Behind his glasses Ethan's steel grey eyes crinkled as he smiled in thanks. "Thank you Alex. If I should ever need some advise I won't hesitate to call." He responded, taking the card and placing it neatly on the coffee table where he wouldn't forget about it. He mulled over what else he might need to ask, but now that the rose frei was floating serenely around his home all worries and concerned questions that had been springing to mind in the lead up to the drop off seemed to have slipped away and he quite simply couldn't recall them, it was a good job Alex had given her his number - if the questions resurfaced he could contact her easily now.
He did however, have something else that he wished to do. His hand reached to his trouser pocket and he retreived something from it. As he did so he nodded his head towards Vyn, who was by the window talking to Zul. "Am I right in thinking that Vyn likes her music?" He queried, revealing the slim back music player sitting in his palm. It was meant as a welcoming gift, something to show the Raevan that if she wanted anything he was prepared to dig into his wallet and provide it.
Considering the question posed amber eyes examined the view that Zul had been admiring. Indeed, it was quite impressive - overlooking Gambino's sandy beaches, but the sea looked cold, with white waves breaking on the almost metallic blue surface. Nothing really drew her to the beach, she was much more content being here inside (despite this too being an alien environment) and thus she shook her head.
"It's too cold." She replied, before turning to Zul a curiousity in her eyes. "You're also cold, but hot too..?" She stated, recalling what she'd felt earlier when he'd held her hand in the car.

The smile was returned, Alex nodding her acknowledgement. "I do what I can, for all of them," she replied lightly, indicating Raevan and Guardian alike. She knew well that the world a Guardian was plunged into was unlike anything anyone could have fathomed. The Italian could recall the first day she laid eyes on the Raevans, her shock and awe, and how her desire to know more always ended up with her running into them or their care-takers. And now...she was amongst them. She couldn't be prouder of the honor bestowed, and would do everything she could to ensure that no one was left with unanswered questions, for the sake of the Guardian and the well-being of their charge.
The woman inched forward on the couch as Ethan dug something out of his pocket, curious green eyes flicking over the sleek black music player. Her expression brightened immediately, slender brows raising into her side-swept bangs, grinning and nodding enthusiastically. "So I've documented," she replied quietly, although excitement tinged her voice. "She responds well to music and seems to favor more foreign types - Jay Rock, I think it's called? Japanese performers." She paused. "I wonder if Vyn understands Japanese..."
Zul tilted his head again in consideration, nodding his understanding. Well. It was less of an understanding and more of a humoring motion; the Raevan himself knew precious little about hot and cold, other than from the reactions of those around him and his own innate magic. "I am both," he confirmed, "and neither."
He held his hand out to her, the blue lines of his glove pulsing brightly; something akin to frost crystallized in his palm, even his skin paling a bit under the condensation there. "Cold," he stated softly, "but hot." The ice melted into wetness, and then evaporated completely as bright ember lit his digits. "I try to be warm. People like that best." The heat disappeared, holding his hand out just a little more to indicate she should take it and see for herself - he had excellent control for minor shows, but anything greater might have been troublesome.
"You like warm then?" he offered up, finding that a little interesting. Didn't his woman mention something about shadows? "It is filling," he commented at length, "but so is cold, to me. I like them both."

The older man's face broke into a contented smile as Alex confirmed that Vyn was fond of music.. Although this Jay Rock was a mystery to him and he made a slight mental note to research it later on that night so he could upload some of her favourite tracks on the gift before giving it to her - it would be a pleasant surprise that hopefully she would appreciate. At Alex's pondering about Vyn knowing Japanese Ethan couldn't help but wink cheerfully and tap the card she had given to him.. "Well, I can find out and tell you. Or perhaps inform Kyou in a report." After this little joke he slipped the music player back into his pocket. "I'll give it to her later.. When she has settled in more." He informed, turning his head to glance again at the pair of conversing torsos.
Zul's display of powers intrigued Vyn and she was enthralled by the icy crystals that formed on his palm; she was equally amazed when they hisses as his harm warmed up, sizzling into steam. She almost wondered if she had any skill like that, but the thought slipped out of her head when he offered her his hand. She frowned slightly, after that little show she wasn't comfortable with how safe his palms would be - she certainly didn't want to end up with a frozen/seared hand. None the less she tentatively gave her hand, not wishing to be rude and doubting his control.
Sure enough, his flesh was warm to the touch through his gloves. Nodding at this she let go, the act of holding hands was uncomfortable to her... Despite his good intentions and interesting skill. "Yes, warm and dark.. That's what I am fond of.."
Ethan saw this small display of power, the tiny trails of steam drifting from Zul's palm and raised a bemused brow as Vyn touched his hand afterwards, he did not demand an explanation but was quietly impressed by how extraordinary raevans were. Turning back to Alex he asked, "Is there anything else I should know that springs to mind?"

A delighted bit of laughter escaped the woman at the wink and the tap on her card. Yes, she had no doubts in her mind that Ethan was perfect for the job! "I'd appreciate it," she replied with a warm smile, nodding at the rest. "That'd be a good idea. I know she's a bit uncertain but I know she'll warm up with you. She's grown so long in the shadows, it'll be nice to see the sun on her this time."
Vivid green eyes flicked over to the dark femme, just in time to catch Zul's little display. The woman groaned inwardly at the little show off, shaking her head and giving Ethan an apologetic smile. She was certain the older man would understand that kids are just kids - and in this case, Zul was the child between the two. "No, nothing I can think of, I think you're good," she replied at length, rubbing her forefinger over her lips in thought.
"Warm and dark," he repeated curiously, glancing towards his woman. He'd have to ask her about this Raevan, for such shadows were not any he had felt before. Maybe that's how they tasted? His brilliant blue gaze returned to Vyn, giving her a polite smile, "You are dark, but I don't know if you're warm." It may not have been the right thing to say, but he was still learning the niceties of manners and the ilk.
Absently rubbing his hands together, he looked over her crown of thorns and black-sclera'd eyes, tilting his head to the side. "What do you do?" he asked with genuine intruige. Zul knew by now that not all Raevans had the same powers, and certainly none quite had his exact ones, but what would she have? Could flowers grow under her care? Would shadows lengthen and twist beneath her influence? The demonic Frei surprised himself a little with such thoughts, as he'd never really considered anyone outside of himself before. The surprise was obvious on his face, although it was quickly replaced by his full smile, giving Vyn his attention.
"No," Alex repeated, "I think we have it covered. And if not, I have your number on file. I'll only use it if I think it's of importance, naturally." She certainly didn't want the man thinking she'd be calling him for every minor idea and thought! She had faith that Ethan could handle anything that came up, and if not, she wasn't that far away after all.

What could she do?? Vyn frowned slightly. She couldn't do anything on demand, unlike the Zul's power... She thought carefully on the matter, the way that Zul had intoned it made it sound as if he half expected her to be able to do something. Thinking, she moved a refined finger up to be placed delicately on her lips.
She could eat shadows. Was that a power? Probably not, since nothing really happened to anything, except how she felt in the hunger department. Although, perhaps shadows did become a little more... animated, when she was around... Now that she was thinking about it, there had been a time when she'd done something that could be considered a 'power' like Zul's melting and freezing. She'd made thorny tendrils appear when Shuura had grabbed her; they'd been made out of shadows and the barbs had drawn blood from the woman's arm.
However, the thorns materialised from shadows hadn't lasted for very long before dissipating, and the shame of hurting her guardian had meant that a second try hadn't been attempted. The memory had pretty much slipped from the rose frei's mind. It had been instinctive, if Vyn remembered correctly, like a defensive shudder; not like the relatively precise and controlled skill Zul had just exhibited.
Deciding to save her breath, alongside not wanting to share the fuzzy memory with him, Vyn answered with a simple, "no."
Content that everything that needed to be dealt with had been dealt with, Ethan's smiled grew yet again. "If that's the case, then I won't keep you much longer." The older man looked yet again at his new charge. Yes, his new raevan child. It was stunning to think he was going to become a parent at fifty five with no wife or love interest. What would his business partners say? Hopefully they'd be just as enthralled with the delicate shadow as he was.. "It's been a pleasure meeting you Alex. You've made me a very happy man. I promise to look after her as if she was my own flesh and blood."

Brilliant eyes burned quietly as she thought, watching her. She was such a delicate thing, a pale and fragile beauty in comparison to the likes of LuLu and Xiu. Still, there was an undeniable beauty about the rose Frei, something that quieted the demonic male into admiration. Withdrawn, perhaps aloof and unfriendly, but it didn't lessen her appeal.
"You're beautiful," he informed the older Raevan, rolling his bare shoulders in a shrug, the rings on his wings clicking with the motion, "that is enough. You will find it, someday." Zul offered her a small but warm smile, the last of comforts he could expend. He didn't really know what else could be done, having never had to try, and he'd done all he could without being destructive. The fleshy ribbon crinkled as he gave her a short bow, glancing over to his woman as she stood.
Alex smoothed her tank top in an old habit, smiling at Ethan and laughing a little at his kind words. "Oh come on now, it's not like this was all my decision," she waved one hand, cheeks flushing just a little, "but I'm really happy to hear that, Ethan. You have no idea how comforting that is to know." Her expressioned softened into understanding - she often felt the same with Zul, quirks and all - and to know that this man would take care of the rose Frei did her heart wonders.
"Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, you can call me or anyone at the Lab. I live just off the coast west of here, so it's no trouble to come into town as needed." Bright green eyes turned to Zul, curling her tanned fingers at him. "C'mon Zul, lets let Vyn settle in, okay?"
Blue eyes returned to Vyn. "Be well," he offered softly, keeping his hands to himself this time, turning with another charming smile and a flick of boney wing to float to his Guardian.

The unexpected compliment took Vyn be surprise. The by thought she was beautiful? Her ribbon rippled slightly in her confusion. No one had really called her beautiful before. Once there had been a fat man who had seemed to find her attractive but Shuura had got her away from him as quick as possible, calling him a a 'pervert'. But somehow Vyn knew that this was not quite the same situation. Still baffled she replied with a standard, "thanks." Luckily before the boy could spout any further baffling compliments Alex summoned Zul to her side - they were leaving? Once more the feeling that butterflies were tickling her rune swamped Vyn. This was it. The start of her new life. She stayed where she was, floating in the background as Ethan said his goodbyes to the demonic frei and his guardian.
"Safe journey to the both of you." Ethan said to them, before turning to Zul a gleam behind his specs. He gripped the youth's hand and shook it firmly. Good to see you again. Take care of Alex. He smirked, flashing a wink at the boy before opening the door for them to leave. His own stomach was doing the same thing as Vyn's churning with nervous excitement. A whole new chapter of his life was going to begin. The chapter in which he'd become a father.
