Hmm, I am pondering on where I sit on this one...one the one hand, I really love the idea of a whole site dedicated to being an art collector (not understood by a lot of my friends I can tell you) and having a little place just for that. :3 And the idea of having featured characters in our profile, places to put our commissions that people can so easily see...<3...
But on the other hand I know I am notoriously bad at checking even here, a whole new site I might be even worse. It really depends how active the site would be.
But then...it would open us up to a whole new group of people who don't use Gaia but who love to collect. ^^

I do find I am better at checking sites rather than the guilds on here. But thats me. =x
Yeah, there is no group like this that I could find, we should jump up and be the first one!... well maybe the only one... BUT STILL! xDDDDDD
I've been feeling horendious this month, but I finally figured it out. Wasn't having enough food in the morning to ballance these insainly powerful pills I am on. I dont know what I was thinking. X_X
Figured it out yesterday so hopefully I can hop on things now. =]
If anyone has any suggestions on who to have do the site let me know!

I think it's a really interesting idea. Like Cartagia said, It'd be cool having a site dedicated around collecting art and neat to be able to have profiles with featured artwork, and as an artist the idea for the optional commission info and samples is great too.
I do like the idea of inviting artists. Especially if you're breaking away from Gaia, it would still help connect artists with art collectors. Other than art trades, I mostly use gaia gold to buy artsies so would we still be able to give each other heads up on deals, auctions, and stuff on gaia?
And would that mean the main guild would close down or become mostly inactive?? I tie my art collecting mostly to gaia so it's harder for me to separate the two, you know?

The new site wouldn't be gaia geared at all, but that doesn't mean it precludes art that is purchased from forum sites. This guild will remain here and remain what it is, including having a focus on gaia in general. The website will be different in many ways. Think of the guild as a jumping off point for the site.
There may be something in having this also be a place where artists and collectors can hook up. The host I have found, the one Chisa hath suggested, has unlimited space (with some boundaries of course). So space wouldn't be the issue. The problem is how do we keep that in check? Perhaps a system where members can nominate people who are not collectors to join would work. That way we can keep things in check.

I think it sounds like a pretty decent idea then. I'd be up for it. I'm a little interested now in where something like that would go.
Hmn. The nomination idea sounds good. Perhaps someone who wants to join but isn't a collector could fill out a special application to be considered? Then you can still evaluate their reason for joining or do a quick background check or whatever you want your standards to be.

I think closing it off is a very bad idea. What's the harm in letting non-collectors join, anyway? What's the worst they'll do - get bored and leave?
Providing hosting space for galleries and the like can be regulated, even makes sense to be, but I'm sure many collectors don't actually want/need that anyway -- I have my own gallery I host on my web space. I'm entirely pleased with it, and wouldn't want to bother myself re-uploading everything elsewhere.
It's nice for those who don't have their own galleries set up, but you don't need it to be something you give to every registrant. Users can request it, and when they do so, then you look into who they are, what they want it for, ETC.

@StarMasayume: *nodding*
It is moving along decently well. We have fundage and I have found a host. Now I just need to find a designer! I have one in mind but still need to talk to Audley about a few things. =0
@clocktock: Well, we are having applications for art collectors to join, much like we have here. To ensure their being seriously into the hobby etc. Not having that for the artists while having it for the collectors would be odd. But, none of this is set in stone yet so lets all discuss it. =]
Now, this wouldn't be a replacement for your characters full biography. It would be a small feature page with only a few images and then space for a link to their actual bio. That way other members can get a small preview and then explore further.

i am late on this bc i don't use gaia anymore at all (but i still log on to other forums). i think that this is a great move for ogawg and a great way to expand the club. take it away from gaia's image a little bc as much as i used to enjoy the site, i think a lot of us don't necessarily fit with the site's "target audience" and we leave the site/the club because of that. speaking for myself, i would be a lot more active on an external forum/site. i also like the idea because i think it will bring some small work to artists who might be struggling with the current state of the economy and have trouble or can't afford to really promote themselves.
kat, if there's anything i can do to help, drop me a note on DA. heart

Since I've been drifting farther and farther from Gaia, I'm very interested in this idea. I know I wanted to do something similar with another guild that's pretty precious to me, but unfortunately too few of the original members are around to make it worthwhile.
I hope this works out. :3

I think many of us are drifting away. xD I hope it works out too. =3 Sabin, Sam and I were talking in their contest thread, and this what we've come up with. We're just trying to figure out the best way to say it. Essentially the theme would be old timey. Sabin Cabinet of Curiousities is what they used to call essentially private collectors' museums ( Wiki article. There were several different arrangements of the words we threw back and forth, but I do believe this is the winner. The Cabinet of Curiosities An Order of Art AcquirersPlease let me know what you think and feel free to throw in something completely different. As far as a theme or header/title goes. Nothing is set in stone yet.
