few days...Spruce and I can hunt for the three of us. And once she's better...who knows? "So, do you live around here?" she asked.
Spruce brought the rabbit back to the lip of the gorge proudly, trying not to drool at the scent of the freshly caught prey. He hadn't eaten much over the past few days, and the rabbit was tempting him. "No," he mumbled through the flesh, "it's for Kamia. Got to keep her strength up." He dropped it on the edge. "I'm back Ka--" He stopped and stared into the empty ravine somewhat stupidly.

"I-" Kamia gasped as the pain sharpened suddenly, then continued in a rush, "I suppose... I mostly just roam, but I'm pretty familiar with this area. It was a stupid mistake to fall into this dumb gorge... What about you and- and Spruce?"

Harmoniae shuddered, wishing desperately she knew how to deal with a broken pair of ribs. "Oh, we live a ways away. Around a two week journey or so. It's okay, Kamia. We've found a cave to stay in that can fit the three of us with some room for your side. I'm afraid I know nothing of herbs or I'd find you something for the pain..."

"O-Oh, that's not necessary," Kamia looked down self-consciously, "you don't have to do that for me. I'll be fine as soon as I get out of this gorge... I don't want to be a burden to you..."
The truth was, Kamia would probably be more comfortable on her own... She might not be able to hunt with her side injured the way it was, but at least she wouldn't feel so self-conscious...
But wait... Why was Kamia starting to wonder if it might be... okay to stay with these other dragons?

Harmoniae shook her head firmly. "Even if you were the enemy of our pack, you're injured, Kamia. We should take care of you. It would be no burden at all. I wish I knew what to do for broken ribs...you must be in a lot of pain. I can't even imagine it." Briskly she changed the subject. "We're at the end of the gorge," she said softly.
It didn't take that long for Spruce to come to the obvious conclusion that Kamia and Harmoniae had left the area. With a sigh, he bent his head to the ground, his jaws clenched around the rabbit once more. He picked up his cousin's scent and began to follow it down the gorge, listening carefully and picking up the pace.

Kamia sighed in relief, but midway it turned into another gasp of pain. "Thank goodness," she quickly covered. She glanced sideways at Harmoniae curiously. Would she and her brother really be willing to take Kamia in for a while? No! Why was she even considering this?! She hated being around other dragons... But maybe... They didn't mind hanging around Kamia as much as she'd thought...

Harmoniae led Kamia to the end of the canyon and sat down, watching her new-found friend. "Let's sit down here and rest for a minute," she murmured. "You were in that ravine for about half an hour. She glanced up at the sun. "And we got out of there not a moment too soon. It's almost sunset."
Spruce raced along, the rabbit swinging from his jaws. His cousin would maul him for sure, he knew it. Abandoning Kamia, thinking about his stomach--well, her stomach, but it was all the same to Harmoniae. He rounded the corner at a fast pace, panting as he skidded to a stop, the rabbit falling from his jaws to land at Kamia's feet neatly. "Sorry--" he began as he turned to Harmoniae.
Harmoniae interrupted him briskly. "Not nearly sorry enough! I told you to stay and keep a watch on her in case something happened, you blockhead!"

Kamia nodded thankfully as they stopped to rest. The thought of having to stay in that gorge... in the dark? Thank God Harmoniae and Spruce had come along.
Wait... Kamia was thanking God... that other dragons were around?
At that moment, Spruce ran up and deposited the rabbit on the ground. Kamia's eyes widened as the sharp words began to fly.
"N-No, that's alright... I was fine... You showed up right after he left... and he was only going to find me food, anyway," Kamia blushed furiously, looking down at the ground. Talking to other dragons normally was difficult for her. When conflict was taking place? Yowch.

Harmoniae sighed. "Sorry, Kamia," she muttered. "I overreacted. I do that a lot with Spruce." She cast her cousin a glare that said quite plainly that this wasn't over yet. Not by a long shot. If Kamia wasn't there, she'd give him a proper piece of her mind, with all the acid of contempt turned into a jelly to cover it. But it seemed that their friend didn't like conflict. So be it. She could chew him out later.
Spruce shrugged and smiled at Kamia. "I was lucky," he murmured. "That's why they call me Spruce the Luck!" He waited for Harmoniae to make the quip about his real name being Spruceflower, but it didn't come. She was preoccupied, that much was plain. Oh well. "Let's find some shelter," he suggested. "It'll get cold soon, with the sun going down...eat the rabbit, Kamia, you need your strength."

Kamia nodded and obeyed silently, peering at the other dragons as she ate. She felt a bit guilty about not sharing... but she was SO hungry... She hadn't eaten for quite a while... Oh no. What if they thought she was a pig? What if they thought she would eat all their food? What if they regretted helping her out of the gorge?! Kamia REALLY didn't want to be a burden...
"Well... I think I'll be okay now, if you guys need to move on," she said quietly. To her surprise, her heart sunk at the thought of them leaving. Did she really want them to stick around? Would she really be alright with other dragons around?
Would she really be alright without them?

"No way," Spruce said flatly. "You're injured. You'll have some trouble hunting. We're not going to let you leave if you can't take care of yourself. After all, what are friends for?" He knew as he said it that his voice was harsher than usual. But the thought of leaving Kamia...Unthinkable. Besides. I feel affection for her. Some dragons might deny that, might be confused. But Spruce didn't think like that. He was a romantic at heart, and the idea of finding love like this was too precious, too perfect to reject it just because he was surprised. And I do love her--or at least I'm crushing on her.

Kamia lowered her head, blushing slightly at Spruce's words. Of course they didn't want her to leave. They were her friends, weren't they?
Friends... She wasn't sure that she'd ever had friends before...
"Okay," she nodded shyly. Then she looked up, beaming, and said with more conviction. "Okay!"
She looked up at the sky, a faint smile remaining on her lips. "Well then, we should probably find somewhere to spend the night, huh?"

Harmoniae nodded. "Yes, let's. There's a small cave about a mile from here that we've been living in. It's small but cozy, it could probably support the three of us." She frowned. "Do you think you can make it that far, though? Kamia, you're pretty badly hurt. I don't want you to strain yourself."
Spruce shook his head. "We haven't got a choice, Harmoniae. It's too exposed out here to sleep here. We can rest back at the cave, maybe hunt a little on the way. I'm hungry myself." He turned to smile at Kamia.
"All right, fine. You two go ahead. I'm going to bury the remains of the rabbit. I'll catch up." Harmoniae began to dig a small hole in the ground, scraping earth over the bones and fur of the small prey.
